Ian holds a California #1 Pyro Card, Federal Explosives licenses and an IATSE 44 Special Effects Card.
Fully versed in all aspects of Physical Effects and with specialties including but not limited to: Pyrotechnics, Stunt Rigging, Electronics, Remote Control ,and Pnuematics. Ian prides himself on finding creative solutions to effects challenges and bringing an artistic vision to the work.
O'Connor FX has an extensive stock of special effects equipment, a full complement of tooling for fabrication and fully equipped effects trailers.
In 1992, after over a decade working at some of the nation's most respected theaters, Ian moved to Los Angeles, where he achieved much success as a miniature pyrotechnics specialist during the "golden era" of miniature visual effects in the 1990's. Along with numerous Feature Film, Television and Commercial credits he has designed Mechanical and Pyrotechnic special effects for Broadway, AC/DC, Casinos, New York's Public Theater, and the George Lucas Super live Adventure in Japan.
Ian has been asked to give lectures and presentations for the Visual Effects Society, Gnomon School of Visual Effects, IATSE and others. He has served as a special effects consultant for Sony Pictures in Moscow, Russia and taught special effects master classes in Kiev, Ukraine. His work has been featured in Cinefex, American Cinematographer, The New York Times, The LA Times, Movie Magic, PBS Nova: "Special Effects Titanic and Beyond", Cinefantastique & the french publication Dixieme Planete:"Effets Speciaux". He resides in the Hollywood Hills with his wife and business partner Sherry and their two Borzoi dogs: Diego and Quinn.
