English: Uchiwa is a non-folding fan with a handle. Its structure mimics the structure of a leaf: numerous fine spines split from the handle are spread apart and support the back and front sheets. With wooden or bamboo, a girdle piercing the handle and curving along the edges of the fan gives extra support to the structure. Common materials for the handle and spines is bamboo, wood, or plastic; the sheets paper or plastic. It is a common advertising give-away.
