There’s a moment in John Milius’ Conan the Barbarian that always gets to me. It’s that scene right before the final battle when Conan prays to his Cimmerian god and states that no one will remember who he and his companion were – the only thing that matters is that, in that moment, two stood against many. From the battle of Thermopylae to Black Hawk Down, the idea of a small group standing their ground against an overwhelming force is one of the most compelling setups in all of fiction, and this also applies to the horror genre.
Many of our favorite scary stories borrow from this same mythological source, which is why there are countless horror movies about small groups of survivors attempting to defend an isolated location from evil invaders. And in honor of what we’ve now come to know as “Siege Films,” we’ve decided...

The Captain Pike Trekkies see on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a very different Captain Pike they saw in the original 1966 "Star Trek" pilot "The Cage." The latter Pike was played by Jeffrey Hunter as an angry, passionate figure, quick to lose his temper, and only able to solve problems through sheer force of enraged will. The Pike as seen in the 2009 "Star Trek" movie was played by Bruce Greenwood had a scene so "hideously uncomfortable" that we're shocked he agreed to return for the sequel. The newer Pike, as played by Anson Mount, is a lighthearted, gregarious figure, eager to engage in jocular diplomacy and greet any and all members of his staff into his quarters for breakfast. The Hunter Pike seems like he would be an intimidating boss. The Mount Pike is the boss you always wish you'd get whenever you start a new job.

Star Trek: Voyager was a replacement for Patrick Stewart’s canceled The Next Generation, but things differed between both sets when it came to one aspect. Star Trek: Tng would’ve never allowed any of its stars to feel inferior, thanks to Stewart’s interference. Voyager star Garrett Wang did not have a great time on the set of his series due to body-shaming comments from the crew.

Wang’s co-star Robert Duncan McNeill also confirmed that the showrunner allowed several lines in the show that took a not-so-subtle dig at their body weight. Wang even recalled that the comments forced him to hit the gym to avoid future mockery.

Gene Roddenberry is the man behind Star Trek. Without him, none of us would be here today. He created the foundation of what the franchise would be and helped everyone see the potential that his little science-fiction show had. Now, decades later, so many voices have contributed to his original idea. So many that fans have taken issue with some of the uniqueness these new voices bring to the table.
The usual retort to something fans don't like is "Gene wouldn't like that". And he may not. Yet, it's important to note that Gene hated most of Star Trek. He disliked The Wrath of Khan, he hated Patrick Stewart and the idea of Deep Space Nine was one that may have been a hard sell to him. After all, he believed Star Trek should adhere to strict rules.
Now, not all of his rules are bad. For instance, highlighting a...

Marvel Studios can move mountains. Okay, maybe not literally; but metaphorically, the studio can move any mountains it wants to. They are single-handedly responsible for producing the most successful box office franchise of all time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which has grossed over $30 billion across its 34 movies), and it's still going strong.
Its current Multiverse Saga continues to surprise people, as the MCU is successfully able to use the concept to bring back classic actors to portray beloved roles and make some dream fan-castings a reality (John Krasinski as the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards), having them interact with some of the most popular and current characters within their own franchise.
It's like watching the past, present, and future collide all at once, and that's part of the Marvel magic that really proves the franchise can make the impossible happen. It reportedly tried to do it again another time...

During the 1953 world premiere of Samuel Beckett’s absurdist masterpiece, Waiting for Godot, at Paris’ Théâtre de Babylone, the curtain came down about 40 minutes into the first act as audience members whistled and hooted derisively. While the critics were accepting of the play, it presold few tickets for the American debut tour three years later in Washington and Philadelphia, prompting a move to Miami’s Coconut Grove Playhouse for a two-week run starring Bert Lahr and Tom Ewell. Promoted as “the laugh sensation of two continents,” it was greeted by vacationers with bafflement and described as a play where nothing happens. The reaction was so predictable that cabbies waited outside the theater for early exiters. Not surprisingly, the New York engagement was canceled.
“Nothing happens, that’s the thing. It’ll be interesting to see, when we put this up in front of an audience for the first time, how they respond.

The Crystalline Entity first appeared in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Datalore", and it served as an overwhelming force of nature that the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise didn't know how to deal with. It was massive in scale and required great deals of energy to stay alive, energy it acquired by eating entire planets of life. It would extend a beam down to a planet's surface and essentially suck up and obliterate anything alive below. The Entity was an indifferent force of faceless destruction, and many Trekkies have compared it to Moby-Dick in that regard. It's not evil, but merely unaware that its consumption habits have the capability of ending entire civilizations.
In "Datalore," the Entity had been weaponized by Lore (Brent Spiner), the "evil twin" of the android Data (also Spiner). It seems that...

Almost a year and a half after season three of Star Trek: Picard aired its finale, "The Last Generation," there are some actors such as Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Todd Stashwick, and plenty of fans who are not ready to give up on the idea of continuing adventures with the legacy characters and the newer characters that made their debuts on Picard. LeVar Burton is one of those actors.
In an interview with TVLine [via Whatculture] the man behind Commodore Geordi Laforge is still onbard for the series that would follow Captain Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan], her first officer Raffi Musiker [Michelle Hurd], and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's [Patrick Stewart] son, Jack Crusher [Ed Speleers].

For the most part, it's hard to have too many strong opinions about "Family Guy" on an episode-by-episode basis. Most of the show's humor comes in the form of cutaways or otherwise self-contained jokes, meaning that so many of its best and worst moments feel completely disconnected from the episode they're from. I for one really hate that joke where Quagmire rapes Marge from "The Simpsons," but it barely affects my feelings towards the episode it's part of ("Movin' Out (Brian's Song)"), mainly because it's so easy to forget that this was the episode where the series did that gag.
That said, some episodes of "Family Guy" have a plot so terrible that they really do stick in viewers' minds long after the credits roll, regardless of any funny cutaways they have to ease the blow. So, below are five of my least favorite "Family Guy" episodes in the series.

Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin (1997) may be controversial to superhero fans, but no one can deny that it has a lot of interesting behind-the-scenes stories that are sometimes too crazy to be true. Even though George Clooney’s Batman wasn’t the best, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze remains iconic.

A Tiny Star Trek: Lower Decks Easter Egg References One Of The Next Generation's Weirdest Characters
The latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," titled "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," takes place on the Cosmic Duchess, a massive, massive vacation cruise ship that has been outfitted with multiple enclosed, environmentally controlled vacation biomes. The ship includes a ski resort, a beach resort, a tropical river, and a slot machine-encrusted casino. The Duchess looks a lot like Earthship Ark from the short-lived 1973 Harlan Ellison sci-fi series "The Starlost," but it's unlikely anyone will understand that reference.
Early in the episode, Lieutenants Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Boimler (Jack Quaid) enthusiastically read a list of the Duchess' amenities. Mariner notes that they have 240 24-hour spas, an indoor water park, and, perhaps bafflingly, an underwater dry park. No one knows what an underwater dry park is, but they're eager to try. Boimler also notes that one of the space casinos has a bunch of Dixon Hill slot machines.

Captain Liam Shaw [Todd Stashwick] went from being a disliked captain who opposed Admiral Picard [Patrick Stewart] and Captain Riker [Jonathan Frakes] at every move and refused to acknowledge Seven of Nine {Jeri Ryan} by her preferred name. He was sarcastic and cold and didn't endear himself to any fans...at first. Over the course of the brief season of Star Trek: Picard, Shaw was redeemed and even handed over the reins of the Titan to Seven of Nine and recommended her to be promoted to captain. His redemption arc was well-played in so few episodes. Unfortunately, Captain Shaw was killed before the season ended, and while Terry Matalas and Stashwick have discussed ways to bring the captain back, it looks like it won't happen unless Star Trek: Legacy gets greenlit.

Let me preface this post by saying we don't know anything about Star Trek: Legacy other than it has not been greenlit. We don't know if it is even still a possibilty. That didn't stop Denise Crosby from bringing the series up at a Tampa Bay Comic Convention [thepopverse.com], and it sounds like she was all for what Terry Matalas had in mind for her.
According to Crosby, she had at least one conversation with Matalas, who was the showrunner for Star Trek: Picard, and Matalas told her he'd "love to do a storyline with Sela." She went on to expound on Matalas' success with the franchise and wondered why he hadn't been given "the keys to the kingdom" since he so clearly knows how to run a Star Trek show.
There's no denying that Matalas made a smashing success out of season three of Star Trek: Picard, and he'd likely...

Our beloved DC hero Batman has had several iterations in live-action since it first debuted decades ago. While most left an indelible impression on the world of superheroes, others went so incredibly wrong that they have now left a mark on the mythos so dark that it is hard to ignore them. And so, whether fans would want it or not, many can’t help but think about what a disaster Batman & Robin was.

Jeri Taylor, the Emmy-nominated producer, writer, director and showrunner who spent more than a decade working on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, which she co-created, has died. She was 86.
Taylor died Wednesday night of natural causes at an assisted living facility in Davis, California, her son Andrew Enberg told The Hollywood Reporter.
“My mother succeeded in a male-dominated industry,” her son said, “but she did it without being super aggressive. She did it with compassion and kindness. She was like a den mother to everyone.”
Before embarking on her Star Trek voyage, the Indiana native wrote and produced episodes of such popular network crime fare as Quincy, M.E., Magnum, P.I., Jake and the Fatman and In the Heat of the Night. She was adept at writing about “character, of people and relationships and feelings,” she once noted.

Tom Hardy was last seen in the recently released Venom: The Last Dance, which seems to be struggling at the box office. The final film of the Venom trilogy will mostly be Hardy’s last appearance as the loud-mouthed symbiote. While the franchise was not one of the best, Hardy’s performance as Eddie Brock and Venom stole the show.
Hardy is no stranger to blockbuster franchises, with one of his earliest roles being Star Trek: Nemesis. The actor played an evil clone of Patrick Stewart’s Captain Picard in the film. While Hardy may not be a fan of the film, the perfect comeback for him would be in Quentin Tarantino’s canceled R-rated Star Trek film.

While Hardy may not be a fan of the film, the perfect comeback for him would be in Quentin Tarantino’s canceled R-rated Star Trek film.

When you’re 93, your perspective in life is at another stage. Everything you’ve done comes running back to you. For William Shatner, it must be a mixed bag, having seen both the highs and lows the Industry has to offer.
Having made his mark with his role of Captain Kirk in the Og Star Trek series and movies, Shatner was acting royalty back in the end. And he still is, with a legacy like no other. But there are moments which he must have undoubtedly regretted, including lashing out at a sound engineer once.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, the speculating never ends with the MCU. And why should it? The franchise is the gift that just keeps on giving, offering up more and more potential for new ideas and storylines. That's more true than ever in the franchise's current Multiverse Saga. And it certainly lends itself to the fate of one beloved character, especially when the person responsible for bringing them to life has teased a potential comeback.
Recently, Elizabeth Olsen graced Jimmy Kimmel Live, and let's just say she didn't hide her excitement about potentially returning as the Scarlet Witch. With a knowing smile, she hinted that Wanda Maximoff's journey might not be over, telling audiences that she would love to return to the franchise. Now, what are we left to do? Speculate of course. And we can't help but do it, especially as Agatha All Along just recently suggested the character may not be dead after all.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5.
In "Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5, episode 2, "Shades of Green" (October 24, 2024), Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid) has been assigned to command a team of ensigns as they collect and dispose of all the physical money on the planet Targalus IX. The planet recently acquired replicators and transporters, instantly pushing it into a post-scarcity utopia. Boimler and his fellow Starfleet officers are pleased to help, as the Federation has always been a post-capitalist society.
In a not-very-surprising wrinkle, though, not all the Targalians are happy with the change. Many of the once-rich are resentful that the fall of the plutocratic system robbed them of their influence in the world. As a result, some Targalian separatists kidnap Boimler's team and cease their money destruction. The kidnapping was poorly timed, however, as Boimler, making a bold and uncharacteristic command decision, let his team...

When production began on Stuart Baird's "Star Trek: Nemesis," everyone knew it was going to be the final cinematic outing for the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The film is full of giant, dramatic changes for its characters and features multiple fond farewells. It even opens with the marriage of Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), a romantic consummation that had been dangling over the franchise since 1987. Riker also, at long last, accepted a captaincy of his own, taking command of the U.S.S. Titan. "Nemesis" was going to dramatize Riker's final mission as first officer of a ship called the Enterprise.
The ending of "Nemesis" was dramatic and tragic. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) was stranded on board a Romulan vessel and the Enterprise, pummeled in battle, was about to be destroyed. Data...

Honestly, it's amazing that the original "Star Trek" cast managed to do six movies together. The Enterprise crew were already middle-aged when they first reassembled in 1979 for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Then the 1982 sequel "The Wrath of Khan" made it text that Captain Kirk didn't feel as young as he used to. Yet they all kept returning for nine more years.
They didn't quite make it to "Star Trek Xii: So Very Tired," but they got halfway there. "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was definitely not the ending of all "Trek," but it was for the original cast. It was conceived that way, hence the ending where the Enterprise is set for decommission and Jim Kirk, in his final captain's log, says it's time for the next generation to have its moment in the sun.
Since making this film capped off a journey that began in 1966, the cast did a special commemoration.

"Star Trek" fans really had it all in the mid-1990s. The "Star Trek: The Next Generation" movies carried on the adventures of the Enterprise at the cinemas, while "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager" told new stories of Starfleet on the television each week. It was truly an amazing time to be a "Star Trek" fan, although occasionally it could feel like "The Next Generation" got preferential treatment above the other two series. That was especially true when it came to how the events of "Deep Space Nine" were depicted in the "Next Generation" movies.
You see, the events of "Star Trek: Insurrection" take place during the Dominion War, which is the main arc of the final few seasons of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Lieutenant Commander Worf (Michael Dorn) went from serving on the Enterprise to the space station Deep Space Nine when "The Next Generation" went off the air,...

Ridley Scott may not have been present for the first major screening of “Gladiator II” on Friday night on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles, but the 86-year-old director was the favorite topic of conversation for stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen and Fred Hechinger in the post-screening Q&a.
Mescal — who plays Lucius Verus, the grown son of Russell Crowe’s character from the first “Gladiator,” released in 2000 — spoke in awe about Scott’s ability to shoot the film’s elaborate opening battle sequence, which involved Pedro Pascal’s Roman general leading a fleet of ships invading a city on the North African coast.
“I think we shot that over nine days,” the actor said. “I don’t know any other director who could do that.”
Mescal was, understandably, nervous before the first shot.

“Gladiator II” screened for the first time on Friday, October 18 at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, and based on early reactions on social media from film critics and influencers, it is “a big, bloody and bad ass action spectacle,” a “true epic and Ridley Scott’s best in years,” and an all-caps “Masterpiece.”
Though official reviews are embargoed until a later date, the early reactions highlighted Scott’s direction, Mescal, Pascal, and Washington’s performances, and the overall production values of the sequel worthy of its Oscar-winning predecessor.
Following a screening of the 148-minute sequel, cast members Paul Mescal (as Lucius Verus), Connie Nielsen (as Lucilla), Denzel Washington (as Macrinus), and Fred Hechinger (as Emperor Caracalla) engaged in a panel discussion moderated by Jacqueline Coley, awards editor of Rotten Tomatoes. Star Trek: The Original Series debuted a challenging foe for Captain Kirk [William Shatner] in the episode "Space Seed." Ricardo Montalban played the part of the augmented Khan Noonien Singh who, like most villains, want world domination....or space domination. Of course, Khan was defeated by Kirk and sent to Ceti Alpha V to live out the rest of his life with his team of soliders and new wife. But then the planet became a wasteland, which cost Khan his wife, and he and his team were forced to eke out an existence. We all know how that worked out when Khan returned in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Khan dies at the end of the movie, but a spec script for Star Trek: The Next Generation had the idea to bring him into Captain Picard's [Patrick Stewart] world. Supposedly, according to writer and director Marc Bernardin, who...

Patrick Stewart became a global star when he played the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The spinoff show seemed to surpass its predecessor, the original series in terms of reach and even lasted seven seasons. However, Stewart’s show might have fallen behind in one aspect compared to its successors.

Although "Star Trek: Voyager" concluded in 2001, multiple characters from the series have returned throughout the franchise at large to remind Trekkies that they all still exist and are still going about their Starfleet careers. Both Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Tuvok (Tim Russ) appeared on "Star Trek: Picard," with the former playing a regular role on the series. The reference-heavy "Star Trek: Lower Decks" makes "Voyager" references all the time, and even had an episode set on board the U.S.S. Voyager.
Most notably, Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) not only had a cameo in the 2002 film "Star Trek: Nemesis," but a holographic version of the character played a large role in the animated series "Star Trek: Prodigy." That same show also featured the real-life Janeway, the Doctor (Robert Picardo), as well as a subplot involving Chakotay (Robert Beltran), the captain of the experimental ship the U.S.S.

When he first appeared in the "Star Trek" episode "Space Seed", Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán) was merely a villain-of-the-week. Khan was a remnant of the long-ago Eugenics Wars, a conflict that broke out on Earth in the late 1990s, and which contributed to the near-destruction of the planet several decades later. Khan, genetically enhanced, managed to escape Earth in cryogenic stasis, only to be found and revived by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise nearly 200 years later. As one might predict, Khan, still thirsty for power, attempted to take over the Enterprise.
It wouldn't be until the release of Nicholas Meyer's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" in 1982 that the character would become mythic. Montalbán returned to play a Khan that was miffed after having been abandoned, and who goes on a mad quest to find and kill Admiral Kirk (William Shatner). In "Space Seed,...

The changeover from Star Trek: Picard's second and third seasons frankly "saved" the show's reputation. Now, it's still not the best show in franchise history, far from it. It's still a bad show. The third season was a mess, with convoluted story notes, terribly written character interactions, and a desire to tear down some of the greatest characters in history. It was very much Star Trek's version of the modern Star Wars trilogy; an entity that just wanted to live off of nostalgia, but not knowing how.
Just like with the new Star Wars films, all Picard tried to do was two things; develop enough content for a spinoff, and find ways to bring back iconic concepts that were better off being left 30 years in the past. It failed, in many ways. Some fans loved the nostalgia-bait that they were given but upon further review, the third season doesn't cut the mustard,...

For the uninitiated, "Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted in late September 2001, shortly after "Star Trek: Voyager" ended its seventh and final season. "Voyager" ended a 14-year hot streak for "Star Trek," beginning in 1987 with the debut of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." That show, set in the 24th century, was such a hit that the curators of "Star Trek" — Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Jeri Taylor, and Brannon Braga highest among them — created two spinoffs that continued within the same timeline. They debuted "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in 1993, and "Voyager" was added in 1995. At the same time, the franchise continued its run on the big screen, seeing the release of four feature films in that same 14-year release window. It was a long road, getting from there to here.
"Enterprise," however, was met with skepticism. The new series was set in 2151, a full century before the events of the original "Star Trek,...

Paramount+ today debuted the official trailer for the fifth and final season of its hit animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks. The fifth and final season will premiere on Paramount+ with two episodes on Thursday, October 24, in the U.S. and internationally.
Following the premiere, new episodes of the 10-episode-long season will drop every Thursday on the service leading up to the series finale on Thursday, December 19.
In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” – subspace rifts that are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Junior Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford … If they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries, and scariest of all: their own career aspirations.

Marvel Reportedly Wants to Keep Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for as Long as Possible - Main Image

Many, many fans weren't fond of Star Trek: Picard despite how much they loved Patrick Stewart and his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Some preferred to remember him that way rather than how different he was as a retired admiral. But Admiral Picard had his good moments on Picard, and one of those moments involved an action that Captain Kathryn Janeway [Kate Mulgrew] should have taken a long time ago. Admiral Picard gave a field commission to Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan].
Of course, during the run of Star Trek: Voyager Starfleet was against the integratiaon of augments into the Academy or its ranks, and with Seven of Nine's Borg implants, that brought into question her loyalty. Simply put, Starfleet wasn't sure that she could be trusted enough to become an officer. But that changed after Admiral Picard gave her a field commission. Not...

Jac Schaeffer shockingly announced her departure from the upcoming Vision series, though the project will continue with Paul Bettany reprising his role. The show will focus on White Vision and will pick up after the events in 2021’s WandaVision.

The Agatha All Along showrunner has been juggling various Marvel projects over the past years, and the overwhelming amount of work has taken a toll on her physically and mentally. The overlapping productions for her current Disney+ series and the planned Vision show also did not help.
Why Did Jac Schaeffer Quit Vision Quest?
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jac Schaeffer explained why she had to leave Vision Quest despite her stellar works with Marvel franchises. She noted how she was spreading herself too thin with the simultaneous work on both Agatha All Along and Paul Bettany’s show “in a way that wasn’t tenable” for her.

Seven of Nine, portrayed by Jeri Ryan, is in the captain's chair of the new Enterprise, but that won't make a difference if Star Trek: Legacy isn't picked up for production. Essentially, we would be saying goodbye, for the most part, to Ryan's character as there isn't currently another place for her. But some fans have come up with another idea for Seven of Nine. They want to see her acclimating to life after Voyager. And this actually isn't a bad idea.
We know that after Voyager Seven of Nine tried to get into Starfleet, but even with the recommendation of Captain Janeway, she was rejected. After that, Seven turned to a different life; she joined the Fenris Rangers. Though considered vigilantes, Seven defended her choice by saying that she was helping people who no one else would help.

Exclusive: A story that lauded director John Boorman created for his children is being worked up as an animated feature. The Honey Wars was a tale that veteran helmer Boorman told his kids and now Dublin-based animation house Kavaleer Productions is developing it as a 90-minute-long film. Boorman has opened the Rolodex and helped reach out to some starry voice talent. The producers are in talks with Jamie Lee Curtis, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Brendan Gleeson, Richard E. Grant and Jon Voight.
Billed as a dark comedic fantasy, the story follows Hope, a young girl with a secret ability to see the invisible threads that connect the magical world to our own. Recently uprooted by the loss of her mother, she stumbles upon a bitter conflict rooted in two warring tribes: the Fairies and the Elves. She encounters Alfred, a mischievous and exiled Elf, and Fiona, an outcast fairy. The...
