Exclusive: Korean animated film Yumi’s Cells: The Movie will be released on streaming platform Rakuten Viki on July 19, after a theatrical run at the domestic box office in April.

The Asian-content focused Rakuten Viki has unveiled a collaboration with Chinese video site Bilibili to bring Chinese animated series Mom, I’m Sorry and Rakshasa Street seasons 1-3 to its platform.

Yumi’s Cells: The Movie was adapted from the eponymous webtoon, which originally received an enormous 3.5 billion views. The webtoon also spawned two live action drama series titled Yumi’s Cells in 2021 and 2022, which are available on Rakuten Viki. Broadcast rights to the show were sold to more than 160 territories.

According to the Korean Film Council’s data, Yumi’s Cells: The Movie grossed around $445,000 from 76,500 admissions at the Korean box office in April.

She passed away in April at her home in Nashville at the age of 47.

Netflix has released the Top 10 viewing numbers for the week of February 13, and without any new high-profile releases last week, the charts mostly remained the same as last time. Penn Badgley’s series “You” and the Reese Withspoon-Ashton Kutcher rom-com “Your Place or Mine” did well again, the latter presumably helped by Valentine’s Day last Tuesday.

The fourth season of “You” ended up in the Top 10 in 88 countries with 64.1 million hours viewed, down from 92 million views its launch week with the first five episodes having 38 million views. The first and third seasons also continue to be watched with 22.4 million and 15.6 million hours, respectively.

A new report released by tech firm Akamai on Wednesday put the Warner Bros. monster mash-up on top, followed by “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” and “Black Widow” respectively. Two other super projects made the list, with James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” landing in the number six spot, and “Wonder Woman 1984” squeaking in at number eight.

Warner Bros.’ entire 2021 slate was released on HBO Max simultaneous with their theatrical release, but only in the U.S., which is likely why so many of those titles showed up on this list. The mad scramble by Asian streamers and broadcasters to secure Korean TV drama content continued with the announcement by Viu that it is poised to deliver another original series.

The Hong Kong-based pan-Asian streamer is poised to release period romantic drama “River Where the Moon Rises” on Feb. 15, 2021. In Korea, it will be broadcast by KBS2 from the same date.

“River Where the Moon Rises” is produced by established South Korean production house Victory Contents. The series is directed by Yun Sang Ho will direct from a screenplay by Han Ji Hoon.

The story is adapted from a section of the “On Dal” Korean folktale recorded in “The History of the Three Kingdoms,” tome some 900 years ago. It focuses on Princess Pyeonggang, who was raised as a soldier, and her romance with On Dal, the son of one of her generals. Lead roles go to Kim So Hyun (“Love Alarm...
