Luc Illusie is a French algebraic geometer, former student of Grothendieck. He established some of the key notions and techniques including “Illusie’s cotangent complex”, Illusie-Fontaine positive characteristic method for proving Hodge to de Rham spectral sequence degeneration, various results on formal schemes, logarithmic geometry, crystalline cohomology, arithmetic geometry and so on.
