Background
Jemima Wyman was born in the year 1997 (46 years old) in Sydney, Australia. She resided there in her early years in a rural area where there were no art contemporary art museums. She became a contemporary artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Wyman completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (in Visual Arts) with Honors at the Queensland University of Technology. In 2007, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from The California Institute of Arts in Los Angeles.
Career
Jemima Wyman is a contemporary artist whose work spans over all forms of art. She has created art through installation, video, performance, photography and painting. Throughout her career Wyman has created pieces that encapsulate political awareness and forms of protest. Her first solo work was a video in 2008 titled Combat Drag. In this piece she portrays how camouflage is a form of performative protest and how it can be used by marginalized groups. Her first exhibition was collaborative, titled Feminism Never Happened occuring in 2010 at the Institute of Modern Art. Featuring several artists, Wyman was one among many who displayed pieces perceiving the world as if feminism did not exist in the world and how different it would look today than it does. Her most recent work is titled World Cloud (2023), Wyman continues displaying forms of protests through camouflage, she creates pieces capturing modern day issues such as Black Lives Matter.
