I think I saw Dancer, Texas on DVD and I was quite interested in it through the title, especially as the title resembled Paris, Texas, the Wim Wenders movie released just a few years before. Dancer, Texas Pop. 81 isn't a quirky movie as such, and its honesty in chasing your dreams and the world beyond Dover sums up a lot about small town life and what lies beyond. In some ways perhaps Dancer, Texas Pop. 81 is the clean American pie version of American country life, and it happened that one year later we had the movie American Pie which sadly seemed to overshadow the message of Dancer, Texas Pop. 81.
