Verdi havia trabalhado como um lutador de duplas na maioria de sua carreira, principalmente como parte dos The Backseat Boyz com Johnny Kashmere em várias promoções independentes na América, incluindo Combat Zone Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Unplugged e Ring of Honor.
