The Muslim Vote organisation has caused controversy within the community by endorsing four Labour candidates – Naz Shah, Apsana Begum, Afzal Khan and Yasmin Qureshi – in the upcoming General Election.
After a significant backlash from Muslims online over the decision, The Muslim Vote released a statement saying” “If this election is primarily about the ceasefire, then just as much as we should punish those who did not vote for it, we should support those who did.”
Critics, however, say the organisation has undermined its credibility to endorse candidates by sending out mixed messages over the extent to which the community should support a Labour Party which is complicity in the Gaza genocide.
