Dan Borislow, magicJack Inventor

Daniel M. Borislow is an American entrepreneur, inventor, and thoroughbred horse breeder/owner.

Borislow was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1961 to Dr. Bernard Borislow and Roberta Ritchie. He is the third of four children, with three brothers, David, Michael, and Andrew.

Biography

From May 1989 through January 1999, Dan served as CEO and Director of Tel-Save Holdings now owned by Cavalier Telephone. As the largest customer and reseller of AT&T,[citation needed] Tel-Save offered wholesale long distance to other resellers through marketing and partnership agreements. At 35 years-old, Dan took the company public in 1995 and built his own long distance network by strategically deploying five Lucent class 5E switches across the United States. In 1997, Dan negotiated exclusive marketing rights with America Online and was the first company to offer services online with online billing[citation needed], provisioning and customer service and a price point substantially lower then the prevailing market price structure. Tel-Save exceeded 4 million customers a market capitalization of $1 Billion. Prior to founding Tel-Save Incorporated, Dan was responsible for constructing the initial infrastructure for residential cable in the City of Philadelphia.[citation needed] Sometimes controversial for his “tell it like it is” style[citation needed], Dan has always been an advocate for low-cost telecommunications, a high quality network, invasive spyware, skimming money from charities[1], and superior customer satisfaction[2].

Following the sale of his company stock in 1999, Dan moved his family to Palm Beach, Florida and focused his attention on thoroughbred breeding and ownership. He has had many successful race horses, including entrants in the Kentucky Derby, Breeder's Cup, Queen's Plate and other high profile races.[citation needed]

Personal life

A mentor to youth and collegiate soccer players in South Florida, Dan is an active player and coach to many children and young adults. He is also an avid deep sea fisherman and has won competitive fishing tournaments. Dan's philanthropic activities are focused on education, cancer research and children's fitness and athletics.

A graduate of Widener University in suburban Philadelphia, he has an Honorary Doctorate in Information Technology and serves on the university’s Board Of Trustees.

Dan resides in Palm Beach, Florida and Brigantine, New Jersey with his wife and two children.

Dan is inventor and founder of "magicJack", a telecommunications device that provides free local and long distance to the United States and Canada. Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, the company has launched product nationwide. In January 2008, PC Magazine awarded magicJack the Editors' Choice.
