Background
[edit]Define my goals. My main interest with videos on Commons involves converting formats for technical videos. Specially, changing animated GIFs for antenna propogration waves into videos.
If you are starting and need help, try posting a description of your project with your expected outcomes and goals at the Commons:Village_pump. Maybe ask for a mentor from someone at the Video + sound workshop

[edit]Convert GIF to WEBM
[edit]My first contribution to convert from dipole transmitting antenna propagation as animated GIF to video. Method was to use a webm container with V8 encoding:
-
Two pulses of energy over 9.3 seconds (12 fps)
-
Continuous pulses of energy over 4 seconds (12 fps)
Notes
[edit]- There is a common stumbling block with taking videos and getting them to work on Wikimedia. The encoding with non-free codecs. Wiki only supports free codecs. Many videos use non-free ones like H.264 (CHECK) which needs to be converted.
Tools
[edit]- Commons:Flickr2Commons ingest from Flickr, What codecs does it support?
