Nelson Xavier isn't related to Chico Xavier despite the same surname and both men were born in the same state, Minas Gerais. In fact, Nelson has said that before making this movie people would often confuse both of them and keep calling him as Chico Xavier, which he didn't like much. But when he read the book about Chico's life and the film script, he felt transformed by everything he knew about the medium and he decided to play the role of Chico in his later life.
Released in the same year as other Brazilian productions concerning Spiritism/Kardecism: Astral City: A Spiritual Journey (2010) (based on the works of the real life Chico Xavier), Miracle Hands (2010) and Written in the Stars (2010).
Christiane Torloni (Gloria) starred A Viagem (1994), inspired by Chico Xavier's work. Creator Ivani Ribeiro at first wanted to directly adapt one of Xavier's novels, but he suggested an original story that could explore Kardecist themes. She would then conceive A Viagem (1975). Both shows feature the heavenly realm which also inspired Astral City: A Spiritual Journey (2010).
