He was elected in the [[Irish (UK) general election, 1918|1918 Westminster Election]] as a [[Sinn Féin]] [[Member of Parliament|MP]] for the constituency of [[North Kerry (UK Parliament constituency)|Kerry North]]. During the [[Irish War of Independence|War of Independence]] he was interned in the [[Curragh Camp|Curragh]]. He was elected in the [[Irish elections, 1921|1921 general election]] as a Sinn Féin [[Teachta Dála|TD]] for [[Kerry-Limerick West (Dáil Éireann constituency)|Kerry-Limerick West]] and was released after the truce.  He supported the [[Anglo-Irish Treaty]]. He was re-elected in the [[Irish general election, 1922|1922 general election]] as a [[Pro-Treaty Sinn Féin|Sinn Féin]] TD and subsequently as a [[Cumann na nGaedhael]] TD in the [[Irish general election, 1923|1923 general election]] for [[Kerry (Dáil Éireann constituency)|Kerry]]. He lost his seat in the [[Irish general election, 1932|1932 general election]] and retired from politics.
