GLAM/GLAM pages revamp

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

GLAM pages revamp

The project brings together initiatives from across the Wikimedia GLAM community, including (but not limited to)

All existing work should find a good home within the project, either as collaboratively maintained key documents and resources, or as part of a broader knowledge base of existing resources.

Evolving project pages

We have created an initial draft for pages. They are a proposal and a work in progress, and everyone is invited to test and try them in practice and develop them collaboratively. We hope to progress rapidly and engage everyone to the extent they feel like. We plan to deploy principles that prioritize practical outcomes, negotiation, and response rather than completing the perfect idea of a project before execution.

Browse activities

  • by workflows / project types / typology

Add activities

into Metabase

  • To add new activities, a Cradle form should be used. The current Cradle needs update to work with Metabase, which is a cloud-based Wikibase (WMSE, WMDE responsibility)
  • We should include Wiki Loves projects although they might not consider them as GLAM

Directory of GLAM contacts

Listing of GLAM contacts in affiliates, WiRs, related groups. This information could live on Wikidata so that the information would be widely available and kept up-to-date. Contact persons may need to be saved on Metabase instead of Wikidata for privacy reasons.

Affiliate GLAM fact sheets / pages

A GLAM page for an affiliate could be included in the affiliate pages as well as linked from the directory. It could interlink all related information: GLAM contacts, past projects, partner pages.

Partners we have worked with

Listing of memory institutions with projects done with them. Stored in Wikidat and/or Metabase and linked to partner pages, whenever pages are available.

Partner fact sheets / pages

such as the WMB partner pages. Partner pages could be already existing ones or they could be created on GLAM Meta.

Priority learning resources

Maintain a curated set of resources (articles, videos, presentations etc.) that can be translated to several languages and kept up-to-date collaboratively.

  • Cover important workflows and topics for contributing to Wikimedia projects
  • Not only learning resources. Also advocacy or design resources and templates
  • Would we like to have a separate advocacy section? Susanna Γ…nΓ€s (Susannaanas) 🦜 04:23, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Further learning resources

Point to lists of other interesting materials. That could be stored in a variety of places: Zotero, wiki pages, Metabase.

Priority tools

Rather than listing all the dysfunctional tools in yet another list, the selection of tools on this page should be an agenda of prioritized resources for the GLAM-wiki community to focus efforts on in developing and monitoring their status.

Pages for each of these tools

There could be tool-specific pages with links to learning materials related to them.

Further tools

Further tools could also be introduced on the pages, or a link to the catalogs of tools could be provided.

Experimental marketplace of ideas, collaboration requests

This is a proposal to develop a collaborative space for developing projects together from ideas to actual proposals, projects, and eventually documentation based on the same input.

How to start collaborating with the Wikimedia movement for partners (and for ourselves)

By documenting who to contact in different cases or how to develop an idea into a project we will end up negotiating the current best practices.

Maybe this section can also inform about how to collaborate with specific external partners or tap into funding opportunities. It may also be its own section.

The system is complex, and replicating it needs to be thought of carefully. Is it maintainable if it is very complex? Should we simplify the structure or make further changes? Use a database? Use Diff?
