Position of "Edit instructions" link is broken in Vector 2022
View Portal:Current events in the skin:
In Vector 2022, it seems that id="coordinates"
isn't enough to put the edit instructions link:
<span id="coordinates" class="noprint">[[Portal:Current events/Edit instructions|Edit instructions]]</span>
to the top right corner – it is shown near the top at the left, as any wikitext paragraph. This wikitext used to work in Vector legacy (2010) because of a CSS rule for selector body.skin-vector-legacy #coordinates
.
Would replacing <span id="coordinates">...</span>
with an indicator, like what Module:Coordinates does, be possible? —andrybak (talk) 01:26, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Please replace line

with:
{{#tag:indicator|<span id="coordinates" class="noprint">[[Portal:Current events/Edit instructions|Edit instructions]]</span>|name=instructions}}
to fix the problem described above in #Position of "Edit instructions" link is broken in Vector 2022. Tested at Special:Permalink/1234436687. See also Special:Permalink/1234436973 for testing in different skins. —andrybak (talk) 10:24, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
Incidents involving busses
Are bus accidents really global news? Is it because the death toll almost always >20? Seems like there's a crash about every week or more. Not sure if that should be an "ongoing issue" or not. ZCoupon (talk) 00:37, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- It's the WP:MINIMUMDEATHS debate all over again. I personally don't believe a bus plunge story is necessarily notable enough to be in "Current events", but higher casualty events very frequently get posted on ITN (where the bar for notability is a lot higher), so it isn't too surprising to see this kind of accidents here. The other issue is that we can't really guess whether it will fit WP:NSUSTAINED or not in advance, and a bus accident might have a lasting effect on the country's driving safety laws, or be forgotten the next week. - Yes, it's just because of the death toll, just like fires, flooding, landslides, mass shootings and other routine news. Andrew🐉(talk) 10:40, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Biden withdrawal
Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy.[1] --Uncle Ed (talk) 18:04, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- This had already been where it belongs, on Portal:Current events/2024 July 21, for nearly ten minutes before this comment (for all that it was blanked without rationale, twice). —Cryptic 19:11, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
This is not 'world news', however, I think it merits a spot on CE or ITN... Nex 🌐 📰 leave a message 18:55, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for clueing me in; I guess living in NYC makes me think America is the center of the world. --Uncle Ed (talk) 19:08, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
In the current events page, it shows that the former president of Vietnam has died and says that he is pictured, when it's actually Joe Biden who's pictured. Definitely incorrect. I'm not sure how to fix this, though, so could somebody please? Thank you! 50.46.175.242 (talk) 03:46, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- It's already been fixed. Never mind. Thanks! 50.46.175.242 (talk) 03:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Olympics are currently ongoing
Don't we usually list major sporting events like this? Desfuria (talk) 01:17, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- Desfuria, we do indeed! Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#Olympic Opening Ceremony. —andrybak (talk) 12:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Dark mode
It seems the current events page does not follow the dark mode setting as the main page...can it be set to inherit the property? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.132.76.2 (talk) 13:58, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
