John Beasley, an actor best known for his roles on the TV shows ‘Everwood’ and ‘The Soul Man,’ died Tuesday at the age of 79.
Beasley’s son Mike shared the news of his father’s death on Facebook.
“Man…you know this is a part of life…but that doesn’t make it any easier,” Mike W. Beasley wrote above a photo of him and his father. “I lost my best friend today. They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father. Thank you for everything. I hope I made you proud. Love you more.”
The character actor died in a hospital in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, where he’d been undergoing tests on his liver before his condition unexpectedly worsened, Beasley’s son Tyrone told The Hollywood Reporter.

Veteran stuntwoman Cheryl Sanders was gunned down in Yellow Springs, Colorado Wednesday in an incident that also took the life of her husband.
Sanders, age 59, was a career stuntwoman, helping such actors as Jessica Alba, Sharon Stone, Brooke Shields, Kathleen Turner and Rene Russo in their films. She appeared in Back to the Future Part II, V.I. Warshawski, The Thomas Crown Affair and the Lethal Weapon series
The shootout that claimed her life took place outside a million-dollar home in Yellow Springs and involved a third person who has not been publicly identified by authorities.
The Dayton Daily News, the newspaper from Sanders’s hometown, said the unidentified man shot his ex-wife Sanders and her current husband, Robert Reed Sanders, 56, after they allegedly trespassed on his property.
So far, the ex-husband has not been charged with a crime. Police are investigating why the couple showed up and why they were armed,...

There were a lot of big question marks going into this year's Golden Globe Awards -- Who would take home the top prizes? What would people be wearing? Who knew she was pregnant? But one aspect of the awards show that was pretty much a given was that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were going to knock 'em dead in their sophomore outing as the awards show's hosts. The unnecessary cruelty of Ricky Gervais now in the distant past, this is the era of the friendly (but not toothless) female host.
And, for an awards show free of drama or pretty much anything else that could be classified as "interesting," it turns out that their surefire hilarity was the obvious highlight of the night. Almost every joke they delivered was a gut-buster, although it must be said that it would have been nice to see more of them. In the Ricky Gervais era,...

Live, from Beverly Hills, it’s the 71st Annual Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Lee Daniels’ The Butler Golden Globe Awards! And as you can see from the previous sentence, hosts Fey and Poehler are already proving why bringing them back to host was the best idea NBC’s had since the mid-’00s. Here are a few funny highlights; check back for an updated list of jokes as the night progresses.
Amy: “Congratulations to all the wonderful actors nominated tonight, from the amazing Chiwetel Ejiofer, to the stunning Lupita Nyong’o, to American treasure Tam Honks. …Damnit, I...

Hollywood.com goes for broke and pronounces the comic team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to be the best thing to come out of "Saturday Night Live," ever. Watch the history of the future Golden Globes co-hosts in motion.
We definitely need us a new "Fletch" movie, pronto. Upon the release of "Alex Cross" (based on the book series by James Patterson), Moviefone lists some book-to-screen adaptations that are in dire need of resurrection, from "The Talented Mr. Ripley" to "V.I. Warshawski."
No matter how you slice it, movie theaters haven’t been the same since Melissa McCarthy pooped in a sink. The Frisky celebrates the game-changing "Bridesmaids" with an intro to the next crop of female screenwriters who are likely to leave you in stitches and (possibly) tears.

Kathleen Turner Kathleen Turner, perhaps best remembered for seducing William Hurt in Lawrence Kasdan’s Body Heat and for romping about with Michael Douglas in Robert Zemeckis‘ Romancing the Stone, will be present on May 7 at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Bell Lightbox to discuss her career in films and on stage. Turner will be making her Toronto stage debut in Matthew Lombardo’s High at the Royal Alexandra Theatre from May 8–13. Turner, 58 next June, has appeared in nearly 30 features. In addition to the aforementioned two titles, her credits include Ken Russell’s Crimes of Passion, as a Belle de Jour-like sex worker; John Huston’s Oscar-nominated Prizzi’s Honor, as Jack Nicholson’s partner in crime; the Lewis Teague-directed Romancing the Stone sequel The Jewel of the Nile; Francis Ford Coppola’s Peggy Sue Got Married, which earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination; and Danny DeVito...

I love mothers; you love mothers. Perhaps not as much as Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake, but certainly enough to celebrate all the moms out there by assembling a list of some of the most memorable matriarchs in film history
Mommie Dearest
An obvious choice. Faye Dunaway portrays the real life Joan Crawford, who evidently was insanely disturbed. The source material was taken from Crawford’s adopted daughter Christina; a frequent victim of her mother’s abuse, such as having her hair hacked off while being laughed at maniacally.
Mother
Not the 1996 film starring Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds; instead check out the 2009 Korean title of the same name about a mom who must solve the murder of a young girl after her son is indicted for the crime. Kim Hye-ja, a veteran Korean actress, plays the part to perfection.
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
An amazing, eerie Spanish film from producer Guillermo del Toro.

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Bridesmaids – Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne
Priest – Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
Movie of the Week
Priest
The Stars: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
The Plot: A priest (Bettany) disobeys church law in order to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
The Buzz: I’ve got to be honest, I think this film looks horrible. It’s ‘Movie of the Week’ strictly as a path of least resistance. If I happen to have any regular readers out there, they’re certain to know that I’m not going anywhere near Bridesmaids, not even with a blindfold, and so Priest suddenly shines with promise — relatively speaking of course.
Priest continues director Scott Charles Stewart’s working affair with Paul Bettany (whom last teamed together on the unimpressive Legion). Bettany bugs me a bunch, anyone else? I’ve just never taken him well,...

The 1970s Virginia Slims cigarette promos boasted the slogan “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby” toward their femme demo and the same prideful adage can be applied to the female action hero who has broken ceilings at the cinema over the last 40 years.
In the wake of the body count left behind by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone in the ’80s and ‘90s, it’s often asked Who is the action hero of now?
As a fresh crop of actors make their mark in the genre, they become too pretentious about fully wearing the crown for fear of being pigeon-holed: Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel prefer to dabble in bullets.
If you’re holding out for a hero, “Salt” reminds us that our cinematic knight in shining armor wears a dress and her name is Angelina Jolie. Jolie doesn’t duck...
