Actress Vanessa Hudgens is heading to the Philippines to explore her family history as the star of a new travel documentary. The film will capture Hudgens’ first trip to the country of her mother’s birth, showcasing her close relationship with her family and her personal trajectory as an American-born, half-Filipino woman who has become one of the world’s most recognizable stars.
The project is set to begin shooting in the Philippine cities of Palawan and Manila later this month. Hudgens will be accompanied on the journey and in the film by her mother, Gina Guangco, and her sister, Stella Hudgens. The actress has often spoken with pride about the biography of her mom, who left the Philippines for the U.S. at age 25.
“I feel like ours is such a relatable story to so many women all over the world,” Hudgens says. “The more that we can share,...

David Spade and Chris Farley only made two films together as co-leads. In 1995, they appeared in Peter Segal's "Tommy Boy" and in 1996, they starred in Penelope Spheeris' "Black Sheep." They also both appeared in the movie "Coneheads," although they had no scenes together, and were part of a generation of comedians who started on "Saturday Night Live" in 1990. This generation, often called "The Bad Boys of SNL," included future stars like Adam Sandler, Tim Meadows, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider. The group frequently worked together both on the show and in feature films, and some of them still collaborate to this day.
Farley, rather tragically, passed away in 1997 at the age of 33 due to a drug overdose. There was every reason to believe that, had he survived, Farley's career would have continued to progress, evolve, and include more dramatic work. Of the "Bad Boys," Farley seemed to have the greatest comedic chemistry with Spade,...

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" cleaned up at the 95th annual Academy Awards, taking home seven Oscars including the trophies for Best Picture and Best Director for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. So, what are Daniels (as the duo is collectively known) doing next? Why making a Star War, of course!
It's a common refrain in modern Hollywood: a promising director (or directing duo) scores a hit, then immediately gets snatched up by a studio to oversee one of their franchises. Hence, it's understandable people weren't exactly thrilled to learn Daniels are working on "Skeleton Crew," an upcoming live-action "Star Wars" streaming series that takes place concurrently with "The Mandalorian" and its spinoffs. Is this the minds who gave us Daniel Radcliffe: Farting Corpse and a universe where everyone has hotdog fingers leaving their days of being legitimately weird and innovative behind them? In a subsequent Instagram story post...

It’s the movie that made Tom Cruise an overnight superstar. And now, a new book claims the actor made quite an impression on his costar Rebecca De Mornay while making Risky Business in 1983.

30 years ago today, John Hughes's teen movie The Breakfast Club opened in the Us, and although it wasn't a runaway box office hit, in the years since it has rightly claimed a place as a screen classic.
Buoyed by brilliant performances, a sharp script and direction from Hughes and that Simple Minds track, this is a film we return to again and again. But what happened to its stars? We go then and now with the cast to find out what happened to the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess and the criminal.
Anthony Michael Hall - Brian Johnson
A staple of John Hughes movies in the '80s, Hall brought endearing geeky charm to National Lampoon's Vacation , Sixteen Candles and Weird Science.
As he grew out of child star roles, Hall sought to shed his established screen persona with a diverse selection of character parts across film and TV.

The Breakfast Club opened in theaters on Feb. 15, 1985. It has since become a classic, celebrated not only for capturing the decade from which it originated but also for nailing the hapless, yet hopeful angst of teenage life in any decade. Even thirty years later, there's a lot to learn from this story of five disparate teens - Andy the Jock (Emilio Estevez), Brian the Brain (Anthony Michael Hall), Bender the Criminal (Judd Nelson), Claire the Princess (Molly Ringwald) and Allison the Basket Case (Ally Sheedy) - forced to spend Saturday detention together. Here's our take on the thirty best lessons.

What's in Netflix's '80s grab bag? Swoony Merchant-Ivory films; a trio of John Hughes romantic comedies; early films with Sean Penn and Matt Dillon; Oscar-winning turns by Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Daniel Day-Lewis; and a few classics you already know by heart.
Mixed in are probably a few critically acclaimed films you've never seen but always meant to, whether it's B-movie fun like "Big Trouble in Little China" or ultra-arty Nc-17 fare like "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover."
(Availability subject to change. DeLorean and pink prom dress not included.)
1. "A Room with a View" (1986) Nr
Helena Bonham Carter is torn between freethinker Julian Sands and stuffy fiancé Daniel Day-Lewis in this sumptuous (and very funny) Merchant-Ivory period romance.
2. "The Accused" (1988) R
It's tough viewing, but Jodie Foster is mesmerizing as a rape victim who faces down her assailants in court.
3. "Bad Boys" (1983) R

From the psychopathic, Christopher Lambert-bothering Kurgan in Highlander to tyrannical prison warden Byran Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption through to new recruit-maiming drill sergeant Zim in Starship Troopers, it's safe to say that I am one of the many movie fans who have more than just a handful of favourite Clancy Brown roles.
Brown joins an impressive cast that includes Anne Heche and James Tupper for Nothing Left To Fear, the first horror film to come from former Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash's production company 'Slasher Films'. Akin to Seventies horror classics The Wicker Man and Rosemary's Baby, Anthony Leonardi III's debut feature channels fears of the occult, secret societies and the supernatural with a modern twist.

Production designer J. Michael Riva, whose most recent work includes Quentin Tarantino’s currently filming Django Unchained and Sony’s franchise reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, has died. Riva was 63, and the circumstances and cause of death were not known but Deadline was able to confirm his passing. Very highly regarded in the industry, he was the son of actress-author Maria Riva and art director William Riva and the grandson of Marlene Dietrich and film editor Rudolph Sieber. Raised in New York City, he eventually found his way to Los Angeles. Dropping out of UCLA to pursue a career in production design, Riva apprenticed with Jackson DeGoiva and his first major movie was uncredited work with Toby Rafelson on I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977). That led to Brubaker (1980) with Robert Redford and subsequently Redford hired him for Ordinary People (1980). Other work included the 1984 cult fave The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension...

The numbers 4-20 have tons of significance in both world history and American culture. It's Hitler's birthday and the date of the Columbine massacre, for starters.
But since those two are such buzzkills, we'll focus on what else the date means: high time for stoners everywhere.
Looking back at our favorite stoner films, we notice many actors portray potheads one-dimensionally: eyes glazed, dopey voice, etc. We love the following movie stoners because they're not only funny, but also multidimensional.
Okay, but mostly because they're funny.
9. Brad Pitt, 'True Romance' (1993)
Floyd is the ultimate slacker stoner. Pitt plays the character as being so high he barely forms words outside of mumbling, "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products." His scenes provide great comedic relief in an otherwise rough and violent movie.
We relate because we've had nightmarishly lazy roommates like Floyd. The scenes are twice as funny now in hindsight,...

Just so we're clear, I have enormous respect for Sean Penn. I've been a fan since the early days of "Taps" and "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and "Bad Boys," and watching the choices he's made over the years, both in front of the camera and occasionally behind it as well, I've remained impressed by his talent. Like many truly gifted people, though, he is capable of spectacular flame outs when they push themselves, and Penn has had his share of terrible moments onscreen. He's been let down by directors sometimes, but he's also made some big crazy choices that haven't...

Prison films can go either one of two ways. Option one sees the genre telling a tale of the indomitable human spirit that manages to triumph and find some sort of redemption through growth that could only be achieved in the characteristically hostile environment of the penal system. The second option sees man succumbing to his most savage instincts, satisfying the vicious circle of a system that tells people they’re animals thus causing them to act more inhumane with each passing day. Both speak volumes about the human condition and what we as a social species are capable of overcoming and what we are capable of doing to our fellow man at our worst. Bad Boys goes both directions at once by showing life within a juvenile detention facility where the prisoners in question aren’t so set in their criminal ways and still have a chance of turning...

The Stars: Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Allison Cratchley
The Plot: An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.
The Buzz: This film looks stunning. I’m excited to see it in IMAX 3D. With a cast of relative unknowns (save Richard Roxburgh of Moulin Rouge) the star of this one looks to be cinematographer Jules O’Loughlin.
This is S.O.P. as far as Hollywood marketing is concerned, but I’ve always been annoyed when production credits are used to dupe the cinematically challenged populace. This film is produced by James Cameron, not directed. Direction credits go to Alister Grierson, a relatively untested director; Sanctum being only his second feature,...

But Penn took the high road over the Labor Day holiday weekend, releasing a measured response to a harsh lyrical attack from former Fugees leader Wyclef Jean as the two continued their public sparring match over 'Clef's failed bid to run for the presidency of Haiti.
"Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti," read the statement, which was released by a spokesperson for Penn. "As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body's immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous."
