מדי שנה, מאות עורכי ויקיפדיה (ויקיפדים + ויקימדים) מתכנסים כדי לחגוג את הידע החופשי, בכנס העולמי השנתי של ויקימניה. הכנס ה-19 של ויקימניה יתקיים בקטוביץ, עיקר מקסימה בפולין, בין התאריכים 7-10 באוגוסט 2024, כשותפות בין ויקימדים מאזור מרכז ומזרח אירופה וקרן ויקימדיה. הכנס יארח כותבים ועורכים, הפועלים ליצירה ושיתוף של ידע חופשי מרחבי העולם כדי לדון בנושאים, לדווח על פרויקטים וגישות חדשות, לבנות רשתות ולהחליף רעיונות.

התוכנית

המועד האחרון להגיש בקשה לתוכנית (לדוגמה - נושאים לדיון ומיזמים להצגה), כבר חלף. הצוות בודק את כל ההצעות וידווח על ההחלטות במאי.

Attendance

Wikimania Katowice will be held in person and online. Registration will open soon. The cost of in-person registration will be subsidized by the Wikimedia Foundation and will cost USD $100. The virtual event will be fully funded by the Wikimedia Foundation and will remain free.

Scholarships

The scholarships process has concluded, with 252 full and partial scholarships awarded to individuals and 19 seats awarded to hubs and regional groups.

Side & Satellite events

Side events such as meetups, photo walks, edit-a-thons, tours and excursions will be taking place throughout the event. More information to come following the publication of the formal program.

Affiliates interested in hosting local events during Wikimania can apply for General Support Funds or reallocate GSF funds already obtained.

Wikimania is the annual conference celebrating all the free knowledge projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation – Wikimedia Commons, MediaWiki, Meta-Wiki, Wikibooks, Wikidata, Wikifunctions, Wikinews, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikiversity, Wikivoyage, and Wiktionary – with days of conferences, discussions, meetups, training, and workshops. Hundreds of volunteers and Free Knowledge leaders from around the world gather to discuss issues, report on new projects and approaches, and exchange ideas.
