On November 4, 2005, George Clooney brought the black and white television news drama Good Night, and Good Luck to theaters in wide release. The film, which grossed $54 million globally, went on to be nominated for six Oscars at the 78th Academy Awards, including for best picture. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
George Clooney’s deeply felt docudrama Good Night, and Good Luck provides a snapshot of the moment in history in which a major American television personality named Edward R. Murrow took on the malevolent power of a muckraking U.S. senator named Joseph McCarthy and won.
Shot in black and white in a brisk “you are there” 90 minutes, the film, which screened in competition, lovingly re-creates the studios and backrooms of 1950s New York journalism at the CBS television network, where the men wore white shirts and dark suits, the women fetched the coffee and the morning...

Exclusive: Add this one to the ongoing push-pull between streaming and theatrical. Wolfs, the Jon Watts-scripted and -directed film starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, has become the most viewed movie in Apple TV+ history.
Apple doesn’t break out specifics, but I’m told the film boosted viewership by nearly 30% week over week on the service. It premiered on Apple TV+ on September 27, in more than 100 countries. The film created the biggest viewership spikes in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany.
Wolfs stars Clooney and Pitt as “fixers,” shadowy guys who solve thorny problems for the wealthy. These two have to change their lone-wolf habits and work together. The original deal called for a distribution plan that was to start with a wide theatrical release before landing on the streaming service. That got changed to a limited weeklong release before the big streaming bow.
A slew of stars and influential figures, including former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, converged at the academy museum for A+E’s History Talks, drawing upon the past while offering inspiration for the future in a series of weighty conversations.
Kate Winslet, Kevin Costner, Kerry Washington, Nicole Avant, John Legend, Eva Longoria, Chuck Todd and a handful of historians and experts were among the other speakers during the A&e Networks event.
The Bush conversation was off-the-record. Meanwhile, Obama and Malcolm Gladwell spoke at length, touching upon a variety of topics including the importance of storytelling, the Reconstruction era and the Affordable Care Act. The pair stayed away from conversation about the current presidential race.

The Lido is in a frenzy for Wolfs.
Backed by the star power of its veteran A-list stars, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, the Jon Watts-directed film from Apple and Sony had a triumphant world premiere at the Venice Film Festival late Sunday night on the Lido. Expectedly, the crush of fans and media situated outside Palazzo del Cinema went wild for the pair as they arrived on the scene ahead of the screening. And once the final frames hit the screen and the credits rolled, Wolfs received a nearly five-minute standing ovation. Pitt and Clooney seemed to be soaking up the attention, with Pitt singing along to Sade and Clooney offering a “Grazie” to close it out.

Continuing their 23-year onscreen collaboration, George Clooney and Brad Pitt brought their latest co-starring venture to the Venice Film Festival today as Wolfs world premiered out of competition. The official screening was greeted with a five-minute, 35-second ovation Sunday inside the Sala Grande.
The duo danced to Sade’s ‘Smooth Operator’ as the credits rolled and they greeted fans on the way out, during which they also received congratulations from Cate Blanchett and Benedict Cumberbatch in the audience.
Also in attendance were cast members Amy Ryan and Austin Abrams. A no-show, however, was writer-director Jon Watts who, Clooney told the press this morning, is sick with Covid, “He flew all the way here and he got Covid and he’s now in bed.”

Brad Pitt and George Clooney hugged and danced at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday night as the two megastars’ latest film, “Wolfs,” received a polite four-minute standing ovation.
The premiere itself was delayed by more than 30 minutes as fans crowded into Venice’s Sala Grande in an attempt to catch a glimpse at Pitt and Clooney. When the duo finally arrived inside, the sound — and general vibe — in the theater could only be described as carnal. Both actors took to different sides of the carpet, signing autographs and taking selfies, before being whisked away to their seats by security.
As the two stars entered the theater, they greeted the eager crowd with a booming “Buonasera!,” prompting some fans to shout back in hopes of being noticed. Even as the film began rolling, the chaos continued, with those without tickets scrambling to find any empty seats. Some were ejected during...

George Clooney has commented for the first time on his New York Times op-ed asking Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race.
“I’ve actually never had to answer that question so I suppose I will do it here,” Clooney said when asked about it at the Venice press conference for his new film “Wolfs.”
“The person who should be applauded is the president, who has done the most selfless thing a president has done since George Washington,” he said, adding: “What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who, it’s very hard to let go of power — we know that, we’ve seen it all over the world — and for someone to say I think there’s a better path forward, all the credit goes to him. George Clooney had some unfortunate news to share at the first press conference for Apple’s hotly anticipated action comedy Wolfs at the Venice Film Festival.
The Hollywood actor, seated beside co-star Brad Pitt, revealed that the film’s director Jon Watts would be missing the movie’s world premiere in Italy Sunday night because he caught Covid.
“He traveled all the way here, and then caught Covid, Clooney said.
Watt also was absent from the press conference, leaving Pitt and Clooney to speak on behalf of the movie.
Pitt and Clooney co-star in the action comedy as professional fixers who are hired to cover up for the same high-profile crime, forcing the two “lone wolves” to work together — and before long they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither of them could have expected.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney play two lone-wolf fixers in the upcoming action thriller, Wolfs. The film is written and directed by Jon Watts, who exited the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pursue this script. Watts revealed in a recent interview that he was pranked by George Clooney and Brad Pitt even before the two began shooting for the film.

Watts directed the three Spider-Man films for the MCU, including the near-$2 billion-grossing No Way Home. He was the initial choice to direct Pedro Pascal’s The Fantastic Four but he left the project last year. The film was initially announced to be a wide theatrical release but Apple Studios changed its stance earlier this year.

In December 2021, Jon Watts found himself standing in the back of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on the opening night of his last film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. The entry was one of the first major studio theatrical releases following the pandemic shutdown, and the audience was standing, screaming, crying and generally carrying on in a way that, even for the first showing of a fan-favorite superhero movie, was a spectacle all to itself.
“That was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable,” remembers Watts. It was at this point that the director came to the realization: “It’s never going to be like this, ever again.”
No Way Home went on to gross nearly $2 billion at the global box office, the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time and one of the top Marvel movies, trailing only the last two Avengers films.

When one of your dearest couple friends, Lysa and Grant Heslov, move to London for the new Paramount+ series The Department, starring Michael Fassbender — which Grant and George Clooney’s company Smokehouse Pictures is producing — there is only one thing left to do. Get yourself a plane ticket.
In 10 years, I have never been able to get one ticket using air miles on the days that I needed. Not once. Didn’t believe it was possible. That is until I found David Fleming, aka The Miles Guy (who was born into Hollywood Royalty; his grandfather was famed publicist Warren Cowan). David specializes in helping people use their frequent air miles and credit card points for flights. As he puts it, “there are a lot of people who have a ton of points but don’t know how to use them effectively. That’s where I come in.” Done: British Airways first-class round trip to London.

“Wolfs,” the upcoming crime film that reunites George Clooney and Brad Pitt, is pivoting its theatrical release plan from a wide release to a limited one before it lands on Apple TV+. And though that may not sound like a vote of confidence, Apple has just announced a sequel for “Wolfs” before it’s even opened.
Jon Watts writes and directs “Wolfs,” and it was originally supposed to get a wide theatrical release on September 20 after first premiering at the Venice Film Festival. That release date is staying the same, but instead of getting a long run in theaters, Apple has also announced when it will drop on Apple TV+, one week later on September 27.

Apple Original Films is changing up its theatrical release strategy with “Wolfs,” the upcoming action comedy from “Spider-Man: No Way Home” director Jon Watts and starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, which has a sequel already greenlit.
Rather than a full theatrical exclusive run similar to the ones Apple has done for films like “Argylle” and “Fly Me to the Moon” in partnership with legacy studios, “Wolfs” will be released in theaters for a limited release on Sept. 20 before being released on Apple TV+ one week later Sept. 27.
It is unclear whether “Wolfs,” which has Sony Pictures attached as a distribution partner will continue to run in theaters after its streaming release or if it is set to run in theaters for one week only. TheWrap has reached out to Apple for comment and will update with any response.

Apple Original Films is shaking up its release strategy as it doubles down on the upcoming action-comedy “Wolfs,” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
Apple has made a deal with director Jon Watts to helm, write and produce a sequel for the A-list stars.
The film, which will premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, was originally slated for a wide release before hitting Apple TV+. Now, it’s set for a one-week limited theatrical release on Sept. 20, followed by an Apple TV+ debut on Sept. 27.
In “Wolfs,” Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high profile crime.
