Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 6.98% or 3.07 points to trade at 47.04 at the close. BELLUS Health Inc. (TSX:BLU) added 4.46% or 0.54 points to end at 12.64 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 4.39% or 2.16 points to 51.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which lost 8.70% or 0.40 points to trade at 4.20 in late trade. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) declined 7.45% or 0.35 points to end at 4.35 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) shed 6.88% or 0.87 points to 11.78.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 694 to 335 and 84 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.57% to 16.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.82% or 14.35 to $1,739.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.45% or 0.34 to hit $76.62 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.49% or 0.41 to trade at $83.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.87% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.31% to 0.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 106.62.
