The 77-year-old is known around the world for his role as the lovable father Heathcliff Huxtable on the long-running sitcom The Cosby Show, and for having a stand-up comedy career that spans five decades. Cosby has never been charged in any criminal case regarding any of these accusations, and through attorneys has repeatedly denied that any of the allegations are true. Cosby himself briefly addressed the claims, telling Florida Today, "I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn't have to answer to innuendos."

The Cookers: Believe (Motema)
I love this group for featuring Billy Harper, one of the most underrated tenor saxophonists and jazz composers on the scene. That said, it is pretty much an all-star band; the arguable exception, trumpeter David Weiss -- the youngest member -- is the arranger of all the non-Harper tracks on the band's third album, and thus puts as much of a stamp on the project as anyone. The other players are trumpeter Eddie Henderson, long a member of Harper's superb quintet; alto saxophonist Craig Handy, the second-youngest member, who used to have another band with Weiss (pop-culture aside: they also collaborated on the music for The Cosby Mysteries); and the ace rhythm section of pianist George Cables, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Billy Hart, all three of whom contribute compositions here.
(If I have a complaint, it's that after three albums, we still haven't...

20. Elvis Presley
The King of Rock and Roll's movie career is both the archetype and warning for every single performer on this list. "Love Me Tender," Presley's first of 33 films, made him a even bigger star than he was when it was released in 1956. But through the 1960s, the singer -- more specifically his manager Colonel Tom Parker -- favored quantity over quality, releasing a slew of critically panned films that watered down his once unshakeable sound. The worldwide celebrity continued yet the results were now unpredictable.
19. Janet Jackson
A perennial television star in the 1970s and '80s -- remember Willis' girlfriend Charlene from "Diff'rent Strokes?" -- Jackson made the transition to film in 1993 in John Singleton's "Poetic Justice," a romantic road trip film featuring Tupac Shakur. Singleton's follow-up to "Boyz n the Hood" was a surprise hit, though Jackson chose to focus primarily on her music through the next decade.

Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad are using their celebrity to boost the profile of Off-Broadway play "Through the Night" after signing on as 'artistic ambassadors' for the show. The Daniel Beaty play, about a number of characters who have an epiphany on the same evening, is scheduled to begin previews on September 10.
And producers hope to attract theater-goers to the show by enlisting Cosby and Rashad, along with actress Ruby Dee and actor Brian Stokes Mitchell, to make personal appearances and work on audience development activities. "Through the Night" is scheduled to open on September 26.
Bill Cosby is best known for starring in situation comedy series "The Cosby Show". After the hit show ended in 1992, the actor embarked on a number of other projects, including TV-movie "I Spy Returns", TV series "The Cosby Mysteries" as well as film feature "Fat Albert".

Rapper/actor/renaissance man Mos Def will be a regular on the HBO series Enlightened. Enlightened is a single-camera comedy starring Laura Dern as a self-destructive person who has a spiritual awakening, creating havoc in her home and work life. Mos Def will play her new boss when Dern’s character returns to work. This will be Mos Def’s first series regular gig since 1994’s short-lived series The Cosby Mysteries. Mos has appeared in several films and frequently appeared on Chapelle’s Show and My Wife and Kids.
I am excited about this news. Mos Def has always been one of the elite rapper/actors. Not many people are aware of this, but he begun acting in his teens in 1988, many years before starting a critically-acclaimed career in hip-hop. With Mos in the cast, I may have to take a look at this show.

Before he was Mos Def, he was Dante Bezé; that’s how he was credited as a regular on the short-lived NBC series The Cosby Mysteries, which ran from ‘94 to ‘95 – 4 years before he and Talib Kweli hooked up, and 5 years before his solo debut. Ya know, I’d forgotten all about The Cosby Mysteries; I don’t even recall watching it.
