Three centuries after the conclusion of the Great War, the Grand Uprising, or the Fourth Cybertronian War, was fought between the decrepit Builders of Cybertron—the former Autobots and Decepticons—and the Resistance: an alliance of Maximals and Predacons seeking to topple the stagnant oligarchy of their progenitors.

Beast Wars: Uprising

The Grand Uprising began in 2384 when Blackarachnia returned from Axiom Nexus to her home universe, seeking to travel to Earth. Crash-landing on the dystopian Cybertron of her birth, she went underground and began recruiting a group of like-minded dissidents who would overthrow the stagnant Builder order and their endless Games. In search of a suitable leader to spearhead the revolution, she found Lio Convoy, the Maximal Guardian of Order—Eject's stooge responsible for fixing the endless matches. Her words inspired a crisis of conscience in the Maximal, and after realizing that the caste-based society he upheld was corrupt beyond repair, Lio Convoy vowed to tear down the system and start anew.

Their movement soon coalesced into the Resistance, a group of disaffected Maximals and Predacons looking to topple the Builder oligarchy. The Resistance fired the first shots of the war during the opening ceremonies of the 1924th Game; Lio Convoy assassinated emcee Supersonic with an Angolmois Blaster, then publicly revealed his involvement in the crooked Games before revealing the energon matrix in his chest. The broadcast caused pandemonium across Cybertron; three-quarters of the Maximals and ninety percent of the Predacons opted to rebel against the Builders. Within days, three cities fell to the Resistance. Broken Windshields

Firmly on the back foot, the Builders attempted to maintain a semblance of order among the loyalists while trying to quietly stamp out the Resistance by deploying the Maximal Command Security Force, the Predacon Secret Police, and teams of still-mobile Micromasters. Their negligence allowed the Resistance to launch multiple incursions on the city of Tarn, where they attempted to breach the frozen Fortress Maximus and free the prisoners within. The first two raids were failures, but on the third the Resistance killed Fortress Maximus's consciousness and freed the Maximal and Predacon dissidents within. These early political prisoners soon became celebrated Resistance figures. Head Games

A string of Builder victories followed—the battle of Melpomene Bridge saw the MCSF detonate the bridge and momentarily halt the Resistance advance. However, with Fort Max gone, the Builders were spooked. Despite their best efforts to deny it, everyone knew they were at war. Burning Bridges Builder loyalist Hot Rod managed to thwart Autobot-turned-Maximal-terrorist Grimlock's attempt to bomb Tesarus Arena with a sample of the dreaded G-Virus. Micro-Aggressions
