Robyn (with a "Y") was home-schooled until the age of 10 and started dancing ballet at age 8. Goofy, loud, fun loving friend and daughter, Robyn always took the spotlight to bring joy and happiness to her friends and family. She is an animal lover, especially dogs, and enjoys any and all outdoor adventures. Anyone who knew her growing up would say that she is extremely honest and funny, but also cares deeply and is very sensitive. She might be a wild girl at heart, but she has a stillness as well which she has transformed into creating her own projects to share with the world.
She is a natural musician and plays many instruments her favorite being Ukulele and Tap Dance. She also sings Pop/Folk, Raps and writes lots of poetry. She enjoys making custom acrylic abstract paintings for friends and family along with her very unique miniature penguin sculptures that she creates based on the person's characteristics she is making them for.
In college Robyn excelled at contemporary/ hip hop/ Broadway/ jazz fusion choreography. She was in many musicals in college, so in addition to studying dance she trained in theatre and also took private vocal training. She later shared her gifts of dance & song with many young children in the public school systems of New York City creating show stopping numbers for the parents and community to enjoy. She received recognition from the principal of K164 & K116 and many parents and teachers still reach out to her. She also had the opportunity to work with the talented gymnasts of Flip Fest Gymnastics Camp in Crossville TN where she created large group numbers and even did a very special Tribute to Michael Jackson after his death in 2009. Robyn's love of dance and storytelling propelled her to dig deeper and after much consideration she resigned from her beloved teaching job and decided to go and become a student again and train full time for acting.
She started with Sketch Comedy and Improvising at the PIT and The Magnet Theatre and soon formed her own Improvising troupe called "IMPRO-VIBE". She then went to HB studios to try a scene study class, but wanted more deeper legit serious training. She met a fellow actor at the Drama Book Shop in 2010 and fell into a very passionate acting class with the much admired Anthony Abeson who teaches at the Producers Club. Flooded by all the emotions that were being unlocked by Anthony's magical ways Robyn decided to produce a short film with her film crew friends touching on the issue of Rape and Revenge. The film titled "Still Alive" was chosen to be featured in the short film corner for the Cannes Film Festival in France. With this new insight into the power acting can have on the world Robyn wanted still more fundamental training to learn how to go places mentally that she craved.
After much consideration and lots of conversations with actors and directors and even some writers, Robyn chose to study the fundamentals of the Meisner Technique at William Esper Studios and was recommended to train with Barbara Marchant. After the 8 week summer intensive she knew that Meisner was exactly the foundational training she wanted so badly. Through out the two and a half years studying there she became more and more open to her imagination and also the responsibility she would have as an actress and artist.
"Esper gave me the structure and understanding I craved to be able to build characters and performances layer by layer. I learned through watching my fellow classmates, through lots of research, and through trial and error. I made lots of mistakes and I'm thankful that I had the amazing opportunity to develop as an actress there in my safe room of studio 7." - 2015 Robyn Young
"Anthony Abeson has a heart big enough to love the whole world, and eyes sharp enough to pierce even the thickest wall you have protecting yourself...he truly showed me how to connect with the character's thoughts and dive into a circumstance by simply suggesting." - 2013 Robyn Young
"Robyn Young is an extraordinary creative, talented, ambitious, hardworking dancer and artist." - 2009 Bob E Thomas
"She is a remarkable artistic force." - 2009 Bob E Thomas
