Mirandola (local dialect: La Miràndla) is a ceety an comune o Emilia-Romagna, Italy, in the Province o Modena, 31 km northeast o the provincial caipital bi railwey.

Mirandola oreeginatit as a Renaissance ceety-fortress. For fower centuries it wis the seat o a independent principality (first a coonty, then a duchy), a possession o the Pico faimily, whose maist ootstaundin member wis the polymath Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (1463-1494). It wis besiegit twa times: in 1510 an 1551.
It wis acquired bi the Duchy o Modena in 1710. The ceety stairtit tae decay efter the castle wis destroyed in 1714.
On 29 Mey 2012 a pouerful yirdquauk hit the Mirandola area. It killed at least 17 fowk an collapsed kirks an factories. An aw 200 wur injured. The 5.8 magnitude quauk left 14,000 fowk hameless.[2]
