Rosharon, Texas

Rosharon is an unincorporated area in Brazoria County, Texas at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 521 and Farm to Market Road 1462.

It has a population of more than 21,233 people, more than any other city in the county of Brazoria. Population rate grew scince 200 at approx 26.78% The unincorporated limits extend more than 5000 square miles.

Citizens of southern Rosharon are primarily engaged in farming and ranching, while citizens of northern Rosharon typically travel to neighboring cities for employment.

Demographics

Neighborhoods include Lindell Estates, Lakes of Savanna, Chenango Ranch, Coffee Lake, The Enclave at SouthFork, Southern Trails, Silverlake, Seven Oaks Ranch, and Sun Creek Ranch, Sterling Lakes.

There are also four Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Units in Rosharon: Darrington, Ramsey, Stringfellow, and Terrell.

Education

Students in Rosharon attend either Alvin ISD or Angleton ISD.

The City History

The City of Rosharon got its name after the settlers shorten the name from Rose of Sharon to Rosharon. The city was populated since before the civil war the city of rosharon had the Texas water company which provided water for the local rice farmers. By sometime aroun 1878 the town had a local telephone exchange which was in a local store which later was sold and close it wasen't till 1940 that a nother telephone exchange was establish. A school was built in a area church which later it consolidated whit the Anglenton Isd. A post office was later open in 1990 that is located in Fm 1462. The local volunteer fire was establish as a part of the ESD #3 which was name the Rosharon VFD. The are is patrolled by the County of Brazoria Sheriff Department.

54.67% are white, 21.54% are black 3.78% are asian, 0.89% are native amercans and 18.63% are hispanic or other. The People to sq mile is 106.
