About the Albums
Cheetah-licious Christmas
In 2004, The Cheetah Girls became a real group, instead of an on-screen group and recorded a song for Disneymania 3. After the release of the Disneymania single, they began to record their first Christmas album in early 2005 for Walt Disney Records.
They finished recording in mid-2005 and the album was mixed. A release date was then set for October 11, 2005.
On November 11, 2005, the girls released their headliner single and the album's tite track, Cheetah-licious Christmas. The music video was not released into mainstream charts, but instead was shown only on the Disney Channel during the holiday times only. The song did not chart on any mainstream chart and did not do extremely well on Radio Disney, not charting anywhere. However, the album peaked at #74 during its release in the 2005 holiday season.
On December 12, 2005, the album's second single, a radio-only single at that, Five More Days 'Til Christmas was released to Radio Disney. This single was supposed to attract more attention to the album and the group itself, however, it failed to make the cut, and chart anywhere, again not even Radio Disney. After the single's flop, the concert tour was almost cancelled mid-way through, but it had already begun making money for Walt Disney Records so the tour continued. The planned music video for Five More Days 'Til Christmas was never made because of touring and no concert was ever filmed by professionals.
In 2006, after two holiday seasons, the album has sold over 300,000 copies failing to even go Gold. However, during the holiday season of 2006 the album started to sell again, but ultimately failed to chart. The singles also again received minor airplay on Radio Disney.
In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour
Because of the enormous response to the first tour with The Cheetah Girls, Disney expanded the second tour from the original 40 dates to 60 and then again to 80 and once more to 83. Kiely Williams herself called it "the never ending tour".[5]The tour was one of the most successful tours for Disney with the finale of the tour selling 80,000 tickets in less than 3 minutes. So, The Cheetah Girls, much like the cast of High School Musical, recorded songs live at a concert performance in California. The CD was released along with a DVD, also like High School Musical: The Concert. This marks the Girls' first live album ever. The CD/DVD combo was released on July 10, 2007. This album also marked the girls' second, and final album on the Walt Disney Records label before making the move to Hollywood Records to record an official first studio album.
The CD includes songs from The Cheetah Girls 2 soundtrack as well as The first Cheetah Girls soundtrack and other soundtracks the Girls have done over the years. The track Falling For You is also included on the album.
TCG
The Cheetah Girls have been working on their official debut album since January, 2006. However, when filming and recording for The Cheetah Girls 2 came up, the album was put on hold. "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack", Adrienne Bailon from Camp Rock and Phineas and Doug said. "Some of the music on there will be produced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas", she says. "It's important for people to see us as a real musical group. We have all this great marketing around us, with the movies and other things. But we are a musical group."
In an interview with Billboard about the album, Sabrina Bryan stated that the girls worked on writing for the album on their Party's Just Begun tour and that they hope to gather an audience of older fans while simultaneously staying true to their younger fan base.[6]. Bryan also stated that the girls would work with producers they've worked with in the past as well as exploring new producers, such as Timbaland.[7]. It was also stated that the album would be released on Hollywood Records.[8]. Group member, Adrienne Bailon also announced that "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" will be their first single from the album. In an interview with teen magazine Bop, the girls confirmed that they had already recorded tracks for this album, although they declined to say which ones.
They have also performed songs "Falling For You", "Cheetah-licious", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Fuego", "Do No Wrong", and "Fall Apart" from this album on their The Party's Just Begun Tour. Videos of all of the above mentioned songs being performed at the concerts are all available on YouTube.
As of April 2007, the album was untitled and the only confirmed tracks were "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", Cheetah-licious and Falling For You. Also, the release date of the album was confirmed as June 19, 2007, however in late March 2007, the album was pushed back and is now set to be released on September 25, 2007 featuring production from J. R. Rotem of Britney Spears and Rihanna fame.[9]
It was also announced in early spring of 2007, that the release of the Girls' version of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" had been canceled so they could instead release "So This Is Love" in its place.
The song is a cover from the 1950 Disney version of Cinderella and will appear on the album Disneymania 5. A music video was shot for the single in Los Angeles over two days.[10]
In an issue of Hip-Hop Weekly magazine, where Adrienne was being interviewed, the title of this album was confirmed to be Who We Are.[11] However, the title was changed to The Party's Just Begun in August 2007.[12]
The track "So Bring It On" was performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2007 Disney Channel Games and will be aired on Disney Channel on August 25, 2007. The girls also stated in the DVD to their In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour CD/DVD combo that, with this album, the fans will get to know them as "Adrienne, Sabrina, and Kiely" and not as their characters from the films.
"Fuego" was the second single from the album[13]. Kiely said she was interested in directing the video.[13] The song samples Lionel Richie's "All Night Long",[14] and the video was to be a "destination video" with a luau theme as well as to be filmed in an "exotic" location.[13] The video ended up being shot in a studio with red and blue backgrounds along with many backup dancers.
