"Hello,

I reverted this edit, because you deleted a very appropriate contribution; like I stated in my edit summary, the lead is supposed to contain a "whole" summary of what has been discussed in detail in the body of the article. Also note that while everyone is welcomed to edit the wikipedia, contributions should be from a neutral point of view, without any bias. Be aware that continuous vandalism of the Wikipedia may get you blocked from editing without further notice.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:29, 22 October 2014 (UTC)"

Many thanks for your comment reproduced above. I absolutely agree that contributions should be from a neutral point of view without any bias. Which is why I reverted your contribution. Because it unfortunately appears that the intent of its inclusion in the lead (and especially the timing of it) served to dilute the achievements of the film which were recently added. Hopefully, this was inadvertent. Otherwise, why was this 'very appropriate contribution' not made prior to the very recent addition of awards won on this particular page? What has suddenly 'inspired' it? And why is this 'very appropriate contribution' notably absent from the leads of several other Nigerian film pages that this contributor has either created or expanded (a fact that can easily be verified)?

This is what is troubling.

On a general point, this 'very appropriate contribution' is far from being a customary inclusion in the lead section of Wikipedia film pages; on the contrary, it is notably absent from the pages of several Hollywood films (again, a fact that can easily be verified). So again the question is: Why the insistence that it must appear without fail on this particular film page, and the contribution made immediately after the page had been updated with awards recently won?

As you correctly point out: CONTRIBUTIONS SHOULD BE FROM A NEUTRAL POINT OF VIEW, WITHOUT ANY BIAS.

Which is why the edit was reverted.

Please note.

Half of a yellow sun budget

Ytsadiku: Dear Jamie Tubers. I haven't made any further changes, as you keep reversing my changes, I am an Executive Producer of the film. The sources you quote for the budget are wrong, the budget was not even in N! The Nigerian newspaper you referred to did not speak to any of the producers to confirm the information.41.184.187.140 (talk) 21:39, 31 March 2014 (UTC)ytsadiku.[reply]

  • Hello, another source has been provided and that is a youtube link of an interview of this same Yewande Sadiku with Aljazeera and the amount she quoted has the same equivalent to what is on the Wiki page. You need to understand that everything on wikipedia has to be verified. We can't just take your word for it, you have to provide reliable sources to back up your claim. If you keep removing content without concrete and verifiable reasons, it is termed Vandalism. Thanks--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:45, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tubers

Hi Tubers, I've responded via the '76 (film) talk page. See you there. Stanleytux (talk) 22:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Writer's Barnstar
I did not have time to create mine so I decided to plagiarize one lol, anyway this is for your general contributions in raising the standard of African Cinema articles on Wikipedia to an encyclopaedic level. Darreg (talk) 14:42, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Darreg, It is appreciated :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 16:03, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awakening (2013 film)

The sentence that follows after the quotation made me add "a writer for Nollywood Reinvented..". The next sentence starts with "She". The paragraph doesn't tell me who "she" is. I can imply that "she" refers to "Nollywood Reinvented", but I would be wrong knowing fully well that Nollywood Reinvented is an online platform. The current state of the article doesn't tell me who "she" is. I think that if you're going to remove the edit I made, you should consider telling readers who "she" is or what "she" represents. I only added "a writer for Nollywood Reinvented" to show that "she" has some sort of affiliations with Nollywood Reinvented. Versace1608 (Talk) 21:08, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon my last message. I know what you meant now. It's sort of like calling a country "she". I don't think that this is the norm on Wikipedia. I think that we should address a single entity as an entity. Using pronouns is sort of confusing. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one confused. Versace1608 (Talk) 21:23, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yea...I let the 'she' remain cos organizations are usually referred to with a feminine pronoun. Or maybe we can change it to 'it'? or maybe we start to rewrite the sentences, so it won't need a subject?--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:22, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are right about organizations being referred to with a feminine pronoun. However, this is not the norm on Wikipedia. Apart from this article, I have yet to come across a movie article on Wikipedia that uses a feminine pronoun to refer to an organization. Rotten Tomatoes, a website similar to Nollywood Reinvented, is always refer to by its name. In the case where Rotten Tomatoes has already been mention in the article, "the website" is used. Now that I understand what you meant, I don't have a problem with the sentence. However, not everyone will understand what you did, and those who are not familiar with Nollywood Reinvented may get lost in the trenches. Versace1608 (Talk) 22:13, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

www.nigeriafilms.com

Hello Jamie. Hope you are set for the holidays? If you should say the information on www.nigeriafilms.com are most times unreliable, I would agree with you. but saying its a forum is what I don't agree with. It is different from the way nairaland.com works. Any Jack or Harry cannot just go and publish something on www.nigeriafilm.com Darreg (talk) 15:07, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alright, but my point is actually that the site isn't a critic website. The review you cited looks like some free style stuff. My opinion - I've seen some articles from the website and I don't think it is a site serious enough to be referenced on wikipedia (for claims especially).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:24, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Know about Twinkle?

Only asking because on the requests for rollback, you mention reverting one edit at a time. WP:TWINKLE has a function that acts like rollback, reverts all edits, but isn't really rollback. (You however DO need rollback for using tools like Huggle and Stik. You can enable it in your preferences panel, but review the documentation beforehand, as anything you do you're responsible for. It makes menial tasks like reporting/warning users/requesting paga protection/deletion/whatever just a whole lot easier. Your account has about 1500+ edits and I just want to make sure you know about it. It's a really useful tool. Tutelary (talk) 23:43, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to The Figurine, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. Psychonaut (talk) 15:02, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was clearly stated in the opening credit of those videos: "the following movie has been exclusively licenced to ibaka entertainment". So the videos are not violating copyrights. Thanks--Jamie Tubers (talk) 15:10, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • OK, sorry for the confusion; normally when professionally produced movies show up on YouTube they are copyright infringements. I checked out IbakaTV.com and they seem reputable. However, I still think that these links don't support your claims. I see French subtitles over Yoruba dialogue. Where exactly is the dubbing? —Psychonaut (talk) 15:29, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

your revert of revert of massive deletion

Please revert massive deletion of http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Economy_of_Africa&diff=495758973&oldid=495749330 in some way.

No, I didn't do a perfect job, but the deletion is by far the greater evil. Lots of useful and relavant info got ripped out. It smells of somebody doing public relations, ripping out any facts that aren't rosy. For example, the section called Language Diversity is important, describing a communication issue that deeply affects the economy. That is but one example of many. 50.89.71.42 (talk) 07:12, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • HI, Thanks for bringing this to my notice. I reverted your addition cos many things are contradicting the latest additions and most of the contents of that revision are unsourced - So obviously, the unsourced revision is to go... I just spot checked again and I saw there are some really useful content in it and few are sourced, while few others can be sourced easily just by using search engines. When I have the time, I'll go through the revision and add the credible information. Thanks again.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 23:58, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awakening (2013 film)

Thanks for your recent edit to the Awakening (2013 film) article. I wanted to revert that particular edit, but didn't do so because I know nothing about the film. Sometimes I guess things need to be done by instincts. Versace1608 (Talk) 20:58, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

HOAYS

Hello. I just read your reply on the talkpage. I concur with your position on the film being over-hyped in Nigeria after reading many reviews on it. I will still watch it when it hits the cinemas though. #TeamChinweltelEjiofor Darreg (talk) 23:35, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jamie Tubers, I just wanted to find out why you think "jOlade" is spelt as "jAlade". Although I am not really from that part of Nigeria but I have gone through most of her verified social media accounts and they spell it as jOlade with an "O". Aside that most people know her as jOlade. Darreg (talk) 17:35, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, because her name was never "Jolade". As you can see, she was born as "Omotola Jalade" to Mr and Mrs "Jalade". You know for Naija, people like to dey do oversabi. I guess someone concluded that the name was wrong and people started using Jolade, resulting in both words being used interchangeably. Yea, "Jolade" sounds more reasonable, but I think "Jalade" is like a deep traditional word from her town or something. I guess she accepted her fate and got used to the misspelt word and that resulted in her fb account having "O" (there was a time she had two fb accounts; one with "O", another with "A" - she later merged them). Her other social accounts use just "J.". Incase you've not noticed, she's never been credited in films as "Jolade". Not once! THAT'S WHAT I THINK.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:13, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You were right about her credits in most films. I am a little obsessed about seeing an image in that Nse Ikpe Etim article. I have tried contacting her via social media but she hardly ever replies anyone online. How do you think I can go about that? Darreg (talk) 11:45, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't even know if these celebrities read their Wikipedia articles. I say this to say that I have tried contacting musicians several times via their management, but to no avail. @Darreg: I stumbled upon this image and these images of Nse that Bellanaija owns the copyright to. I doubt they will reply though, but you can try to contact them. On the bright side, I want you to visit this webpage. All the images you see on that page can be uploaded onto Wikipedia once I request declaration of consent forms for them. I can guarantee you that they can all be added. Just go through the page and give me names of the people whose articles are missing images. Versace1608 (Talk) 15:08, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot Versace. I will really appreciate those images. The following are articles that I will love to upload an image. I hope we are not asking too much from the copyright holder.

Dear Jamie Tubers

Dear Jamie Tuber, Thank you for checking on my test work. Kindly advise of the first thing needed on wikipedia. Meanwhile, i searched for Eateries in Nigeria but were not available. Therefore, i am interested in writing article on it. Kindly advise on steps to be taking for a successful article.Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 22:55, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, welcome once again! And thanks for joining the Wiki community. Your area of interest is "on point". The easiest way is to check on other articles on eatries, just to see how they are written, then follow the same format. The most important part is; make sure you give enough references. Your format can always be corrected, but if the article is not well referenced, there are some unfriendly editors and admins that are ready to tag your article for deletion in a heartbeat, instead of putting you through - it's what they do best! Lemme introduce you to my wiki mini family: Versace1608 and Darreg. Whenever you leave me a message and I don't reply on time, I'm sure they'd be willing to put you through :). Regards--Jamie Tubers (talk) 23:17, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Gidi Up

Greetings Tubers, take a look at the Orange Is the New Black article and tell me if the changes I made to the article isn't identical? A list of episodes article looks like this; it has nothing to do with the changes I made. If you like the simplicity of your version, I suppose that's okay. I was just trying to help out because I kind of like the show after watching it. Thanks for recommending it to me. Versace1608 (Talk) 19:28, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, thanks for the contribution. Just that normally, Wiki prefers articles which aren't list articles to be presented as prose (i read it sometime like that). It's when they can't be well represented as prose that it's necessary to use table format. To me, the state of the article before the edit looked much better as prose - Atleast for now that we don't have "episode count", "cast sessions" etc that can make the section warrant a table. Or what do you think? BTW, what I wanted to post in the edit summary was "list of characters" not "list of episodes". Check some popular series like: Game of Thrones, Prison Break, Legend of the Seeker, Merlin, 24 etc.
I don't see any reason why the Gidi Up article can't contain tables. I feel like the list of Gidi Up characters can have its own article, something similar to the List of Orange Is the New Black characters. I also feel like the character description column I included in the table can be removed, which will make the table drastically smaller. Anyways, it's all up to you. I will probably write a detail description for each episode in Season 2. Prison Break was good, but I prefer Orange is the New Black. It's been getting a lot of buzz here in America, and the Nigerian American actress who's in it is one of the stars of the series. Before I forget, I like Legend of the Seeker and Merlin; its sad that they had to stop filming them. If the ratings are not good, they normally canceled television series in America. Versace1608 (Talk) 22:47, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm hoping I'd create "list of episodes" article soon for the series. I don't wanna create "List of characters" cos I'm not sure I can get alot on the characters right now - Atleast till we are given the backstories of the characters. But if you feel you can write anything tangible on the characters, please go ahead and create the article. I also couldn't write plot summary of the season 2 just yet, cos the season hasn't been concluded.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:05, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you're going to create a list of episodes article, I suppose I could help you out with that. I have never seen you edit in your sandbox. I guess you dedicate lots of time to completing articles all in one go. I used to do the same thing when I first started editing Wikipedia. I remember spending 8 hours writing Tiwa Savage's Once Upon a Time album article. If I create a list of characters article, will it be okay to restore the table I had without a "Character description" column? Versace1608 (Talk) 00:16, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • It depends, I feel you can leave the short character descriptions. You know you'd still have to break each characters in sections and explain everything about them in detail. For now, I only know Yvonne is from Onitsha :D. lol. Btw, I don't finish my articles in one go lol, how can I do that? I have my own "private" sandox. Python is one of the web developing programmes Wiki uses and I'm kinda familiar with the programming language. I have a software I tweaked to do exactly (or almost similar) what a sandbox/wiki page does. I do most of my editing offline (I just save the reference pages and go through them much later). I'm currently working tirelessly for the "cinema of Nigeria" article. It's such a heavy task!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:28, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • That reminds me, why don't we have "dorobucci" page yet? :D. Please doroCreate it! DoroThank you! DoroRegards. :D--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:32, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice. Is the Python language easier than Java? I know a little bit of Java and C++, but suck at them in the grand scheme of things. I can't wait to see the cinema of Nigeria article. Hopefully, it can become a good or featured article. I will re-watch all the episodes this weekend and come up with something. I don't think we (the viewers) will get to know each character in excruciating detail. The nature of the show won't permit us to. "Dorobucci" is a hit. I still can't fathom how it got more than 100,000 views in less than 24 hours (Crazy numbers). I need to find out if it has received reviews. I will try to create it ASAP. Versace1608 (Talk) 00:51, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Versace Your countryman just added Ebola to our long list of problems. We now have Ebola added to Corruption, Power failure, Boko Haram, Insecurity, etc *Don't take this comment seriously o*. @Tubers Python programming language again? Your versatility is second to none. You are quite knowledgeable in many aspects of human knowledge (films, music, programming, photography, engineering, etc). It really annoys me when people attach "duro" to words anyhow, please if you are on my talkpage don't use it o lol . *Don't take this comment seriously o #justkidding*. Concerning Gidi Up I really want to contribute to the article. I enjoyed the season 2 even though I did not watch season 1 at all, cuz I was not feeling it. I will add plots for some of the season 2 episodes soonest Darreg (talk) 21:21, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Versace1608: Well; this is how we were taught in school QBasic - C++ - Java - python. So I guess it isn't easier than Java.
@Darreg: thanks for the compliment, but I'm not so much of a "guru". It's only proper for an Engineering student to know programming. And don't be such a pessimist lol, let's hope the Liberian National won't cause an outbreak in Nigeria. I'm sure the health guys are doing everything that's possible.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 13:28, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Broadcasted v Broadcast

I note you have reverted my corrections of broadcasted to broadcast, on Gidi Up, a couple of times now.
Broadcasted is a common misconstruction of Broadcast, which appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Some dictionaries include broadcasted, but the use is proscribed, so it should not be used, other dictionaries, e.g.Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, so should be used throughout, as per COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

A Beta search for Broadcast on Wikipedia, carried out today, gave over 182,600 uses, compared with a search for broadcasted which gave just 28.
Of these 28, 13 are redirects to the correctly titled "Broadcast" articles, 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon, and the rest are misspellings in quotations or titles.

I have corrected it again - please do not change it back - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 17:05, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • of course broadcasted will be a redirect to broadcast, same way "took" will always be redirected to "take". And last I checked, "took" doesn't exist at all as a word in most dictionaries. Well, the article is written in a specific variety of English (Nigerian). Words like "broadcasted" together with so many words that maybe considered to be incorrect in other varieties is correct. According to Wikipedia policies, this should not be changed without a broad consensus. I'm reverting it back! If you have a problem with it so much, take it to the article's talkpage.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Patoranking

Please see Template:Infobox musical artist for Wikipedia's definition of origin. I know that in Nigeria (and other parts of Africa), you guys consider the birthplace of someone's parents to be their origin. This is not the norm on Wikipedia. As a matter of fact, origin on Wikipedia means "a town, city etc., from which the group or musician originated (that is, the place where the group was founded, or where individual performer started their career, should it not match the location of their birth). If the place is not known, specify at least the country. Do not add a flag icon. Omit the country if it does not differ from that specified at the field "birth_place". I tried explaining this to User:Pyxon, but he couldn't be reasoned with. He doesn't realize that Wikipedia is govern by rules. I took this to the edit warring administrative noticeboard and he got block for a period of 24 hrs. Just thought I let you know in case you think that his edits were justifiable. Please read Darreg's response on my talk page. Darreg's comments were on point as far as I'm concern. Versace1608 (Talk) 00:34, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh! I see. The origin I added was not to mean "place of birth". Origin in Nigeria generally means the place where one's ancestry is found. Indigene is synonymous to native because they both refer to hometown which means place of birth or growing up. And Patoranking wasn't born in Ebonyi, neither did he grow up there. I only corrected it to give a more explicit meaning. But if you think it's wrong, please do change it back!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:43, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the article to one of its cleaner version. Versace1608 (Talk) 00:58, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Versace You said "...you guys consider the birthplace ..." like you are not also one of us. lol Darreg (talk) 12:38, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean it like that. Please do not take it out of context. Versace1608 (Talk) 13:06, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise for the unintended insinuation attached to my comment. I didn't even expect you to reply or even take my comments seriously. Darreg (talk) 15:12, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

University of Ilorin

Congratulations to your school for being number 1 in Nigeria. Versace1608 (Talk) 17:08, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The information on Daily Times is false, here is the official rankings from Webometrics. Darreg (talk) 18:03, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Daily Times wasn't the only newspaper that reported the story. The Nigerian Tribune, Osun Defender, allAfrica all reported the story. Is the list on the Webometrics website the updated list for 2014, or was it from last year? Versace1608 (Talk) 18:15, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Versace, even though I can't exactly say I'm proud of it anyway. Darreg, Webometrics just as the name suggests ranks universities based on their online presence. Nothing more.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 18:20, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are right about it ranking web presence only, but they are still the most recognized ranking website in the world. I removed the info on unilorin wiki page since 4icu does not have a wikipedia page yet. If you read the tribune article well you will note that they were mentioning 4icu and webometrics interchangeably (very poor writeup). Here are links to the 2 rankings to avoid any ambiguity. Webometrics Ranking and 4icu Ranking
@Jamie Tubers: Why are you not proud of this? @Darreg: Thanks for correcting the info. I don't know much about both rankings. Like I told you on my talk page, I just came across the info on Facebook and decided to add it to the article. Versace1608 (Talk) 19:13, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Versace, only me know that one lol. Darreg, you shouldn't remove the info, it was reported by notable newspapers. Webometrics is popular, but everyone around the world knows it's not a serious ranking organization that's based on educational capacity of the school. Search for 4icu on wikipedia, most universities include their ranking. It's okay to add the webometrics ranking in the wiki article as well though. And I will revert your edit.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 19:43, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Darreg: @Versace1608: and @Jamie Tubers: how are you guys doin? You are reali doin a great job here. I love you all. Darreg my best friend. In life we disagree to agree. As for unilorin, I think webometrics is realiable to an extent.Wikicology (talk) 21:24, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Africa Movie Academy Award spinoff articles

You recently reverted a series of main article templates I added for overlinking, which is certainly plausible. My motivation for adding the templates was this apparently misguided AfD where the nominator apparently did not realize the article was a spinoff: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Africa Movie Academy Award for Most Promising Actor. I had thought that adding the {{main}} templates as they are included on many other WP:SPINOFF articles might avoid this mistake in the future. Do you have any thought on how best to avoid this problem? 24.151.10.165 (talk) 20:11, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, the reason I reverted the edit is because the first sentence in each of those articles links the parent article; so adding a template just above it is irrelevant. Then again, the "Main" template is not for the spinoff articles, it is to be placed in applicable section of the article from which the spin off came from. Lemme explain; spinoff articles usually have summarized paragraphs in the parent article, the "main" template is placed at the top of such summary section to show there's a more comprehensive article on the subject.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:53, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. The type of usage I was talking about is included in the template documentation but is "controversial" as it notes: "This template can also be used in articles leads when an article is not the 'main' article for its subject, but this is controversial." Having seen a number of spinoffs like this, I thought it was standard. So, I guess we'll just leave as is and hope no one else makes the same mistake the deletion nominator made. 24.151.10.165 (talk) 21:13, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linda Ikeji as a Gossip Blog

I have to admit that over the years the Gossip Tag has been synonymous with Linda's blog. Many prominent entertainers have also criticized her for publishing unverified (or seemingly false) sensitive info, but I will love to crave your indulgence to the current positive trend that has been happening of late on the blog. I believe she is trying to remove the gossip notion about her site from her recent reportage. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to make a case for her being a reliable source, I am only saying that the "Gossip" notion is gradually becoming a myth based on recent observations. I will observe her more to see if she continues with the reliable trend. Darreg (talk) 21:59, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dry

I just watched the very interesting trailer of Dry on Youtube and I can deduce that some part of the film happen to be shot in Wales. I guess that IP user was not really disruptive afterall. Darreg (talk) 20:56, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know it was shot in Wales before.....It's in the body of the article infact. The IP was adding Wales to the "Country" section in the infobox and that's wrong! And btw when you add anything to Wikipedia (even if it's true) and the edit is controversial, but you didn't explain in the edit summary and didn't add a source....it's disruptive.-Jamie Tubers (talk) 11:30, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Recent reverted revert of someone else's revert

I do not want to appear as contentious but unfortunately this just tells me that I seem to be your favorite to seek out EVERY contribution I make. I will make note of that so in the future should this persist (i.e. revert before review) then I have an fundamental example to show just when it was so obvious. Maybe, this is just your overall approach to things that are changed but not by you. I see by your talk page that you have received very unflattering comments from at least someone else that took offense to how he was approached about an issue. A knee jerk reaction is wonderful when the position being championed is on your side but that, in an emotional outburst cannot always upon be counted.

Also, if one is reporting on "So and so went to the toilet and then wiped themselves clean" says enough about what occurred instead of "So and so went to the toilet, shitted a foot long length of feces, then wiped themselves" would omclude far more than what is needed to represent the activity--unless of course the subject of the statement was a foot-long shit.66.74.176.59 (talk) 06:00, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sure by now you would've noticed how messages are posted on your talkpage. And the discussions you've engaged in, I'm sure you've noticed how other editors made their points. You're suppose to mention the article involved and go straight to the point on what is wrong and why you think so. That's how to engage in a simple CIVIL discussion. Don't come on my page with your long unneeded epistle that makes no sense! That's to avoid scenerios such as this; cos I find your analogy of faeces gross and insulting!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 10:08, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if someone writes you and you are unable to remember then maybe there are too many instances that are covered by the discussion going on besides myself. Sometimes strong conversation needs to be made in order to make an impact. Life is not always beautiful. Of course there are those that regardless as to how you phrase a point it does not matter. You have reacted in a manner that I expected considering your initial contact. I have no qualms over that whioch I have written others. If it is believe that what is write is long, well, if you do not bother to read what are the edits that I make to articles then why would you invest time in messages from me sent you? But thank you for letting me know about what little you have revealed. I do not mind people being outspoken but I do mind it when they have set their mind to a particular set and just put the car and drive forward not bothering to read the road signs that say the bridge ahead if out. Maami

I had Ma'ami in my sandbox, but you beat me to it. Why don't you nominate Phone Swap as a good article, I will love to see an African film with the "Good article" icon. In the Phone Swap article, you wrote that it was on IbakaTV, I have visited the site severally but it was only the trailer that was there. Darreg (talk) 21:08, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh wow! I didn't even know, what a coincidence. I don't think phone swap will pass GA for now. I think with a lil bit copyedits (which I hope doing later on), The Figurine article stands a better chance. However, you can go ahead to nominate it ofcourse, if you think Phone Swap deserves a GA rating. Better still, we can nominate it for "B-class" status.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:21, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • And about the Ibaka TV, I really don't know how it operates, I based the info on what I got from sources. Lemme check the website now.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:24, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I will be nominating it soon. For some reasons I don't want to read the plot just yet cuz I want the film to be as funny as the trailer when I am watching it on irokotv. @66.74.176.59: You can't come to Wikipedia and ask someone if they're an ass. It is not civil of you to do so. You need to read WP:PERSONAL. Asking questions like this can get you block. Versace1608 (Talk) 10:52, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm sorry for offending your sensibility about your compadre Jamie. It was a typo. It should have been asinine behavior. Please do not present yourself as an authority only to be shot down with the facts. Please follow due diligence before accusing someone of something that is not true. All it takes is two steps to determine just what is and what is not an article in WP. I followed through on the two steps. Jamie did not and thus has the distinction of causing doubt about his actions. Nothing personal but when you are the cause of an aggressive attitude then that is not good for WP. Again, two steps. You really should be certain about your information and accusations otherwise you just may get involved with someone that does feel offended by accusations. I leave it to WP to substantiate the claim that there is an article Cinema of Nigeria. With your involvement as well as Jamie's in the cinema of Nigeria that you would not be more up to date about WP articles. I am glad that before the situation become more embarrassing that things have been made known. Now, go forth and use the link freely!66.74.176.59 (talk) 14:47, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • You changed what was previously in the article and linked "Cinema in Nigeria" which doesn't exist on wiki and infact distorts the meaning. "People of Nigeria" means the same as "Nigerian People". But these two words are clearly different to "People in Nigeria". And then again, another user advised you against fixing redirects, you failed to oblige, you think everyone is frustrating you. There are scenarios where another version of an article title suits the sentence better. If you continue, to disregard Wiki guidelines and continue doing what YOU THINK is right according to YOUR logic, a large amount of your contributions will end up being reverted, there's no two way to it. And watch it, so you don't cross the line to the other side of being disruptive. This your epistles and you telling other editors with past edit warring issues to be on your side isn't gonna solve anything. Just abide by Wikipedia's guidelines and no one will bother you. When you have concerns, discuss it with other editors, CLEARLY explaining your stance. This isn't rocket science.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:50, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article rating

Hi Tubers, I don't think we can rate the articles we create. The habit of doing that is not the norm on Wikipedia. If we were allowed to do so, I will certainly gave the Wizkid article a Good article rating. BTW, your rating is on point. Versace1608 (Talk) 21:13, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, according to what is written here, any person who belongs to the wikiproject or understands the rating scale, including a person who's made considerable contributions to an article can assess/reassess to what they feel is appropriate (another editor who feels otherwise can reassess anyway), as long as it is in good faith, OR seek for another user to check it out if they want a second opinion. However, rating an article for good article and upward requires submission. I know it's not encouraged due to the possibility of being bias, but I just don't like an article to be left there unassessed and I try to be unbiased, there are many others like that without ratings, why add to them? But I think I'd stop now that you brought it up. I will just leave my articles unassessed. Thanks anyway :)--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:45, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All of the ratings you've given are solid. In my opinion, you were not bias in your assessment of them. I also hate when it takes a long time for someone to access the article. I guess it's left with you at the end of the day. As per the message regarding the nationality concerns we have, I think you should go ahead and do what you need to do. I have posted the same message on three different noticeboards and haven't gotten any response. Versace1608 (Talk) 02:59, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I feel free to rate material I've written (or contributed substantially to) as Stub, Start, or C-class. For B-class or better, I leave it to others to do the rating. I find this is a convenient happy medium. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:42, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Versace1608: I will create the page...It should be up tomorrow (my timezone).
@Demiurge1000: thank you, That's what I thought too. But now, I think I'd leave the articles for sometime; if they don't get assessed, then I'd do it.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:08, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An editor you might be able to help

Good morning Jamie, I hope you are well. I wonder if you could look into assisting an editor from Nigeria who has had a few problems with editing recently.

He is User:Wikicology, and there is a current ANI thread concerning him (probably about to be closed) at WP:ANI#New editor.... I and others have offered him some advice on his talk page User talk:Wikicology, please review this as well.

I wonder if you could either assist Wikicology in editing articles about less controversial topics (for example, Nigerian movies), or assist them in editing Wikipedia projects in other languages used in Nigeria? (I have given links to some on his talk page, but perhaps he needs further encouragement.)

Wikicology has great enthusiasm and is very eager and productive, so it would be sad they ended up no longer able to contribute to Wikipedia just because of difficulties with the English Wikipedia.

Many thanks for any help you can offer them. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:23, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello Demiurge1000, I'm doing just great.
I'm always open to answer any questions this user may have, but I don't think I want to be so involved with the user. From the little I know about him on wiki, he's a user who takes advice the wrong way. He tries to justify everything he does, no matter what! Above all, I don't like the way he interacts with other users. I'm very aware a discussion is going on about him, but I chose not to participate.....cos next thing; I may just log on to wiki next day and see all the articles I created upside down.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:08, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jamie Tubers forgive me! I understand that my behavior is too hostile to ignore but now I have a different and new mentality on how things work here. Please forgive me Jamie. I was only been stupid then, forgive me. Wikicology (talk) 15:35, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Importance Ratings

Hello, I recently started some work on the mechanism of WP ratings system and I noticed you gave the Wizkid (musician) article a high importance rating on Lagos and Yoruba portal. I disagree with that evaluation, the best Wizzy should get on those portals is Mid- importance. As a musician, he should be rated as "High Importance" based on his achievement in the music scene and worldwide followership but as a lagosian or a yorubaman it should be "Low importance" or "mid importance". Just because a prominent musician is yoruba or from lagos is not enough to be rated high. The Lagosians (the ones I can currently remember) who clearly meets the High importance tags (some listed are even top importance) are All governors of Lagos state, CJ of Lagos, Oba of Lagos, Fela Kuti (Kalakuta republic founder), Daddy Showkey, Baba Fryo, Pasuma (that is if he is from lagos) etc. Yorubamen who clearly meets the high importance tags are Tunde Kelani, Olubadan, Alaafin of Oyo, Shina Peters, Kwam1, Wasiu Ayinde etc...I hope you get my drill from my examples. I have done a lot of research on similar wiki articles before arriving at this my conclusion. Darreg (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Darreg: Tubers didn't do the rating for WikiProject Lagos. I believe User:Eruditescholar did. Versace1608 (Talk) 21:16, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am very sorry for the mix-up Jamie. One thing I have learnt from being on WP is to be very careful with my words. Once you click "save", it can never be undone literally. Thanks Versace for the correction.Darreg (talk) 21:32, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've not rated any article from WikiProject Lagos, and I'm not a participant in WikiProject Yoruba. Btw, wikiprojects have different criteria on how they rate the class and importance of articles within their scope..... So you can't compare rating criteria of different projects. And people like Governors of Lagos and Obas of Lagos, can't be rated "High importance", those are definitely "Top importance". but how articles are rated, at the end of the day depends on the criteria of the wikiproject.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 12:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Its like you skipped the part where I said "some are even top importance", I actually listed the most important I could remember across fields that was why I even started with the Governors. There are general guidelines for importance ratings as stated here. Wikiprojects can only attempt to localize those rules but not change it. I took those rules into consideration before arriving at my conclusions.Darreg (talk) 18:59, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • exactly my point! if "wikiproject Lagos" thinks wizkid has contributed alot to the perception of Lagos, maybe through his music, enough to get a "high importance", then I see no reason for it not to be rated high. I'm indifferent in this scenario anyway....And btw, you can always change the rating if you think otherwise; hopefully, the user who rated it initially, won't have any problems with it.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:34, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help

How are you doing today Jamie Tubers? Please kindly assist me on how to add copyright compliance images to my articles so as not to violate the copyright policy. Thanks in anticipation. Wikicology (talk) 13:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm doing great, thank you.
If you own the image (you snapped it yourself); and you haven't published it on anyother online platforms, you can upload the image on wikipedia or commons, and license it with one of the free image licenses. If you own the image, but it has been published before....you'd have to use OTRS by sending a declaration of consent through your e-mail - Note that the OTRS team may ask you to prove your ownership in some way.
If you don't own the image, try to contact whoever owns the image, and try to convince them to release the image under wiki's free license. If they agree to it, tell them to send the a filled "Declaration of consent" form to your email (this is to ensure that they haven't made any mistakes), and FORWARD it to the OTRS team email. Regards.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:30, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pascal Amanfo

I use to think the dude was also Ghanaian until recently, I am still trying to understand why him and Arase chose Ghana over their motherland.Darreg (talk) 22:41, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think they chose Ghana over Nigeria; they've never denied being Nigerian. Besides, they make their films for Nollywood, so what more? Pascal for instance has been a scriptwriter in Nigeria for quite a long time; he directed some popular films in Nigeria too. Most Nigerian directors who seem to prefer Ghana as a location of shoot, do cos of the cheaper cost of production, less expensive actors and crew etc.... Nigeria, just like any other entertainment hub is all about the showbiz, actors charging 'heaven and earth', crew members doing same. It's just reasonable to go to a country where the people are willing to collaborate with very little pay. At the end of the day, the films are registered with the Nigerian Film Corporation and are acquired by Nigerian distributors. They end up getting same earnings as the films shot in Nigeria, but with a much bigger profit margin. It's all business! lol... (you think it is ordinary that Ghana recently decided to place heavy taxes on Nigerian filmmakers shooting in Ghana? - Yea, after their actors became famous lol). I think it's all good anyway....the industry is big enough for the whole of West Africa and beyond. Nollywood shouldn't be a 'Nigerian thing', and it's good to see other Africans being allowed into the industry.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 01:50, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wow!! What a long reply. I actually understand you, but I don't agree with your reason of Ghana actors being considerably cheaper than their Nigerian counterparts. Arase mostly use Majid, Dumelo, Yvonne Nelson, Tvonne Okoro and Nadia Buari. These people are the big names in Ghana - I believe their appearance fees in films will not be far-fetched from the popular faces in Nollywood. That being said, the cost might be better in Ghana as you said. Darreg (talk) 23:33, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yea, those names are big now, but they were not as big at the time Arase used them. Infact, no one knew them until films like The Game, Forbidden Fruit etc came about - they weren't big names at the time these movies were made. And presently, directors shooting in Ghana have now settled for another generation of less expensive actors like Martha Ankomah, Kafui Danku and Co. I don't know if you've noticed this, but Majid et al, now either feature in films shot in Nigeria (to get the kinda pay they deserve), or produce their own films in Ghana/feature in films produced by their colleague actors in Ghana. BTW, I think the production cost in Ghana is also rising.....since the place has experienced influx of film productions. --Jamie Tubers (talk) 23:47, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You seem to want to delete Ayo Sogunros entry for no real reason. I found his wiki when researching for the Ake Arts and Book Festival Ake Festival on which he is a guest with Wole Soyinka, Eghosa Imasuen, Jude Dibia and other Nigerian writers who all have wiki pages. Article Discussion

Hi, I believe you mean well in your suggestion of my created page, i am new on wikipedia, however,i will be happy to discuss improving the page with you as opposed to your recommendation for deletion. Thanks Redotec (talk) 13:48, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The problem is not with the article, but the subject of the article. For a subject to be notable enough to warrant a wikipedia page, it must have been covered in several reliable independent publications, such as Newspapers, journals, books, etc or even television programmes. This doesn't mean writing for publication houses or a mere mention in publications, but presence of in-depth articles dedicated to the subject (and independent of the subject in everyway!). The subject "Ayo Sogunro" doesn't pass this criterion, and will eventually be deleted.....unless, there's a proof of notability. All the reasons given so far still haven't proven the subject's notability.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:17, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

October 1

I have been unable to visit the cinemas since October 1 was released due to daily scheduling conflits. I hope to buy the DVD (then watch at my convenience) or watch it online (since I am always online) if I can't make it while it's still showing in the theaters. However, I recommended it to a friend (who is generally always skeptical on films) after reading the wiki article, with so much hope that she will be totally blown away considering the amount of time and resources spent in the production of the film. The feedback I got from her was slightly above average but nothing out of the ordinary. According to her, Kunle was unsure about the direction he wanted the story-line of the film to follow. She also said it would have been better if he concentrated on one of Independence, serial killing, homosexuality, british imperialism, boko haram or even human right abuse. She has a track record of being off-point, so I won't be surprised if her opinion is totally off the mark when I eventually watch it.Darreg (talk) 23:42, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update:As surprising as it may sound, I just left the cinemas some few minutes ago after watching the film. I was really blown away by the production and the adherence to little detail in the film. It was no mistake that the cinema hall was 90% full even though it has been released since October 1st (free pop-corn today cud also be an additional reason). I really need to update my Best film list cuz I have never seen a better capture of the 60s in a Nigerian film. The thing about my friend is that whenever something is the best, she will say it is better; when its better, she will say its good; and when its good, she will say its average. So for her to say it was slightly above average, then I will intepret that as "excellent" by normal standards. I am pretty certain the film will rule AMAA 2015. I am rooting for Prince Ropo (I did not get his real name), Sadiq Daba and that funny yoruba officer with tribal marks to be nominated for awards. I am not exaggerating at all but it was incredibly awesome. This is definitely my best for 2014 and I do not regret the 1hr 53minutes spent in the cinema hall. Darreg (talk) 21:50, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will write the synopsis tonight but it will not be as detailed as Figurine, Confusion or Phone Swap bcos it will be based on what I can remember.Darreg (talk) 23:04, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
