Translations
editHi,
I notice that, unless I am missing something, the FDC portal is not translated at all. What about setting up the Translate extension on all the "static" pages − such as FDC portal/Community participation, in the hope it would help with the involvement of more community members?
What are your thoughts about it?
Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 22:50, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Personally I think it's a great idea. The only reason I would request not starting right away is that many of the pages are going to be updated and even moved, doing that after beginning translation work would be messy, I think. heather walls (talk) 23:00, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- +1 to the above! Thanks for commenting on this, Jean-Fred! KLove (WMF) (talk) 23:34, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
- Happy to see you like the idea!
- I suggested that because I thought pages like the one I linked to were fairly stable − if they are not, there is no problem in waiting of course. What sort of timeframe are we considering here?
- One thing though. When came the "pencils down" time two days ago, I posted on French-language Wikimedia mailing-lists to notify folks about all these proposals and their awesome projects, reminding them they were more than welcome to comment if they wish to. I do know that many of these folks have a limited command of English, and I always feel bad for pointing them to pages in English. Here, not only the proposals are in English (which is fair ; and they would be quite challenging to translate) but even the page explaining how one could get involved is in English… If I understand correctly, the community review period which started three days ago lasts for only 30 days, and translations do take time.
- Thanks for reading, Jean-Fred (talk) 20:03, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry to insist, but is there any news on that front? Jean-Fred (talk) 21:32, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Glad that you have insisted, it's good to be reminded :) if you are able to set up translations on FDC portal/Proposals/Community/Review that would be very helpful. Thank you. We will definitely let you know when other pages are stable enough, though it seems like the most relevant pages have not stopped changing. heather walls (talk) 19:49, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent, Done. And for good measure, French is done too :-) Thank you for following up on this Heather. Jean-Fred (talk) 23:19, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Mission goals
edit"6. The likely impact of fund-seeking entities' plans against the mission goals of the Wikimedia movement" - Are these "mission goals" actually the "strategic goals" named in the strategic plan for 2011-15, just the general mission ("to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content" etc) or something else completely? I tried to google "mission goals of the Wikimedia movement" but did not find any such. --89.219.142.38 23:52, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
