After a very short engagement, announced in the summer of 2013, Seth married his longtime girlfriend, lawyer Alexi Ashe Meyers, on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, September 1, 2013.

Eventually, the road took him to Amsterdam, where he was the writer and co-star of a two-person comedy show called "Pick-ups and Hiccups" that he and Jill Benjamin staged five nights a week in a 200-seat theatre. With Amsterdam as his home base, he did versions of the show in London and Edinburgh--even Singapore--but it was during a brief run at the Chicago Improv Festival that he caught the eye of a Saturday Night Live (1975) casting director. He was invited to New York for a try-out, then a follow-up, and then he was hired.

His father, Larry Meyers (Lawrence "Larry" Meyers Jr.), works with GE Trade Finance. His mother, Hilary Meyers (née Hilary Claire Olson), is a legendary teacher of French at McKelvie Middle School in Bedford, New Hampshire; she is known almost universally throughout the town as Madame Meyers.

After graduating from Manchester West High School in Manchester, New Hampshire, he earned a degree from Northwestern University, then he took his act on the road. He worked with the traveling troupe of a group called Boom Chicago.

An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, he donated his Celebrity Poker Showdown winnings to the Jimmy Fund, which is a Boston-area charity that specializes in children's cancer treatment. It has been associated with the Red Sox for over 50 years.

Seth's paternal grandfather, Lawrence Lashe Meyers, was the son of Lithuanian Jewish parents, while Seth's paternal grandmother, Barbara Marcheck, was from a family of Bohemian (Czech) and Croatian descent. Seth's mother is of English, German and Swedish descent. Seth discovered on Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2012) that his great-grandfather, who was from Brazavas, Kalvarija, Lithuania, had changed his surname from Trakianski to Meyers, after his own father, Mejer Trakianski.

Ashe Olsen Meyers, son with wife Alexi Ashe Meyers, was born on March 27, 2016. He came two weeks early. Ashe is his wife's and Olsen his mother's maiden name.
