1408 (2007)
It's a good easy film
I'll start with my rewatch from seeing this on prime then will chat about my surprise confusion at the end the film. 1408 is a good fun horror, it's nothing too heavy if you want something light to watch without having to pay too much attention. The story and acting are all round good, but don't be expecting to be jumping out your seat. Between my rewatch and original watch, not much changed in how I felt toward the film, it's one those films you can very easily watch.
Now for the confusion, I had this film on dvd back when it originally came out, so I saw a different ending version to the prime, which left me a little shocked, as I much preferred the version where Johns character dies in the room, rather than escaping the room which is what happened in the prime version.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
Well that happened
Go in with low expectations and I don't think you'll be disappointed, it honestly is what it is, the film is just stupid fun. Everything that happens could have been easily avoided by most the characters, they could have all survived if they didn't keep turning back, but then we would never have got this stupid fun film. The general plot is generic with a Winnie the Pooh addition, I almost felt if they'd gone in with more a paranormal approach or the dialogue or something was slightly better it could have been a true cult classic but instead I'm left feeling more of a guilty pleasure. I'm also left wishing a certain mr robin was bumped off at the start, which is what I thought happened when the start credits started up I thought the background comments said his body was found but then the plot and dialogue was at times a little choppy. Still all the same this was definitely a good guilty pleasure and will check out the sequel when that eventually lands.
Smile (2022)
Just keep smiling
"You can only smile for so long, after that it's just death. So smile a little."
Well that was much better than I was expecting, okay it's not exactly the most original concept but I still had a good time, enjoyed some good jump scares, plus made me laugh how much me and my mate kept betting who was going to get the curse, so clear it were.... Still wish some the other characters did get it like the bf or sister, or the son. He'd have been so funny! Creepy kid watching from the window, if there's ever a sequel, creepy kid needs to be lead or at least the opening kill haha.
Overly great cinematography, you can see it's taken influence from It Follows pretty heavily as well as the ring, but still no issue with that.
Great acting from the lead actress, thought she really did bring the terror.
Overall that was a Good Friday evening film to chill out to! Get yourself some popcorn and enjoy.
Resident Evil (2022)
I lost a bet!
This review is solely dedicated to my loose in midnight bowls 420, I lost 5 to 1. All hail the raining king of midnight bowls 420, Sir Cawstoner! Also this show is super bad, don't watch. As I need to add to my word count I'll give you some back story to our little game, we basically roll golf balls late at night on a golf course to see who can get a slam dunk, no lights, complete dark, no throwing just rolling from the edge of the green. I clearly need to glasses. Also again this show was bad! ................................................................................../.............................. ................................................................................../.............................. ................................................................................../....................................................................................... .......................................... ................................................................................../.............................. ................................................................................../................................................................................................................/....................................................................../......................................................./..............................
Ku bei (2021)
Just carnage
It's a good film, well made, the violence and gore are pretty intense, just wished it had been called crossed as the film is so heavily based on the comic, the only difference between the film and comic is the fact in the film the infected get black eyes and the comic a cross forms on the face. It's the closet we'll probably get to a crossed based film. Would really enjoy a follow up film if the option is there. This is not a film to recommend for people who don't like horror, this is pretty up there for extreme stuff going down, but if you enjoy intense violence this is a great film to watch.
The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
Thoroughly enjoyed.
Crack out the popcorn, set up the munches, have some drinks at the ready as once you engage this film fully you'll be engrossed, with such a wonderful slow burn that builds and builds to the point of no turning back, much like a good book if you hit that page you wish you could turn it back a page and stop there. So sit back and enjoy.
Voyagers (2021)
Below average movie
As everyone knows this films is very much lord of the flies in space, however where lord of the flies is just down right amazing, this movie falls short at every chance, the story just becomes so boring and dull.
So much so that I didn't realise I weren't paying attention, the acting is average, and that whole limitless camera pulling focus thing is just not giving anything to the film, it's just there as an effect only, we barely get to develop any characters outside the short time we spend with them, more time should have been spent in the ship with the adult children than on earth as earth really served no purpose.
The film felt overall weak, whereas the trailer paints this amazing concept and gives you an idea of what could have been rather than what was. Sadly this film will hold no lasting impact and be soon forgotten. I'd strongly recommend a very strong coffee to get through this movie if you are to actually watch it.
The Divide (2011)
One intense popcorn flick
Well damn that one got intense, can't believe I hadn't seen this film before now, it is well worth checking out, if your looking for a gripping thrill ride. Just like with every film, this has its ups and down, but that doesn't draw away from the enjoyment. With a group of somewhat strangers trapped together for however long, as they each slowly die from the fallout, each having to change in the face of this new world, some evolving to learn how everything works and others descending into madness / jealousy / or paranoia. Definitely worth checking out, just make sure to bring a big old bucket of popcorn and plenty of pop as you won't want to leave.
Invincible (2021)
Awesome fun!!
Hell to the yes, so far off to a very strong start, some nice changes to the source material (These aren't major changes more rearranging of events), I would recommend giving this a try, the animation is fantastic, an all star cast of actors, and an awesome eventful story, I look forward to seeing where the show will take us. And if you haven't read the source material maybe watching this will get you interested. Sit back and enjoy, just don't forget the popcorn!
Update from s01 finale, just wow, that was an awesome, adrenaline fuelled first series, I can not wait for the next instalment, bring on Conquest!!! If you haven't read the comics I won't spoil what is next to come.
This show has to be one of my new favourites out there, great story, great voice actors, awesome animation and wow the carnage is just top level. Had me on the edge my seat, jumping in the air for excitement. Also loving the little additions to the story and the alterations to the source material. If you haven't seen this yet, check it out, well worth the watch, just make sure your got plenty of munches around as you won't want to leave.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
"Oh hidy-ho officer, We've had a doozy of a day"
What a wonderful, light hearted, enjoyable movie, with a great cast and a great story, you'll find yourself in stitches at the scenarios in this movie. How some the characters end up dying is just priceless, and our Tucker and Dale justifying what is going on as logically as they can. I just loved tucker and dale, the actors are just amazing, and seeing Alan in any project is always a welcome delight. A strong recommendation if your looking for a good flick to check out, get some good popcorn in, sit back and enjoy!
Wrong Turn (2021)
"If your off to the woods today, your sure of a big surprise"
But this was no teddy bear picnic for anyone in the woods today.
Where to start, because certainly this film was a mixed bag, you've got some truly gruesome scenes, but the in between scenes do get a little slow, though this reboot does give a new take on the original franchise, replacing inbred hillbilly's with the foundation, who are basically a cult from pre civil war. The film was certainly enjoyable but the moments where the film kinda stalls has made me reflect more over the film itself. I would probably recommend this film as really for a horror film and for being a new take on the wrong turn series it definitely lived up to these points, but what bothered me were the slow points and the ending bit with the dream like sequence, if we'd cut the dream sequence before the actual ending I would have been happy. I would definitely have to say this reboot was welcome, I'm torn however over the star rating, whether a 6 or a 5.5, these are the moments I wish half stars were an option. Still all the same I would say to fans to check it out, see for yourself, and enjoy, have some popcorn kick back to a good horror.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Cosmic Sin Bin
I get the concept but the overall end result is a confusing mess, and the enemies well I guess the power ranges villains needed some work. The first act okay not great but works, act two is confusing as to where they go after the discovery, why is there an epic battle going on in orbit, did I miss something because just a few scenes before hand people were talking about first contact, and having those weird people coming back from the event, but why then do we go to this planet where a space battle is taking place... I hadn't heard anywhere that a full on conflict had erupted on this planet, and didn't really get whether this was the planet from where we first encounter the aliens... act 3 doesn't really exist, what was the whole thing with Bruce Willis on the space ship, somehow hanging on while taking off leaving the planets orbit... and then the chat in space on top the ship... I'm leaving the film so confused haha. If your looking for a fun bad film that you get to laugh at how bad the film is check this out, it will leave you scratching you head to work out the missing plot points and the questionable dialog, you can almost feel and tell where the film should have gone, definitely one to watch after a good smoke 🌳
Boss Level (2020)
Awesome fun
Thoroughly enjoyed this action flick, if your looking for a bit of fun, good action, and enjoy "groundhog day" style story this is worth checking out. Some wonderful little one liners, and a sense of enjoyment from frank grillo in the leading role, frank seems to be having a great time in the role. Get some popcorn, and some fizzy in, sit back and enjoy.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Super happy fun room lol
The film is thoroughly enjoyable, it's far from being an amazing film, but take it at what it is, and nic cage doing the cage effect! A good way to kill 90 odd minutes, I did have myself a few chuckles throughout, don't expect a plot or anything haha, just enjoy another great nic cage experience. Get some good popcorn in, and something to drink and enjoy!
The Taking (2014)
Copy & Paste
The film felt as if it had been copied from several found footage films, or more over several other horror films, there didn't feel to be any originality here. The predictable ness is a sad let down for the movie, you can guess where the story is going, where the jump scares are coming from, even the so called twists are clear as day well before they even happen. Put that aside the film is well made on pair with other found footage style films, this one is no different, the acting in parts is questionable but overall you can still enjoy. There is a weird kinda feeling toward the end as if it feels like the film is constantly about to end but just doesn't and keeps managing to limp on with this broken story and no real momentum. In the end I do believe only 1 person actually dies, I believe this was the police officer, as somehow this demon is just not interested in killing, I know we don't learn the final fate of the neighbour but you can assume he lived, so double disappointment with the low body count! Overall pretty average film, in conclusion there's sadly just nothing original about this film but you can still watch it if your a horror fan.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Mismatch of three plots in one
Where to begin? firstly let's look at the issue with the three plots running throughout the film, we spend the majority of the film in the gun turret, a full 50 minutes of the run time is spend inside the turret, incredible dull, with some the most annoying and completely pointless dialog which has no impact or development on the overall story, during this time we have the reveal that the secret package is in fact a baby, fair enough but I'm confused as to why this would be happening, why a bomber plane, were there not other safer options to get home? Ignoring that point and moving on... we have the annoying weird cut scenes to other characters, how to best describe this scene is when the other characters are "introduced" we jump to a black background with the character stood in a weird blue/green/red light, not a clue as to why we didn't just cut to the characters on the plane. All this time we are still inside the gun turret, so plot one is just the secret mission which turns out to be the baby, plot point two is the creature attacking the plane. What is the creature, what is its purpose, why is it attacking, why is it sabotaging the plane, not 100% sure to the reason behind the creature, I guess it's to draw up some excitement while we spend 50 minutes in the turret, but ignoring the endless issues about the creature we can move (or more skip to) onto the third plot the fact this is war times and the crew are flying somewhere near or not near Japanese forces, no clue as to where as we don't really get much information besides saying enemy forces aren't flying this far, as to where this is no clue. Now we've spent 50 minutes of the 1 hour 20 minute run in this turret, we've had these three plots randomly happen during this time, with an awful amount of time putting up with the worst dialog! After 50 minutes other characters are starting to spot the creature on the plane, seeing it rip apart the engines, with ease, and then for whatever reason it stops taking out the plane... the creature manages to get ahold the child in its briefcase and leaves it hanging off the side the broken engine. This is the moment we finally leave the turret for Chloe's character to break all the rules, the unforgettable scene which Chloe's character climbs easily upside down on this failing plane while flying, she climbs across the under parts of the plane to get the child back from hanging on that tiny bit of metal, if you ignore the fact the child doesn't fall out the bag, doesn't get hurt during this whole experience, and forget any laws of physics, this scene still doesn't make sense. All the while the creature has disappeared, we return to the war aspect with enemy planes easily shooting the location where Chloes character is hung or climbing whatever you want to call this, so we eventually make it back inside (FYI the turret at this point has fallen off) once back inside several characters have at some point died, we finally see the other characters on the plane. Skipping over the pointless fight with the creature mixed with the fighter planes several characters are just killed off, eventually the plane does this bonkers action where they have this idea to flip the plane upside down to flip it back and save the day... so they of course crash land, we have the final show down this the creature, but the attacking planes are somehow all dealt with. Forgetting the attacking planes and focusing on the creature, what is this creatures obsession with the child, why does it keep taking the baby and not kill the child or eat... in that final showdown, the bat like creature is for some reason afraid so attempts to run away but is then punched over and over again, all the while completely forgotten the fact the bat thing has massive claws it doesn't use... once it's dead, the film kinda just wraps things up and ends... the overall story seems to constantly flick between these three plot points, there's no character development or interaction beyond that annoying dialog exchange, we spend much the run time in the same location, there's no really comment on the editing or much else as the film is very limited, when you do get more verity in the scene the editing does then highlight as an issue with the quick jumps making some action moments hard to follow, camera angles weren't the best, honestly you could go on and on with the issues surround this film, I would like to find out the budget just out of interest, if your honestly wanting to watch this film it can be found for free on YouTube (if not been taken down - at time of review full film is available) but I personally wouldn't recommend unless you want to enjoy a bad film, it's such a shame the film falls completely flat as there could have been a great story to tell, why not look at true stories where women were involved in the war, there were so many better options to tell some great stories than this rubbish, it's listed as a Action, horror war film, the action is limited to the war aspect of the enemy planes, the horror is very very limited to the creature, and of course the war is just literally the war time period and enemy planes, the trailer is a complete lie. Good luck to you if you pain yourself through this experience, I honestly am disappointed as there really could have been a great strong female character story set in war times, instead were left with this...
An additionally point I wish to make regarding the very start, firstly why did the plane land so briefly to be taking of within moments, there wasn't enough time to refuel, also did the plane make an extremely hard u turn without any aid, and pull up behind Chloe with ease, what was the point in the supernatural disappearing act by the person on the runway.... then if this was a secret mission that Chloe was on why would there be one character acting like such a prick about it, if you got orders that clearly state top priority mission you follow the orders. Also was the near miss meant to build some tension as it doesn't.
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
Great fun
Awesome bit of fun, if your looking for some kinda bonkers weird horror series to do with these demon-like monsters, this would be something to check out. The characters are enjoyable, fun, and silly. The story is much in the same vain, it's enjoyable, silly, fun, great horror, very reminiscent of Tokyo Gore Police. Soundtrack did make me chuckle, I wander how much "Warriors" by imagine dragon costed, we had a fun little bet going as to when it was going to be played. I can't wait for a second season!!!
Boardwalk Empire (2010)
Bullets and heads will role
This show has to be one of my personal favourites, I would always recommend people to check out.
In terms of the show itself, you've got an awesome cast of great actors, with some the most beautiful cinematography, and hands down the story is just fantastic. You've got historical true elements mixed of course with fictional aspects, more so on the fictional side but it's just amazing to see these actors play out some the most iconic historic mobsters, Stephen Graham as Al Capone is just amazing, one my top favourite actors to see on screen.
And ultimately one the best endings to a show, with no spoilers the story comes full circle, with a satisfying end.
Phoenix Forgotten (2017)
A good hidden gem
Not a bad film, found it enjoyable, the story was well laid out, for a low budget film I would recommend checking this film out. A good interesting found footage story, worth checking out for sci fi horror fans.
Piranha 3DD (2012)
A required film was missing
That was shocking, all those that couldn't get out the pool well... this was meant to be a piranha film but where were they at? There was no logic to this film. Don't put yourself through the pain of watching this film.
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Please send it back from once it came!
Has to be the worst film ever made, nothing makes actually sense, the filming, framing, style, tone filters, audio, editing, just about everything in this film is horrendous. 2.5 is too high for this film, this is the moment you wished a negative would pop up magically so you could push it further down.
The New Mutants (2020)
A required film is missing!!!!
Ive spent much of today after watching the film just last night, trying to come up with positives to this film, unfortunately there is none I can think of, the movie has a number of big issues, firstly the constant delays to the film where I had heard reshoots were meant to be taking place. This was not the case. Then you have the actors issue, the actors consistently change accents, or their appearance change much like the blonde character one moment having hair buns then the very next seen it changed... the editing is completely off, and at best feels like a mismatch of scenes put together with no flow. When the characters start to go on about strange things happening and they all somehow know what each person is talking about makes no sense as at that point two of the characters had a single moment something happened... no character development really, plots just randomly thrown in and never revisited. Then there's the very very misleading trailer that paints a completely different film, I have no idea if the footage in the trailer was part of the very original cut or one the later cuts, I believe one the main reasons the film is such a mess is partly down to the constant push backs, that and the terrible mess of a plot (If it can be called a plot). The issues I mentioned early with the accents was a big part of the film, as the characters begin a dialog but it's very noticeable the accent is dropped or forgotten completely. What makes that worse is it's not just one character, it's basically all of them. In addition the CG work and other effects are just down right poor, the bear at the end is constantly changing size and shape, one angle the bear appears huge on the face angle but then shifting further away at a side angle somehow has become so much smaller than when it was attacking the building where it clearly towering 2 or so floors... I wish I could find some redeeming quality to this film, the New Mutants end result was such a mess you could hardly call it a film, there was no horror aspect like seen in the trailer, I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone, it's a skip, 5.5 is far too generous. The concept had potential, if executed right.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond: The Tyger and the Lamb (2020)
Felix does a magic trick lol
Did anyone spot the best editing mistake that was the highlight of the whole episode, and I couldn't stop laughing. Felix is clearly stood behind the chair where the girl character is sat, cuts away to another character, when it cuts back, felix has pulled one hell of a trick and moved now stood clearly away from the desk, not even close to where he was. And the lad in the background can't seem to remember whether he was leaning, sat against the side or maybe even standing at one point lol. I have to wonder if the editor knew the mistake was there or a proper rush job...
The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)
"I'm not even mad Cole" haha
This is a great follow up, this film like the first is full of great one liners, and the murders are just as amusing. The characters/cast are fun and enjoyable. You really get the feeling everyone is having a great time on set. Would recommend people to check it out if your looking for a bit of fun and nothing serious.
Workaholics (2011)
Ended too soon!
If you're looking for a fun, enjoyable stoner comedy, this is a great show, three best friends living together and just getting up to random shenanigans, supported with a great cast of actors, 7 great seasons and could have easily continued.
