Leon (Lav) Rupnik

( 1880 - 1946 )

Biography

Born on 10th August 1880 in Lokvama near today's Nova Gorica in Slovenia then Austro-Hungarian monarchy. From 1st September 1895 to 18th August 1899 studies at infantry cadet school in Trieste after which he receives rank of Junior 2nd Lieutenant. Continues at War school in Vienna from 1905 to 1907 and form 1901 to 1902 serves in 15th Engineer Battalion (Pionierbataillon Nr.15 in which 92% were Croats and Serbs) in Klosterneuburg for specialization as engineer officer in infantry.

After World War 1 he was admitted to Yugoslav army on 21st May 1919 in rank of active staff major.

After declaration of Independent State of Croatia (NDH) left Yugoslav army and as civilian staid with retried colonel Lulic. Left Zagreb by train on 17 April for Slovenia.
