A fact from Golani Brigade appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 15 December 2009 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
|
Withdrawal
edit"The results of this operation are still contested and the number of casualties has not been confirmed by officials, although for now Golani has been forced to withdraw."
This statement is at best a POV. In fact, the Golani Brigade have been shifted to other towns in Southern Lebanon. There is no evidence that Golani were "forced" to withdraw, since the Israeli strategy of relieving brigades by rotation would best desribe why Golani are not operating in Bint Jbail.

editOK, fair enough, but I was trying at least to get some more up to date info into this article, as well as material that was actually sourced and referred to specific events, rather than just being vague (and occasionally macho) assertion about Golani soldiers being "excellent warriors" or "well known for lax discipline". As I've asked on the Givati page, hopefully someone will step up and take on the task of dealing with those problems in a more comprehensive way than I've managed so far. Building up from odd pieces of news can sometimes help with that, sometimes not. --Nickhh (talk) 19:32, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- TBH, I wasn't sure whether to revert. The article certainly needs work. Golani actually has a long tradition of rebellions, so mentioning a recent one just because it shows up on Google is somewhat of a recentism. Same for the other piece of information, since there's no real account of their combat history. Cheers, Nudve (talk) 19:37, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- No worries, I think the problem was that I'm not really sure where to start with that work (or even if I want to do it) so just made a tentative stab at kicking it off. I keep looking at it and thinking - someone needs to delete the whole thing and just start again. But I'm certainly not going to try that of course ... --Nickhh (talk) 19:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, you're probably right :) -- Nudve (talk) 19:52, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Transliteration typo
editI'm not sure how to do this, since I'm just a regular user, not an editor.
I just wanted to let you know that, at the very top of the Golani Brigade article, the transliteration of the Hebrew name for the Golani Brigade is incorrect.
Right now, it's "Htybat Givlany", which makes no sense.
It should be "H̱ativat Golani" or "H̱ativat Golani" (or whatever styling you use).
Or maybe it should be "Ḥativat Golani" or "Ḥativat Golani".
I don't know which exact transliteration style Wikipedia uses, but I noticed that the default Hebrew transliteration is the Sephardic style, not the Simplified Modern Israeli style (which would spell it as "Chativat Golani").
Anyways, it's a very simple typo. I hope someone can take care of this, since I don't have any editing permissions for this article and since I generally have no idea how Wikipedia works behind-the-scenes. Thank you! Daniel Kryzhanovski (talk) 19:57, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
