The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series called Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The show began filming in Thailand last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Filming resumed earlier this year and wrapped a few months ago – and now the first footage has been unveiled! This footage can be seen in the embed above, a video Disney+ released to celebrate five years of their streaming service and to give a preview of the shows that will be reaching Disney+ and “Hulu on Disney+” in the next year (so Alien: Earth could be described as an “FX on Hulu on Disney+” project), as Hulu is streaming in the Disney+ app for Bundle subscribers in the United States.

Of course, Alien: Earth isn’t the only show featured in this promo video.

Although a teaser promo for the series was recently released, we still know very little about Alien: Earth beyond a brief logline (see below), but creator Noah Hawley has now shared some intriguing new details about what will undoubtedly be the most important aspect of the project for many fans: the Xenomprphs!

Though the show is set in the (seemingly) safe confines of Earth before the events of Ridley Scott's original, the titular acid-secreting creatures will still feature - but they might differ somewhat to the Xenos we're used to seeing on the big screen.

The majority of people are unaware that the initial story for the Alien franchise was written by the late writer Dan O’Bannon and his colleague Ronald Shusett. With his Alien film, Ridley Scott popularized the franchise, and the rest is history, as the Alien franchise became a pillar of modern science-fiction and one of the most popular franchises of all time.

Since the first film, it has expanded its fictional world and explored the beginnings of its own universe, although the most recent entry, the horror Alien: Romulus, which is set between Alien and Aliens and returns to the current timeline of the universe, provided us with something different. The movie is currently airing in theaters around the world and is a major hit.

But, aside from expanding the franchise further, Alien: Romulus also gave us a glimpse at the upcoming Alien: Earth series, which is scheduled for a 2025 release.

Previously and very briefly known as Alien: Neverland, Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show is now called Alien: Earth.

After reports that Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show was to be called Alien: Neverland, it now seems that Hawley and FX have gone in a different direction, calling the upcoming series Alien: Earth instead.

The Alien: Neverland title floated around in June, but Hawley confirmed the title in an interview with Variety after producer John Landgraf revealed the title in a separate interview.

Speaking to Variety after the Emmy nominations, Hawley confirmed that production on Alien: Earth had now been completed and the grind to finish the visual effects is now beginning.

“It’s a very big show. It’s nice to have some time with it,” Hawley said. “The first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not up against the wall in terms of time.

Hulu has shared the trailer and key art for Shardlake, the new series based on the popular Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom. The series premieres on Wednesday, May 1, on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in select territories.

Drenched in mystery, suspense, and deception, this four-part drama, based on the first novel in C.J. Sansom’s book series, is an eerie whodunnit adventure set in 16th-century England during the dissolution of the monasteries.

Shardlake’s sheltered life as a lawyer is turned upside down when Cromwell instructs him to investigate the murder of one of his commissioners at a monastery in the remote town of Scarnsea. The commissioner was gathering evidence to close the monastery, and it is now imperative for Cromwell’s own political survival that Shardlake both solves the murder and closes the monastery.

It’s the battle of the TV Cromwells! On BBC One later this year, Mark Rylance returns in the role of Henry VIII’s right hand man in series two of Wolf Hall, adapted from Dame Hilary Mantel’s acclaimed novels. But before then, Sean Bean will play Thomas Cromwell in Disney+ British historical crime mystery Shardlake.

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, a show that began filming last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Production is set to resume any day now – and during an interview with Collider, Hawley confirmed that while the series is intended to be a recurring show that will last for more than one season, he also knows where the story is going. Decades after making the sci-fi horror classic Alien, director Ridley Scott returned to the Alien franchise with the intention of making a series of prequels that would tell us all about the “Space Jockey” and the creation of the xenomorph. The mythology Scott presented in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant didn’t sit well with a lot of fans – and when Alien: Covenant underwhelmed and underperformed, his prequel series came to an early end. Now the franchise is set to continue with a new film directed by Fede Alvarez and an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley… and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley confirmed that he’s one of the fans who wasn’t very impressed by the story told in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. So don’t expect to see nods to the mythology or technology of those films in the TV show.

The Alien franchise will return with its first ever television series in 2025, and it’s set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.

Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films, but don’t expect Ridley Scott’s prequel movies to factor into the series. Scott, who’s on board the FX series as producer, dug into the origins of the Xenomorphs in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but Hawley reveals in a new chat with Kcrw’s The Business that he’s not interested in playing with any of those story threads.

The cast for FX’s “Alien” series continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that actor Moe Bar-El (The Peripheral) joins in recurring capacity. More interestingly, the announcement gives a bit more insight to the many of the characters in the series.

Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, and Adrian Edmondson have all been cast in the series.

Sydney Chandler stars in FX’s “Alien” as Wendy, said to be “a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult.”

Paapa Essiedu, a breakout star of BBC/HBO series I May Destroy You, is to headline a Sky action thriller that uses a similar narrative device to Groundhog Day and is written by Joe Barton, the newly-unveiled showrunner on HBO Max’s The Batman.

Ymu Group has confirmed it will rebrand leading scripted talent firm Troika as Ymu Drama and Comedy, effective July 1. The Troika brand will be discontinued as the division is fully integrated within the group, following a management shakeup.

As reported exclusively by Variety in May, Troika co-founders Conor McCaughan and Michael Duff have left the agency. Collectively, they represented some of the British industry’s top names, including Jamie Dornan, Michael Fassbender, Paddy Considine, Ruth Wilson, Babou Ceesay, Peter Capaldi, Holliday Grainger, Michaela Coel and Lena Headey.
