1887 – Michigan Central Railroad opens a new station in Dexter, Michigan.^[1]
1897 – After a month of repairs following its first day of operation, the Glasgow Subway reopens for regular service.^[2]

1923 – Canadian National Railway gains control of Grand Trunk Railway.^[3]
1947 – The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad inaugurates the Cincinnatian passenger train between Baltimore, Maryland, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
1970 – Passenger service on what will become the RER A line in Paris is inaugurated between La Défense and Charles de Gaulle - Étoile stations.
1990 – Canadian National Railway spins off track between Moncton, New Brunswick, and Mont-Joli, Quebec to the New Brunswick East Coast Railway and the Matapedia Railway.^[3]
1996 – Union Pacific Railroad announces its intention to sell the Colony Line in South Dakota and Wyoming to the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad.^[4]

2006 – Canadian National Railway re-acquires the Central Western Railway, Lakeland and Waterways Railway and Mackenzie Northern Railway from RailAmerica.^[3]

1949 – David Laney, chairman of the board of directors for Amtrak 2003–2007,^[5] is born.
