1876 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad reaches Pueblo, Colorado.
1892 – Japan's Mito Railway is consolidated into the Japanese National Railways.
1893 – The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad (the New Haven Railroad) leases the Old Colony Railroad.

1920 – Control of American railroads is returned to private ownership and administration with the disbandment of the USRA.
1956 – The Gulf Coast Lines system of railways in the United States is merged into Missouri Pacific Railroad.
1967 – The Hankyu Senri Line, connecting Tenjimbashisuji Rokuchōme to Kita-Senri in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, opens.
1974 – The former Japanese Government Railways Uwajima Line is extended from Ekawasaki to Wakai and the line is renamed as the Yodo Line.
1989 – The Abbeville-Grimes Railway (a predecessor of the Bay Line Railroad) begins operations between its namesake cities in Alabama.
