     Harold Arthur Watkinson, 1st Viscount Watkinson was born on 25 January 1910.1 He was the son of Arthur Gill Watkinson and Mary Casey.2 He married Vera Langmead, daughter of John Langmead, on 18 November 1939.1,2 He died on 19 December 1995 at age 85.1
     He was educated at King's College London, London, England.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.2 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Surrey, Woking Division between 1950 and 1964.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1955.2 He held the office of Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation between 1955 and 1959.2 He held the office of Minister of Defence between 1959 and 1962.2 He was awarded the Companion of Honour (C.H.) in 1962.2 He was created 1st Viscount Watkinson, of Woking, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 26 June 1964.2

     From 18 November 1939, her married name became Watkinson.1 After her marriage, Vera Langmead was styled as Viscountess Watkinson on 26 June 1964.
