Control copyright icon Hello Vitcomms! Your additions to Victorian Institute of Teaching have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. DanCherek (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

requesting to be unblocked as we are a government regulator, we are not a for-profit business selling goods or services. We understand that we were blocked for including too many back links to our site, which looked like promotion. We do not promote our work. Teachers in the state of Victoria, Australia must be registered with us, and must contact us to obtain registration. In future, we will not include embedded links.

Decline reason:

Your choice of new username is worse, please read the username policy. Accounts are for individuals, not organizations. Wikipedia treats non profits or government agencies no differently than for-profit organizations. Wikipedia is not a place for organizations to tell the world about themselves and what they do- nor is it acceptable to place the contents of your website here. The main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources choose to say about an organization(or any topic, like your Prime Minister). Please read conflict of interest and paid editing and tell us how your future contributions will differ from your prior ones, as well as what edits you might make as a general contributor so we can judge your understanding of relevant Wikipedia policies- you won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your organization; if that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:19, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @331dot. We've taken the time to review the policies. Instead, we would like to request an edit.
The page currently says "The Institute registers teachers working in all schools in Victoria." and, if possible, we would like this updated to "The Institute registers teachers and early childhood teachers working in schools and early childhood settings in Victoria." The reason for this is, as it currently reads, early childhood teachers would most likely perceive that registration doesn't apply to them when it is a non-negotiable requirement.
Evidence of this can be found on this page: https://www.vit.vic.edu.au/register/purpose

Decline reason:

As you know, your username is only one small part of the problem here. That said, this username is still no better. Please stop and take the time to actually read and understand WP:USERNAME, WP:COI, and WP:PROMO. Yamla (talk) 21:56, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla, we have read the respective policies. Can you please explicitly outline what the issue is with username Vt2002? This represents myself as an individual, not the organisation.
Apologies for not using the right introduction before the request. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vitcomms (talkcontribs)
The 'vt' part of it is clearly short for "Vit Comms". --Yamla (talk) 22:34, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).

Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un on hold | 1=blocking administrator | 2=Secb2002 | 3=To meet wiki username requirements | 4=~~~~}}

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=Secb2002 | reason=To meet wiki username requirements | accept=Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from [[Wikipedia:Changing username]] and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. ~~~~}}

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following, replacing {{subst:Decline reason here}} with any specific rationale. If you do not edit the text after "decline=", a default reason why the request was declined will be inserted.

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=Secb2002 | reason=To meet wiki username requirements | decline={{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}

The conflict of interest in this instance is that I am an employee of the Victorian Institute of Teaching. I do not intend on requesting any other changes. Vitcomms (talk) 22:20, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
