David Lammy, UK Foreign Secretary, has appointed Ngaire Woods, founding Dean of Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government, to lead a review of global impact for the UK government. Professor Woods joins two other experts who will lead reviews to ensure that Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is well positioned to reconnect Britain and deliver the UK government’s missions internationally.
The global impact review will consider opportunities to enhance relationships with both new and longstanding international partners in pursuit of shared objectives as well as the government’s strategic capabilities to assess and respond to geopolitical shifts.
Ngaire Woods said:
“It is a privilege to chair the Global Impact Review of the Foreign Office, and contribute to refreshing and strengthening the UK’s approach to foreign policy and contributions to international cooperation.”
The Foreign Secretary has also appointed Baroness Minouche Shafik, former Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development and Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, and Sir Martin Donnelly, former Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Trade and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to lead reviews on development and economic diplomacy respectively.
The outcomes of these reviews are expected to be delivered by the end of the year, with further work on the development review continuing into early 2025.
