In the classic RPG genre, few titles are as beloved as Baldur’s Gate 2. Released in 2000, this game set the standard for RPGs and narrative-driven gameplay. From its memorable characters to its companion system, it was a delight to play.

However, Director James Ohlen revealed that during development, he was not happy with the companion system and to look for inspiration, he decided to check other games. The game that finally inspired him was Final Fantasy 7.

In an interview, James Ohlen stated that he was very dissatisfied with the depth of his game’s companionship. With the intense competition in the RPG genre, he knew that making memorable characters with engaging and intense stories would keep the players attached to the game.
