Netflix has canceled “All About the Washingtons.”
The scripted comedy starred Joseph Simmons — Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C. — and real-life wife Justine Simmons playing fictionalized versions of themselves raising a family of four kids. After Joey decides to retire from a long career as hip-hop royalty, his wife Justine takes advantage of the opportunity to pursue a career of her own now that Joey is available to focus on raising the kids and keeping the house in order. The couple’s kids are portrayed by rising stars Kiana Ledé, Nathan Anderson, Leah Rose Randall and Maceo Smedley.
“All About the Washingtons,” the first season of which premiered Aug. 10, was originally developed by ABC Studios and Amblin Television for the ABC television network. ABC passed on the show, which went on to land a series order from Netflix. Executive producers on the series were Joseph Simmons, Justine Simmons, Michael Lehman, Darryl Frank,...

Weinstein's camp tells us the women came to the meeting to deliver info about an anger management program they're urging him to enter. We're told the trio was waiting to meet with Weinstein's rehab sponsor. Here's Harvey Weinstein -- or maybe a Blues Brother, or a long-lost member of Run Dmc -- wining and dining 2 blondes in the desert. TMZ obtained the photo, taken last Saturday night at a restaurant in Carefree, Az ... just outside Phoenix.

Conan O’Brien may be a California man now, but he’ll always have a little piece of Harlem. The talk-show host brought Conan to N.Y.C. for a week of shows at Apollo Theater, and the series has already been a delight. From taking the “New York City citizenship test” with Jon Stewart (“Where in New York City is the ball dropped every year?” “Citi Field.”) to debuting the Law & Order “dead body tour,” the show is thriving in the city Conan once called home. But ever since the host tweeted that he’d be getting a makeover from Dapper Dan,...

I love Netflix's dark animated comedy series Bojack Horseman. It's funny, surreal, but most of all it's sincere and emotional as hell. Sure it's full of dumb puns (Bojack once did a song with Run Dmc called "Trot this Way"), sight gags (a guy saying sorry to his cow waiter after ordering a burger), and off-beat story tangents (like J.D. Salinger being alive and wanting to make game shows); however, it's also... Read More...

The mood got decidedly funnier and edgier in this year’s Emmy race for Original Music and Lyrics. It was a badly needed tonic for the country. Most notably, Tina Fey joined the musical fray for the first time, looking for her 10th Emmy with the hilarious “Hell No,” a tribute to Beyonce’s “Lemonade” (featuring an enraged Tituss Burgess) from “Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt.”
But, given the current zeitgeist, it’s not surprising that Chance the Rapper was nominated for his Run-d.M.C.–inspired rap tribute to Obama, “Last Christmas,” from “Saturday Night Live,” or that Rachel Bloom was back again with the raunchy “We Tapped That Ass” from “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” There was even room for the excruciatingly uncomfortable “The Ballad of Claus Jorstad (Devil Stool)” from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and and the animated burlesque of “Jing-a-Ling-a-Ling” from “Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special.”

In the new FX drama Snowfall, it's the summer of 1983 in South Central L.A.: palm trees, fire hydrants, boomboxes and the friendly neighborhood weed dealer. There's a kid named Franklin Saint – he went to a preppie boarding school in the Valley, but instead of moving on to college, he's drifted back to his old mean streets, working nights at a convenience store. By day, he sells pot to the local kids who dance while their radios blast "Jam on It." Across the country, a rap crew from Queens...

Chance the Rapper performed live at Saturday Night Live last night for the final show of the year. Chance performed the song “Finish Line/Drown” with Noname, and “Same Drugs” with Francis and the Lights. He also participated in a parody of Run Dmc‘s “Christmas in Hollis” that spoofed the black community’s reaction to the end […]

Despite being fronted by the bland Casey Affleck, Saturday Night Live closed out 2016 with an episode that fired on nearly all cylinders.
RelatedRogue One‘s Felicity Jones to Host First SNL of 2017
The Manchester by the Sea actor made virtually no lasting impression during his hosting debut, save for a mildly amusing Dunkin Donuts commercial that came directly after the monologue. For the remainder of the evening, Affleck proved unremarkable in sketches where he was completely overshadowed by both repertory players and a bevy of special guests. Instead, the writing was where this episode excelled, at times flirting with...

Just in case you've been living in the Upside Down, let me get you up to speed: Stranger Things Season 2 is officially happening. And as revealed by the show's unreasonably-attractive creators the Duffer Brothers, the new episodes will be set a year after the events of the first season, which would place the characters squarely in the latter days of 1984 (Season 1 took place between November and December of 1983). While that's not a whole lot later, it's still enough time for a massive number of pop-culture and consumer products to have been introduced in the interim, from film to TV to music to technology. So what, pray tell, will Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve (but not Barb, obvs) be using, watching, wearing, reading and listening to in the new season that wouldn't have been available to them in the prior timeline because they didn't exist yet? For those curious...

Fashion is something that means a great deal of things, different to each person. To some it’s just stuff to wear as you go about your day, to others it is a way to express one’s self and to others it is a great art form that deserves serious cultural and sociological respect and admiration. And that doesn’t even touch the world of shoes and footwear.
To many, shoes are the ultimate fashion statement. Some may see them as just things to cover your feet during the day, but to many they are art pieces that are more deserving than any of a high price tag. With some shoes reaching into the thousands of dollars and coming from the most respected of designers, who are the people that not only are able to afford these pieces, but dedicate much of their life to collecting them like film fans do Blu-ray releases?...

Gotta love the 80s.
“Ping Pong Summer” is a good tribute movie to those moviegoers who remember growing up in the 80s. It’s about a teenager who spends a summer at the beach in Ocean City in 1985. It combines the tributes of arcade games, young teen love, hip hop and of course—ping pong.
The film has great veteran actors like Susan Sarandon, Lea Thompson, Amy Sedaris and John Hannah. It also features the young actors of Marcello Conte, Myles Massey and Emmi Shockley.
Latino-Review had an extended exclusive phone interview with director Michael Tully. We discussed in significant detail about the production, the actors, the music and the love of the 1980s.
“Ping Pong Summer” is currently in limited release in certain theaters and also available on VOD.
Read the interview below.

Justin Timberlake helped Jimmy Fallon close out his debut week hosting The Tonight Show with the “History of Rap Part 5.”
Following a week of guest appearances that ranged from Bradley Cooper to Michelle Obama, was Timberlake – who had the honor of being the only guest on The Tonight Show on Friday night. Before Fallon and Timberlake began the fifth installment of their popular gag, the audience erupted in cheers.
Tone Loc’s “Wild Thing,” The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa,” Run Dmc and Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song, Salt ‘N’ Peppa’s “Whatta Man,” Kriss Kross’s “Jump,” “99 Problems,” by Jay Z and Drake’s “Started From the Bottom,” all made the cut for the latest “History of Rap” installment.

Only on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" can you get two Santas fighting cops in front of a bunch of kids to the strains of Run Dmc's "Christmas in Hollis" in the first minute of the show.
Tonight was the Christmas episode! Merry merry, happy happy... death threats. Holt (Andre Braugher) has been the target of some death threats, and he chooses Jake (Andy Samberg) as his security detail because he figured Jake would leave him alone, breaking the rules, and letting him go on normally in peace. Not so much.
Jake says he's sticking to him, and offers to take Holt to his mom's house to work in peace. Holt agrees to that because he "wants to see where... this... all started." But Jake does a big old switch, and Holt finds himself handcuffed to Jake in a safe house. They pass the time eating sandwiches and playing Wii tennis until...

Wilco: The Whole Love (dBpm)
The last two extra tracks on the deluxe version are "Speak into the Rose," a wonderfully propulsive Krautrock rip, and a less-plush alternate take of "Black Moon," a gently jangling ballad that delicately wafts the deluxe album to a beautiful, tender conclusion. Think about the contrast there, then imagine them combined in one song. You've basically imagined the whiplash-inducing opening track on the main album. I've had my problems with Wilco in the past: S/T was kinda boring, Sky formulaically pretty, the Jim O'Rourke-induced artiness of Ghost too stiffly self-conscious. Here, the beauty and the experimentation have been more organically merged, suggesting that Nels Cline has finally gelled as a member.
Later tracks find their '70s rock fixation leading to some mildly psychedelic touches, some gritty garage-rock moves (even Mysterians-esque organ on "I Might"), a light-hearted update of The Band's sound...

We appear to be in the epoch of the hip-hop biopic. Last year brought us "Notorious" (about the life of the Notorious B.I.G.), while films about Tupac, Run-d.M.C. and the Juice Crew are all in different states of production. Yesterday came the news that the next rap legends to be immortalized on film will be N.W.A, who will be the subject of a film called (fittingly) "Straight Outta Compton." It's a story that will make a perfect film, as N.W.A rose up from the underground, made a colossal impact on the music world and then burned out just as quickly (which makes for a comfortable story arc).
But who will step into the difficult roles of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Mc Ren, Yella and especially Eric "Eazy-e" Wright? If we were producing "Straight Outta Compton," here are the first actors who would get offers. And if...
