I am a structural geologist based in the UK. I did a Masters on the Fracture Mechanics of quartz and a PhD on the formation of shear zones. I continued doing research, particularly on the Devonian basins of Norway and Scotland, until my funding ran out. I started doing consulting work while waiting for that elusive permanent university post to come along. 35 years later I'm still consulting, although it would be more accurate to say that I'm semi-retired. I've worked mainly on nuclear waste disposal problems and for the oil industry, so no environmental issues at all.

I started contributing to Wikipedia in July 2006, concentrating on adding content to structural geology . I started on Wikimedia Commons in March 2008, although I've mainly created content on Wikipedia, I continue to add my own images to Commons as the mood takes me. Most of my images are related to geology, the natural world or occasionally architecture.
