Having spent 40 years in the movie business, Johnny Depp has a resume that would make anybody in Hollywood jealous. The 61-year-old boasts appearances in movies like Alice in Wonderland, Murder on the Orient Express, Black Mass, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street, Edward Scissorhands, and many more. However, Depp is most known for acting as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Depp’s excellence was undeniable in all five films that were made between 2003 and 2017. Who would ever forget the iconic Jack Sparrow, his epic sword fight scenes, and witty jokes? And surely, at some point, we all shipped him with Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann.

Tim Burton is one of our most distinctive filmmakers. Whether you love him, hate him, or land somewhere in the middle, there is no denying that Burton has a voice and that voice has become rather valuable. From proving that "Batman" could be an A-tier superhero franchise to producing undeniable classics like "Beetlejuice," he's been making his mark on cinema for decades. Burton's biggest moment came in 2010 when his live-action take on "Alice in Wonderland" hit theaters. Divisive though the movie may be, it made box office history at the time -- and what's more, it laid the groundwork for the next decade of blockbuster filmmaking in Hollywood, particularly at Disney.
In the modern era, a big blockbuster film making $1 billion or more at the box office is not all that uncommon. To date, 55 movies have made at least that much money worldwide. Rather crucially, though, the vast majority of...

One of the central villains in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" is the amoral hedonist Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, ruler of House Harkonnen and overseer of spice production on the planet Arrakis. In the novel, he is described as being so immensely fat that he required a suit of anti-gravity devices -- called suspensors -- to hoist his massive girth. The Baron is cruel, power-mad, and regularly has sex slaves sent to his quarters so that he may engage in sick acts of murderous coitus. Some have criticized the Baron as an example of fatphobia and, rather unfortunately, "queer villainy" in popular media.
In David Lynch's 1984 film adaptation of "Dune," the Baron was played by Kenneth McMillan, and Lynch made him all the more revolting by encrusting his face with oily carbuncles that produced shot glasses of black pus. McMillan was outfitted with a fat suit, although he was decidedly...

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise can easily be called one of the most beloved and successful series of all time. The entire cast is full of massively talented actors, and every single aspect of the series is well thought-out, especially when it comes to the first three films.
Pirates of the Caribbean [Credit: Walt Disney Studios]Having been known as one of the best trilogies out there, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End are certainly regarded as the better parts of the series. This is especially true for the third film, as many fans adore the final sequence of the movie.
With this, many audiences would be surprised to know that when the 2007 film went into production, its script wasn’t even finished.

Disney is apparently invested in keeping up with one of their most successful franchises, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with or without Johnny Depp at the helm.
When Disney decided to part ways with Depp at the height of the Amber Heard controversies, Reports soon emerged that they were looking forward to having an all-female led reboot starring ‘Barbie’s’ own Margot Robbie, but the idea didn’t take.
Now there are plans to bring Dune’s ‘Austin Butler’ onboard and fans can’t wait to see it. The downside? We might have to live with having Austin Butler have a pirate accent for the next five years or so.

Johnny Depp was a Hollywood royalty before it all came crumbling down in 2018. His ex-wife, Amber Heard, wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post titled: “Amber Heard: I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” The op-ed was the start of the end of Johnny Depp as we knew him, at least for a while.

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget the world is a beautiful place filled with unimaginable beauty and wonders beneath every shadow, racing riverbed, and endless sky. We need to remember how nature came first and what the world could look like if it were to retake its course. Thankfully, Dreamworks Animation‘s The Wild Robot trailer reminds us of Mother Nature’s grand and beguiling majesty, even if that vision is through the eyes of a character made of metal and wires.
The Wild Robot is an adaptation of Peter Brown’s award-winning #1 New York Times best-seller. The series has three books: The Wild Robot, The Wild Robot Escapes, and The Wild Robot Protects. The story follows a robot – Rozzum unit 7134, “Roz” for short – that becomes shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to its new surroundings to survive. Stellan Skarsgård is inevitably one of the most legendary personalities the entertainment industry could ever be gifted with. A remarkable actor, he has made sure to give a beyond-captivating performance in every single role ordained to him. Like his embodying of the ruthless Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in his recent project Dune: Part Two, which was nothing short of utterly commendable.

In fact, when it comes to his roles, Stellan Skarsgård doesn’t step back from taking risks if it means he can deliver the ultimate, essential performance required of the character — even if the risk is as great as his life. Stellan Skarsgard revealed that he was hesitant to star in Mamma Mia!, but once he realized he just had to “look cute and be silly,” he was all in.
The veteran actor recently admitted to Vanity Fair that he was initially taken aback when asked to be in the 2008 movie musical with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried because he can’t sing or dance.
“It was absurd to ask me to be in a musical,” Skarsgard said. “I can’t sing, I can’t dance. And then I saw it was also Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, and they can’t sing and dance either, so I felt a little safer there.”
In Mamma Mia!, Sophie (Seyfried) sets out to find her real father before her wedding day as her mother Donna (Streep) had been intimate with three men (Skarsgard, Brosnan and Firth), right before she got pregnant with Sophie.

Tom Hollander and Tom Holland may share 95% of a name, but what they don’t share is a massive Marvel paycheque.
While appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Tom Hollander revealed that he was once mistakenly sent a box-office bonus meant for Tom Holland. “People in the account’s department of my agency got confused. We were with the same agents briefly. And it was a terrible moment,” Hollander said. “I went to see my friend who was doing theater in England. I sat smugly in the audience just having done a BBC show for $30,000 … the interval came and I checked my email and I got one from the agency saying, ‘Payment slip for first box office bonus for ‘The Avengers.’”
Hollander was curious, but upon opening the email, he was left shaken by just how much it was. “It was an astonishing amount of money,” Hollander said. “It was not his salary.

Which Is The Highest Grossing Pirates Of The Caribbean Film? (Picture Credit: IMDb)

Johnny was ousted from Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise after its fifth installment, and there remain numerous rumors about his exit. The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Descent was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The decade comprised of the years 2000 to 2009 seems to be maligned by many horror fans as a bad period, a period where nothing good was released. Much like the decades before it when folks maligned the 1990s, 1980s, and now more recent movies, there was some bad stuff put out of course, but there were also a whole of good movies too. Some of them, like The Strangers in 2008, The House of the Devil in 2009, and Brotherhood of the Wolf in 2001 were excellent even. People often seem to paint the past in a better light and vilify the more recent eras when it comes to horror films. In 2005, plenty of horror films were released.

They may be rascals, and scoundrels, and villains, and knaves, but it’s impossible to say that pirates aren’t fun to watch — at least on screen. And of course, there is perhaps no pirate more famous in pop culture at this point than Jack Sparrow, the bumbling, drunken heart of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Known for never having a plan but somehow always ending up with one that works out, the unreasonably charming pirate was brought to life by Johnny Depp for five movies across nearly 15 years. In his journeys, he encountered the Kraken, Davy Jones, the Fountain of Youth, and even Poseidon’s trident.
But, if you’re here, you probably know all this. What you want to know is how to watch Sparrow and his pirate friends — including Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan — in all their swashbuckling glory.

“Barbie” is the latest film to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, a feat accomplished by only 52 other films in history. The oldest film on the list is Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” which didn’t crack the $1 billion mark until the film’s 20th anniversary re-release in 2013. The first film to ever crack $1 billion was James Cameron’s Oscar-winning “Titanic,” which still sits at #3 on the list with a whopping $2.2 billion. Cameron, of course, dominates the list with three films in the Top 5 including “Avatar,” still the highest-grossing film ever made.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has more films in the $1 billion club than any other franchise with 10, while Disney has more films on the list than any other studio with 24 thanks to Marvel, Pixar, “Star Wars” and Disney animation and live-action remakes.

Barbie and Oppenheimer continue their domination of the marketplace as they are poised to take in $51 million and $27 million respectively (per Deadline). For Barbie that third week number puts it above the first week of Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train which opened to $30 million on this weekend last year. By end of day Sunday, Barbie should be hovering around the $460 million mark at the domestic box office while worldwide numbers will possibly be over that billion dollar mark. That is quite impressive for any movie, let alone one based on an over 60 year old brand.
Oppenheimer is still dominating its IMAX screens and should see a weekend take at $27 million which would put the tale of the formation of the atomic bomb at around $230 million domestic and around $530 million worldwide. Again, quite impressive for any movie, let alone a 3-hour, R rated biopic. I just really hope this movie has the momentum into awards season.

"The Dragon Prince" has quickly grown into a clear spiritual successor to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," an animated show with a vast and complex world and mythology, as well as an epic scope that helped it become one of the best fantasy stories on TV, including live-action.
After the first three seasons told a complete chapter in the saga, ending with the start of a new era in the fantasy world of the show, season 4 jumped forward in time and kickstarted a new chapter. Dubbed the Mystery of Aaravos arc, most of that season was spent on table setting for the new status quo, the changed dynamics between elves and humans, and building up the show's primordial villain — the Archmage and Startouch Elf Aaravos.

Exclusive: Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken has a lot going for her.
For starters, says the film’s director Kirk DeMicco, “she’s a princess, a superhero” and the first female titular character for a DreamWorks Animation movie.
Of course, there have been female lead characters in DreamWorks animated pictures, “but this is the first time where we said the story really is hers,” adds co-director Faryn Pearl (Trolls World Tour). “We changed the title from The Gillmans to Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken because it felt that we really wanted to celebrate that it’s her story, it’s her journey. As the upcoming "Ahsoka" live-action series hovers on the horizon, the recent Star Wars Celebration announcement of Lars Mikkelsen taking up the blue make-up to reprise his legendary animated voice role in the full-bodied flesh sent waves of excitement through Star Wars fans. A main baddie for the final half of the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series created by Dave Filoni (showrunning again for "Ahsoka"), the ice-blue Chiss Admiral proved to be a formidable and terrifying threat to the Ghost crew. Mitth'raw'nuruodo's (Thrawn's Chiss name) epic (re)entrance into the public consciousness provided fond memories for Celebration attendees back in 2016, especially for the generation who grew up with the Legends novels that started with Timothy Zahn's 1991 "Heir to the Empire." That book kicked off an enduring Legends reign for Thrawn as an intelligent Imperial tactician who had no nonsense for Imperial stupidity.

For the first ten years of his career, Bill Nighy trod the boards in the U.K. He never saw a camera. He figured he’d be a theater actor for the rest of his life. In that time, just a few British stars were in the movies: Albert Finney, Michael Caine, Tom Courtenay, Peter O’Toole. “I was perfectly content,” he told me on Zoom. “I didn’t imagine I’d ever be on television particularly, or certainly not in a film. It was different times. My expectations were low, because I never expected to be an actor. And I never expected to be paid money for doing plays.”

Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc will be 16th film character to inspire multiple Golden Globe nominations
Nearly three decades into his acting career, Daniel Craig earned his first Golden Globe notice for his lead performance as eccentric detective Benoit Blanc in the 2019 mystery movie “Knives Out.” Although he was defeated in this Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor race by Taron Egerton (“Rocketman”), his portrayal of Blanc may still be honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association since the character’s story has now continued in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Even a nomination for the sequel would make him only the 16th performer to receive multiple Golden Globe mentions for playing a single film character.
Three years ago, Craig placed fourth in Gold Derby’s final Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor nominations predictions, and his “Glass Onion” performance puts him two spots higher on our current list. It feels like we as a society have sort of memory-holed just how popular the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise was during the 2000s. Those movies were pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars each, and there were five of them! That's so many! My parents owned a copy of "The Game of Life: Pirates of the Caribbean Edition" and none of us had even seen the movie!
I'm not too torn up about the series being forgotten in history, mostly because of star Johnny Depp's status as the internet darling of domestic abuse apologists. But the movies had some merit to them, even if they weren't exactly masterpieces. They were big and fun, with "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" shockingly being the movie with the highest budget, uh, ever? They spent a small nation's Gdp on the fourth movie of a franchise based on an amusement park ride.

Bill Nighy loves a good suit. Everyone knows that. It’s why there is little surprise in seeing him this afternoon sharply clad in a navy ensemble too dapper to be off-the-peg. It’s also why the actor’s sartorial style, already the topic of many an interview over the past two decades, comes low on the agenda of today’s conversation – and why then in our limited time, I can’t follow up when Nighy, as he walks me to the door, picks up the recorder, holds it to his mouth like a microphone and explains his penchant for formalwear in that signature deep drawl of his: “Because I hate my body.”
It’s not something you expect to hear from the famously charming 72-year-old who in Love Actually ripped off his leather trousers to reveal what Billy Connolly once praised as his “rock’n’roll legs”. The same...

This post contains spoilers for the third episode of "House of the Dragon."
The world of "A Song of Ice and Fire" has given us plenty of memorable characters, especially when it comes to villains. From Ramsay Bolton to Walder Frey, and from Cersei to Littlefinger, we've had no shortage of cool and despicable baddies in the world of "Game of Thrones." After all, this was the show that gave us the biggest little s*** in all of Westeros — Joffrey Baratheon.
Among the many things "House of the Dragon" is bringing back from the golden age of its parent show -- including compelling political intrigue and battle scenes you can actually see -- is more good villains. Sure, Daemon Targaryen is being framed as an antagonist, but he is nothing compared to the terrifying, enigmatic, captivating figure that is the Crabfeeder, the pirate that terrorized the Stepstones for three years.

Sunday Am Update: Blame the fact that it doesn’t appeal to girls, blame Disney+ for stealing family moviegoers, blame the lack of an ensemble Toy Story cast, heck, blame everything as Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear didn’t do its magic by internal studio or industry standards this weekend with 51M, close to a third below its lowest 70M pre-release projection.
This is an opening more in the vicinity of Pixar’s original fare, so it could still leg out to 200M+. However, given how this IP was built on the back of the Toy Story brand, it’s clear many were expecting significantly more. Lightyear overall was down in its global start, 85.6M versus the top-end 135M estimate we reported. In sum, there wasn’t any urgency for mass moviegoers to see Lightyear.
Universal/Amblin is calling Jurassic World Dominion at 58.66M, -60, and a 68M 4-day.

Bill Nighy (Love Actually) has been tapped to star opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris in Showtime’s The Man Who Fell To Earth drama series, based on the Walter Tevis novel and the cult classic 1976 film starring David Bowie. Nighy will take over the role played by Bowie in the film.
Showtime’s The Man Who Fell To Earth, which comes from Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet and John Hlavin, will follow a new alien character (Ejiofor) who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future.
Nighy will play the brilliant Thomas Newton, the first alien to arrive on earth over 40 years ago. Alone and desperate, Newton summons Faraday (Ejiofor) to complete his original mission. But Newton’s time marooned among human beings has cost him everything, possibly even his sanity.
The role marks a reunion for Nighy with both Ejiofor and Harris.

Warning: Spoilers for Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” in the waters ahead. You have been warned.
Disney’s latest adventure is a journey through dangerous waters, on the hunt for a magic treasure — but be wary of those immortal beings cursed by said treasure. They’re not to be trifled with, but don’t worry, you’ll have the help of a lovable rogue, who knows the ins and out of the cursed ones having been part of their crew, and he’s played one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
If you’re checking your calendar right now, no, it’s not 2003, and I’m not talking about “Pirates of the Caribbean.” I’m actually referring to “Jungle Cruise,” out in theaters and Disney+ with Premier Access now. But you can be forgiven for the mistake, because it sure feels an awful lot like the early 2000s hit...

Sacha Baron Cohen is comfortably in front in our Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor Golden Globe odds for his “Borat” follow-up “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” Very nice indeed. Even nicer: If he prevails, he’ll make some Golden Globe history.
A victory would mark Baron Cohen’s second in the category, following his win for the original “Borat,” which came out in 2006. He wouldn’t be the first to win the category twice, but he’d be the first to have multiple wins in the category for playing the same character.
It’s not surprising no one’s pulled off this feat yet since most films don’t have sequels and even fewer sequels are singled out for awards love. Robert Downey Jr. nabbed the Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor statuette for “Sherlock Holmes” (2009), but he...
