Pamela Anderson, the iconic bombshell and former Playboy model, gets a career resurgence in The Last Showgirl. At first look, it seems like a film tailored specifically for the actress, and it’s no surprise because she is actually the top choice for the lead role.
Credits: Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl / Roadside Attractions
In the movie, she plays a veteran performer in Las Vegas who finds out her show closes abruptly after a successful 30-year run. It’s a story of finding life and purpose in middle age and reconnecting with the important people in our lives.
Jamie Lee Curtis Channeled Pamela Anderson’s Baywatch Role
Apart from Pamela Anderson, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl also features Jamie Lee Curtis, who portrays the role of a waitress and former showgirl. The actress, also an Academy Award recipient, did not forget to show off her transformation when she attended their first table read.

There are two types of people who play with Legos: those are boundlessly creative, building by imagination unrestrained by how a machination is supposed to look, and others who strive for perfection, painstakingly ensuring that their design matches the instructions or their own personal design.
Lego Horizon Adventures (out Nov. 14) feels like a game made by the latter. A “Lego-fied” adaptation of the hit PlayStation game Horizon Zero Dawn (2017), its story is a kid-friendly send-up of the original game’s bleak sci-fi setting, but visually and mechanically, it...

One of Amazon’s highly anticipated upcoming projects is the Secret Level anthology series. This piece of adult animation is something that many fans are looking forward to, especially in light of the fact that it is being made by Tim Miller, known for his successful work on Deadpool, Terminator, Borderlands, and Love Death + Robots.
Miller is now back in the world of video games and adult animations with Secret Level, a series that is set to explore the world of video games in the form of different stories with a lot of star-level voice talent that is set to appear in the series.
Ahead of next month’s premiere, Amazon just released the official trailer for the upcoming series, and we can honestly say that the visuals are stunning and that we hope that Miller’s narrative idea will be on the same level as the animation, because if it happens like that,...

The major Hollywood studios skirted this weekend and held off on new releases, a decision that likely hedged against an uncertain national mood following the presidential election. Their absence is others’ gain though, as A24’s tricky thriller “Heretic” and Lionsgate’s seasonal play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” each look to make a solid impression in their opening weekends.
But it’s Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance” that continues to stay on top of domestic charts. After an underwhelming opening weekend, the “Spider-Man” spin-off has been putting up solid holds, turning in another one here. “The Last Dance” added $3.9 million on Friday, on its way to about $14 million for its third weekend of release. It has now notched $100 million in North America and will pass “Alien: Romulus” ($105 million), “If” ($111 million) and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” ($113 million) over the next few days to become the 14th-highest-grossing domestic release of the year.

In another quiet weekend for the box office, Sony/Columbia’s “Venom: The Last Dance” is cruising to a third No. 1 weekend with approximately $15 million grossed, topping newcomers “Heretic” from A24 and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company.
“The Last Dance” made $3.9 million on its third Friday and is projected to have a domestic total of $112.5 million, continuing its trajectory of finishing with a domestic and global total lower than the past two “Venom” films, but still theatrically profitable against its $120 million budget.
“Heretic” and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” are in a narrow race for the No. 2 spot. Currently, “Pageant” has the edge with a $5 million opening from 3,020 locations, putting it on track for a $10.7 million opening against a reported $20 million budget.

Jack Black has become something of a video game movie veteran lately. From voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie to bringing Claptrap to life in (the disastrous) Borderlands, and now gearing up for his role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Minecraft (why?), the actor seems determined to leave his mark on every major gaming adaptation in Hollywood.

But during a recent interview, Black expressed genuine surprise about one particular gaming franchise that hasn’t made the leap to the silver screen yet. The reason behind this particular franchise’s absence from Hollywood, as it turns out, is both fascinating and somewhat ironic.
And it all comes down to a decision made years ago by one of the gaming industry’s most influential figures.

We might never see GTA or Red Dead Redemption being adapted for screen. The same has been confirmed by Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick, who has potentially shut down all possibilities of us ever witnessing a GTA film.

It's been a difficult year for Lionsgate, but Borderlands stands out as the studio's biggest box office flop. Following a disastrous $9 million opening weekend, the movie concluded its month-long run at the box office with a dismal $31 million before limping on to Digital platforms.
With a production budget of $115 million and a $30 million marketing campaign - which saw fans of the hit series of games largely reject everything they were seeing - the studio has likely lost upwards of $114 million.
Lionsgate has now shared its second-quarter financial results (via GameFragger.com), singling out Borderlands as one of its biggest money-losers.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said, "Within our television Group, our unscripted business is feeling the effects of a continuing market correction. In our film group, the poor box office performance of Borderlands, coupled with softer-than-anticipated results for other releases in the quarter, reflected an environment with less margin for error than ever before.

The studio bosses overseeing Joker 2 and Borderlands have been talking about their respective box office disappointments.
2024 has seen a some big hit movies on the big screen, but also some sizeable swings that didn’t quite pay off. In Warner Bros’ corner, there’s the recent Joker sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux. For Lionsgate meanwhile, it uncharacteristically pumped over $100m into the videogame adaptation Borderlands.
It would be fair to say that neither struck box office gold.
We’re in the part of the financial cycle where bosses do earnings calls to talk through their more recent performance. Warner Bros Discovery boss and movie deleter David Zaslav was up first, in a widely-reported chat where he’s hoped that the results of the US election help allow big businesses to consolidate more.
“Inconsistency also remains an issue at our motion picture studio, as reinforced recently by the disappointing results...

The Lionsgate earnings call this afternoon would not have been proper without addressing the elephant in the room: the studio’s deal with AI research firm Runway.
Announced on September 18, it was a first-of-its-kind partnership between a major Hollywood studio and Runway, which would create and train a new AI model customized to the studio’s portfolio of film and television content. Eyebrows, of course, were raised. What did that mean? Keanu Reeves’ likeness used in perpetuity across John Wick movies until the end of time? Complete, 100% AI-generated movies?
Lionsgate Motion Picture Chair Adam Fogelson sought to calm any concerns when asked by an analyst about the studio’s use of AI under this new deal.
“There were some questions when it was reported,” the exec said. “Once we clarified for our filmmaking partners, for our talent partners, exactly what this was, how it would be used, what it is,...

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer was frank about the poor results of his studio at the box office recently, most notably “Borderlands,” which has shaped up to be one of the year’s biggest critical and commercial busts and led to the studio’s motion picture division generating a mere $2.6 million in profit for the quarter.
“Nearly everything that could go wrong did go wrong: it sat on the shelf for too long during the pandemic, and reshoots and rising interest rates took it outside the safety zone of our usual strict financial models,” Feltheimer said on an earnings call on Thursday.
Produced on a $120 million budget that was co-financed by Lionsgate with Avi Arad Productions, Picturestart, and 2K Games, “Borderlands” is an adaptation of the hit video game series of the same name and featured an ensemble cast that includes Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Ariana Greenblatt and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Borderlands was a genuine bomb. No doubt about it. The adaptation of the acclaimed video game franchise grossed just $33 million in theaters and was absolutely trashed by critics. During a recent earnings call, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer spoke about the epic failure of Borderlands.
“On Borderlands, nearly everything that could go wrong did go wrong: it sat on the shelf for too long during the pandemic, and reshoots and rising interest rates took it outside the safety zone of our usual strict financial models,” Feltheimer said. With a budget of around $120 million, Borderlands stands to lose the studio a lot of money. Although Lionsgate did mitigate some of the risks by selling foreign rights, sources told Deadline that Borderlands could still lose as much as $30 million. “The success of our financial models doesn’t take the place of also getting the creative right,” Feltheimer added

“Borderlands,” Lionsgate’s star-studded video game adaptation, is standing out as one of the biggest bombs at the box office this year. The film budgeted at $115 million earned just $32.9 million globally, a “disaster” for the studio considering the high hopes the studio had to turn into a franchise based on the game series’ huge popularity.
The performance of the film was so poor, Lionsgate could not ignore it during its earnings for the summer quarter.

“Borderlands,” “The Crow,” and other film flops deflated Lionsgate’s quarterly earnings, leading the movie and TV studio to report a loss of $163.3 million. It was a rough stretch that Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer attributed to “a transitional, disrupted and difficult year for our industry,” one that saw the studio dealing with the aftershocks from the actors and writers strikes of 2023 that brought the industry to a standstill. Feltheimer went on to bluntly characterize the financial results as “disappointing.”
Revenue for the film and TV studio topped out at $948.6 million, down 7% from $1.01 billion in the year-ago period. Lionsgate also reported an adjusted net loss attributable to shareholders of $102.5 million or 43 cents a share. The company beat Wall Street estimates, with analysts predicting that the company would post revenues of $921 million and earnings per share of 48 cents.

The results were “disappointing” and “underscores the need to adhere even more rigorously to the risk mitigated business models, slate diversification and strict financial discipline that have always served us well,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement after the company reported $948.6 million in overall revenue during its fiscal second quarter (Q2) of 2025, which coincides with calendar Q3 of 2024.
The results were something of a mixed bag for Lionsgate, which is still in the process of a prolonged effort to spin out its Starz business. Motion picture revenue increased to $407.1 million, while segment profit decreased to $2.6 million. On the television side, revenue increased to $416.6 million, while profit dipped to $24.4 million.

Lionsgate released its second quarter financial results that follow the spinoff of the media giant’s studio business into a separately traded stock earlier this year.
The studio, led by CEO Jon Feltheimer, shrunk its first quarter net loss to $177.8 million, compared to a year-earlier $887.9 million loss then due to the impact of non-cash goodwill and intangible asset write downs and restructuring charges in the media networks division.
Lionsgate is the studio behind John Wick, The Hunger Games and other movie franchises and Feltheimer during prepared remarks made to Wall Street analysts on an after-market conference call said the latest financials come amid “continued industry disruption, the lingering effects of last year’s strikes and a disappointing theatrical box office performance.”
During the latest financial quarter, Lionsgate saw overall revenue falling to $948.6 million, which compares to a year-earlier $1.01 billion. The latest financial frame beat an analyst consensus of $921 million for second quarter revenues.

A TV adaptation of EA’s best-selling sci-fi video game franchise “Mass Effect” is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
The project will be written and executive produced by Daniel Casey. Other executive producers include Karim Zreik under his Cedar Tree Productions banner’s overall deal, Ari Arad and EA’s Michael Gamble.
News of the TV series was first revealed back in 2021, but there had been no updates since then. There have also been various failed attempts to adapt the game into a feature film. Specific plot details for the upcoming series have not been disclosed.
The video game franchise depicts a distant future where humanity and several alien civilizations have colonized the galaxy using technology left behind by advanced precursor civilizations.
The first three games in the triology follow Commander Shepard, who attemps to save the Milky Way Galaxy from a race of ancient, hibernating machines known as the Reapers.

Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands is an adaptation of the popular video game series developed by Gearbox Software. Essentially an action thriller about a rag-tag gang of space mercenaries, it tries hard to generate Guardians of the Galaxy vibes, but is let down by a lack of chemistry between the cast, largely flat direction and a series of uninspired fight scenes.
The story centres on kick-ass bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett), who’s hired to find Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), the missing daughter of business tycoon Atlas, the richest and most powerful man in the universe. To do so, Lilith has to return to her home planet of Pandora, where she quickly finds Tina and discovers that she may be a long-prophesied...

Like a veteran high roller playing the odds, indie film execs crowding the new Vegas venue at the Palms Casino for this year’s American Film Market are hedging their bets. The independent film business, a risky proposal at the best of times, has becoming increasingly precarious with theatrical releases an all-or-nothing proposal — the jackpot of Longlegs versus the bust of Borderlands and Megalopolis — and buyers hesitant to place their chips on anything that doesn’t look like a sure thing.
For indie movies at the AFM, that means a doubling down on genre films, particularly horror and action, and a move away from drama and comedy titles, which are considered riskier bets internationally.
“People are really focused on genre, even some of the smaller international sales companies are boosting their genre slates,” notes one U.S. seller. “Success has become impossible to predict and everyone is looking for anything that has a built-in audience.

This year has been plagued by some pretty big box office bombs, from "Joker: Folie à Deux" utterly failing to meet the expectations set up by its predecessor to "Borderlands" flopping harder than a middle-aged gamer playing against 12-year-olds on "Fortnite." Now, at least one of the biggest box office flops of the year is getting a second life on Netflix.
"Harold and the Purple Crayon" is currently holding the number 5 spot on Netflix's top 10 streaming charts. The first feature film from Abel Tesfaye — Aka The Weeknd — has secured distribution and unveiled its title.
The film from director and writer Trey Edward Shults (“Waves”) is called “Hurry Up Tomorrow” and will be released in theaters by Lionsgate. The studio announced on Monday that it secured worldwide theatrical distribution rights for the film, though no release date has been announced yet.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is described as a suspenseful, psychological thriller and a musical opus, designed as an extension of The Weeknd’s next album of the same name (that too is awaiting a formal release date). The album will be a companion piece to the film’s actual score, which was composed by Tesfaye and Daniel Lopatin.
The film stars Tesfaye alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan and melds genres alongside its soundscapes. No synopsis was released.
Shults wrote and directed the film and is also an executive producer on the project.

Lionsgate’s genre-spanning 2024 slate of heist comedies, weepy coming-of-age tales, cheeky video game adaptations and horror stories was aiming to fill a void. Most of these were the kinds of movies that major Hollywood studios have either stopped making entirely or largely relegated to streaming services.
And yet, instead of packing seats at multiplexes due to pent-up demand, everything from director Eli Roth’s irreverent console-to-screen adventure “Borderlands” ($32 million globally), the “Crow” reboot ($23.7 million) and historical crime drama “1992” ($2.9 million) to Halle Berry’s post-apocalyptic horror story “Never Let Go” ($16.2 million), Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” ($5.9 million), Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic “Megalopolis” ($11.2 million) and “Wonder” prequel “White Bird” ($6.8 million) has sputtered at the box office. That’s a string of seven consecutive flops — each with paltry single-digit debuts — in the nine weeks between early August and mid-October.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" was both a hugely significant cultural moment and, depending on who you ask, a key moment in the arrival of a new cynical era for moviemaking in which pandering to fan expectations takes precedence above all else. The box office performance of "No Way Home" cemented Spider-Man as a cultural phenomenon for the ages, but with its multiple cameo appearances almost eclipsing the need for a coherent or affecting story, the film arguably walked so that a movie like "Deadpool & Wolverine" — dubbed a "soulless act of autofellatio" and "a prayer to corporate onanism" by /Film's Witney Seibold — could run.
That said, even the most skeptical critic would surely have a hard time claiming they didn't have a good time watching "No Way Home" at the theater. The film represents what I believe should be a blueprint for Marvel Studios moving forward: An event movie that you go to see once,...

God of War is one of the best and most popular video game franchises. Whoever played even one game from the series will say the same – it is absolutely spectacular. After going through the depths of Greek mythology, the authors sent Kratos to Scandinavia, where he had to face the horrors of the Norse pantheon.
A sequel is expected to be announced since both Nordic games performed exceptionally well. It may be set in Egypt. Additionally, fans of the franchise will likely enjoy a streaming series adaptation of the popular games. Amazon and Sony are collaborating on the series.
This was confirmed some time ago, and while we had some initial updates, it’s been a while since anyone commented on the series.
Now, we have a brand new and interesting update that is both good and bad, depending on how you approach the information we are going to provide you with.

Update: This past week, it was being said by sources close to Ballerina that John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, reshot most of the film without the original director, Len Wiseman. The production is now saying those claims are inaccurate. According to them (who contacted us directly), director Len Wiseman led the additional photography on set in Budapest with producer Chad Stahelski there to help in the creation of action design on the new scenes that would enhance the film and create bigger action sequences. As per usual procedure on films, Ballerina‘s reshoots were not out of the ordinary, and the process had taken place in less than a month.
According to our source, Chad Stahelski’s involvement in building upon key action sequences was important to Wiseman; Stahelski has been an enormous champion of Wiseman from the onset of pre-production and Wiseman is equally appreciative of Stahelski’s support...

Despite its somewhat wordy title, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is generating a great deal of excitement among action fans. The first trailer impressed and, following her memorable role in No Time to Die, this feels like the perfect project to cement Ana de Armas as a badass lead.
Underworld and Total Recall helmer Len Wiseman being tapped to direct raised eyebrows from the start given his hit-and-miss track record. Now, a new report from The Wrap (via ActioNewz.com) suggests he struggled to deliver on the John Wick franchise's promise of top-notch fight scenes.
The trade reveals that John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski was enlisted to reshoot the majority of Ballerina (explaining its release date delay). The filmmaker came on board to improve the action and, as a result, additional photography was extensive.
There's even chatter on social media that Stahelski could have a "Directed by" credit if he wanted.

The filmmakers behind the upcoming apocalyptic horror comedy film Rumours revealed how they balanced the movie’s comedy, and if they were inspired by any real-life political figures.
The upcoming movie, which stars Cate Blanchett (who recently starred in the not-so-well-received Borderlands film), gallows the seven leaders of world’s wealthiest democracies as they attend the annual G7 summit where they are drafting a big statement regarding a vague global crisis.
The situation gets even worse when all signs point to an apocalyptic event having occurred while they were off in isolation figuring out what to tell the world.

When the trailer for "Ballerina" arrived, it promised action sequences that actually looked like they could hold up against those of the "John Wick" movies. The spin-off film, from director Len Wiseman, is set between "John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum" and "John Wick: Chapter 4," and stars Ana de Armas as the titular assassin, who sets out for revenge against those that killed her family. Following the lifeless, joyless, and ultimately pointless return to the Wick-verse that was "The Continental," this latest spin-off isn't exactly a guaranteed hit — even with a confirmed Keanu Reeves cameo. But again, the trailer showcased some combat sequences that suggested Wiseman has successfully aped the unique action stylings of franchise director Chad Stahelski -- meaning, "Ballerina" might just deliver on the action front (at the least).
Now, we might finally know why the action in "Ballerina" looks as high-quality and uniquely Stahelskian as it does. In...

While much attention in the box office world has been on the catastrophic launch of Warner’s “Joker: Folie a Deux,” another new release this past weekend, “White Bird,” has deepened a two-month slump in theaters for distributor Lionsgate.
Beginning with the Eli Roth’s panned video game adaptation “Borderlands” in early August, the last six films from Lionsgate released in over 1,000 theaters each have grossed less than $50 million in the U.S. and Canada and have largely been critical busts. Eli Roth’s Borderlands film comes to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK this November – more on the release here.
After something akin to a crash and burn at the box office in August, Lionsgate will be hoping for better return when Borderlands gets its physical media release. It was quickly made available on video on demand services, but the studio has – and good on it – committed to a full physical media release for the film as well.
Directed by Eli Roth, the film is an adaptation of the videogame series, and it attracted quite a cast too. Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis are all part of the ensemble. No matter how hard our tech overlords try to convince us otherwise, when it comes to something like film, everything is subjective. But if we're going to live in a time when art is reduced to percentage scores and easily-digestible metrics are the only thing that makes navigating the endless sea of "content" on offer easier, then we might as well embrace our current moment and ask the question — what is the worst movie of all time? Of course, there is no definitive answer to this query, but that hasn't stopped Rotten Tomatoes from giving us its closest approximation.
Plenty of movies have earned a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, Jim Carrey's "Dark Crimes" being one example. But have you ever heard of "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever"? Me neither. But this 2002 action thriller, in which Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu face off as opposing agents, has managed to distinguish itself, though...

Based on her creative output over the last few years, it's genuinely astonishing that actress Ariana Greenblatt isn't even old enough to legally order a drink yet. Born in August 2007 in New York City to an industry family, Greenblatt booked her first big role in 2016 thanks to the Disney Channel original series "Stuck in the Middle," which cast her as Daphne Diaz — the youngest of seven kids, who still loves playing with dolls but is also pretty vindictive for such a little kid.
