Wye Oak

Wye Oak are an indie-folk rock duo hailing from Baltimore, MD. The duo is comprised of Andy Stack (drums, keyboards, backup vocals) and Jenn Wasner (vocals, guitars). Their sound is a blend of American folk and indie rock; their songs often focus on themes of family and maturing through youth. Often the first attention-grabbing aspect of the band is that Stack pulls double-duty on drums and keys, playing the drums with both legs and right hand and the bass line with his left hand.

Members Andy Stack and Jenn Wasner formed the duo under the moniker Monarch in mid-2006. Coinciding closely with their signing to Merge, Stack and Wasner decided to change their name to Wye Oak, in order to avoid confusion with a myriad of other bands named Monarch. The wye oak is Maryland's state tree. Their Merge label deal came through in January 2008 and a re-release of their debut album If Children arrived in April .
