Darragh Ennis is an Irish scientist, quizzer, and television personality. He is known as a postdoctoral researcher of Oxford University and as one of the "chasers" on the ITV game show The Chase.

Early life and Career

Early life & Science career

Ennis grew up in Dublin, Ireland and studied at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Since 2013, he has been at the University of Oxford and is a postdoctoral researcher, specialising in neurobiology, researching the brains of insects.[3][4][5]

Television

In 2017, Ennis joined The Chase as a contestant, where he obtained £9000 in the ‘cash builder’ round. Later on in the game his teammates took minus offers from ”chaser” of the episode, Paul Sinha, resulting in Ennis’ total winnings to be far lower than what he had scored in the first round.[6] This caused outrage from viewers, and a GoFundMe campaign was set up to compensate for Ennis’ losses.[7] Ennis requested for all money to be donated to charity.[7]

In April 2020, Ennis was announced as the sixth “chaser” on The Chase, alongside Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan.[8][9] His Chaser-debut episode was aired on 19th November 2020, that he won by catching a 16 steps-lead from two contestants with £10,000.[2] His debut brought in 4.9 million viewers, making it the most watched episode of The Chase ever.[10] Thus, later that record was broked again.

Personal Life

Ennis is married to his 'university sweetheart', and they live together in Oxford with 2 children. Ennis supports Liverpool FC.[11][12] Ennis can speak German and Irish.[13]
