GA Sweeps Review: Delisted

In order to uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the requirements of the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. I am specifically going over all of the "Culture and society" articles. Unfortunately, as of June 19, 2008, this article fails to satisfy the criteria. The article was passed as a GA back in 2007, and since then, the criteria have changed significantly. The article currently lacks inline citations for several statistics and statements that should have them. If you can find sources online, feel free to include those, although book sources are always great. The following are several issues that should be addressed before renominating the article at WP:GAN:

Needs inline citations:

  1. "Saul Anuzis has been Chairman of the Michigan Republican State Committee since February, 2005 winning re-election in February 2007 by unanimous decision."
  2. "The Michigan State Senate had a Republican majority (21-17) when the 2007 term began with Randy Richardville as President Pro Tempore and Mike Bishop as Majority Leader."
  3. "The Michigan State House of Representatives had a Republican minority (52-58) when the 2007 term began with Craig DeRoche of Novi as House Minority Leader."
  4. "In 1856, the Republicans became a national party when John C. Fremont was nominated for President of the United States under the slogan: "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont."" All quotes need inline citations directly after the statement.
  5. "Even though they were considered a "third party" because the Democrats and Whigs represented the two-party system at the time, Fremont received 33% of the vote." Statistics also need direct inline citations.
  6. "Gerald R. Ford was the only Republican U.S. President and also the only Republican U.S. Vice President from Michigan."
  7. "The only Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from Michigan who was appointed by a Republican President(Benjamin Harrison) was Henry Billings Brown."
  8. "Zachariah Chandler and Arthur E. Summerfield are the only Michiganders to become Chairman of the Republican National Committee."

Other issues:

  1. The intro needs to be expanded to better summarize the article. See WP:LEAD for guidelines.
  2. The first image/logo needs a more detailed fair use rationale on the image's page stating why it should be used on this article. Make sure to include the article's title in the heading (ex. "Fair use rationale for Michigan Republican Party")
  3. I would consider moving the history section to the beginning of the article and the current members to the end. If you think it should remain as is, please explain your rationale.
  4. "Saul is also the only GOP State chairman to host a party blog [1]." Convert this link into an inline citation or make it an external link at the end of the article.
  5. "(For continued history 2)" Convert this to an external link.
  6. "He was also the longest living President in U.S. History who died at the age of 93, only surpassing Ronald Reagan by 45 days. He is the only President born in Nebraska, as well as the only President to be buried in Michigan. His wife Betty is currently living in California." Is all of this information really relevant to the article? It would best to cover some of this feats/criticisms while serving as President and impact on Michigan Republican Party.
  7. The section "History of Michigan Republicans in U.S. Congress" reads like a list and would be improved with some expansion. Touch on each of the politician's careers briefly and the impact on the party itself. I would also recommend adding inline citations for the statements declaring the politicians' "first" and "only" statements.
  8. Consider adding more pictures as there are many that are available for the politicians mentioned on this page.
  9. If possible expand the history further and current positions held by the party along with accomplishments, criticism, and any other notable events.
  10. This isn't required for GA, but I tagged Image:SenatorHenryBaldwinofMichigan.JPG to be moved to Wikimedia Commons. If you have an account, consider moving it.

For these reasons, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you disagree with this review, you can seek an alternate opinion at Good Article reassessment. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article's history to reflect this review. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 08:39, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
