Michael Alexander Carberry (born 29 September 1980 in Croydon) is an English cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler.
Domestic cricket
Carberry only made one appearance in Surrey's Championship-winning season of 2002, having previously represented England Under-19s at the 2000 Cricket World Cup. He moved to Kent in 2003 and in his first season scored over 600 first-class runs. In 2005 he made only one first-class appearance, but made 10 appearances in the totesport League. In the Twenty20 cup he excelled, playing three games with an 80.66 average. He left Kent at the end of the 2005 season and joined Hampshire on a two-year contract.
During the 2009 County Championship season Carberry has scored 1095 runs, third behind Marcus Trescothick and Mark Ramprakash in the leading run scorers table. His return to form followed a quiet 2008 season, and included his first double century, scoring 204 against Warwickshire in a first class match. His rich form led to speculation that he could be called up to the England squad for the deciding 5th Ashes test. In a Championship match against Nottinghamshire Carberry made 86 runs before being forced to retire his innings after breaking his left ring finger, ruling him out for the rest of the season [1].
International career
In 2008 Carberry toured New Zealand with the England Lions, scoring 91 in the first innings of his first tour match. He also played the New Zealand team on their return tour later that year, scoring 41 in the first innings and a masterful 100 not out in the second.[2]
In August 2009 he was once again called up to the England Lions team to play Australia in a two day match.
