Clan Chattan article no page numbers Tag

edit

Hi, I have added a Tag to the top of the Clan Chattan article because all of the book references you have added do not have page numbers. It is important to add page numbers not only to keep the article to a good standard but so that readers can verify the information in the books being quoted. This is what Wikipedia is about. Thank you. QuintusPetillius (talk) 19:28, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mentor. In a ideal world that would be brilliant, however some sources comes with different page numbers, for example if you compare electronic or print versions of the same information. Similarly if you compare the same source information but housed in different university archives. Where possible I cite the page as well. Thank you for your kind advice. Your note on my talk page

edit

Just wanted to drop a quick line to second the reply from @Lunar-akaunto that the most probably explanation is that editing on the page is restricted to auto-confirmed users. You will need to be logged in to your account to edit there. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also as a friendly FYI, please do not publicly reveal the IP address you are editing from as this can be used by persons with malicious intent. For your safety I am going to revdel your message on my talk page so it will not be visible. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:26, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

The content I removed is actually from this website, where it has been present since at least 2001 according to the Wayback Machine. So we can't keep it; it's copyright. Sorry, — Diannaa (talk) 12:17, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Diana
No I went to the original source material, a book on Scots Clans from the 1800s. Scots Electric must have also source it form there. Please look at the reference I gave and revert. Caracal Rooikat (talk) 12:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Diana

No I still do not agree with what you just did. The Book is more than 120 year old, You removed referenced paragraphs without checking: Please revert:

The Highland CLANS of Scotland: Their History and "Traditions. By George Eyre-Todd With an Introduction by A. M. Mackintosh with one hundred and twenty two illustrations, including reproductions and celebrated paintings of the paintings and costumes of the clans volume 2 A D. Appleton and Company New York MCMXXIII

I am still currently investigating. Please stop editing the article while I do so. I am trying to figure out the best way to reintroduce the removed material and how much revision deletion I should undo. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 12:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have restored the material. Sorry for the mistake. In the future, please add attribution when copying from public domain sources: simply add the template {{source-attribution}} after your citation. I have done so for this article. Please do this in the future so that our readers will be aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself, and that it's okay to copy verbatim. Since so much content has been copied and re-copied all over the Internet, it's also very useful to patrollers such as myself and helps prevent mistakes such as mine.
Also, we will need a citation for each paragraph so people can tell what's copied from where. I have given names to the citation to make it easy for you to do that. — Diannaa (talk) 12:52, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Diannaa, always nice to learn from a pro.
Kind regards Caracal Rooikat (talk) 15:52, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
