Angela M. Brown is an American soprano opera singer at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Her teachers were Virginia Zeani at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Ginger Beazley at Oakwood College.
Brown's debut at the Met in late October of 2004 in the title role of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida was so well received that an article about her appeared on the front page of the New York Times on November 8 2004. Originally she was not scheduled that night to sing, as she had already sung two performances in the scheduled run of Aida and covering the role for the remainder of the run, but she was called to replace the ailing lead that night.
Miss Brown returned to the Metropolitan Opera to sing the 2007 season premiere and fall performances of Aida and the 2008 spring performances of Amelia in "Un Ballo in Maschera." Other recent and upcoming engagements include Indianapolis Symphony’s opening gala; "Aida" in Bilbao, Spain; "Tosca" for Florida Grand Opera; recitals for Dayton Opera; her first appearance in the role of Leonora in a concert version of "La Forza del Destino" with James Conlon for the Cincinnati May Festival; Verdi "Requiem" for the National Symphony of Spain in Madrid and sacred concerts at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Auckland, New Zealand. She was chosen by The Library of Congress as the featured soloist for the 2008-2009 National Celebration of the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln in February and by the NAACP as the featured performer for their annual national conference in July 2008.
Brown released a CD of spirituals in 2004, titled "Mosaic" (Albany Records).
