Dar book for Indef Block
Hi Sam Korn,
This is, once again, about the subject of this checkuser.
I don't think this even merits another checkuser because the situation is quite plain. Dar book has been using 222.127.223.70 as a sock, and the latter's talk page is replete with warnings of all types (all seemingly unheeded). It seems that he forgot to log in and accidentally used it instead of his Dar book account to edit the Eli Soriano article.
This is the line that gave him away:
why would a person buy a website just to lie?. (edit summary)
why would a person buy a website just to lie?. (please scroll down to red letters)
Another slip, a Marikina Science High School edit also gave him away. Dar book is the creator of that article.
This user is becoming a big nuisance.
Many thanks,

- Confirmed that this logged-out editing is him. I wouldn't be too certain that all the messages on the page are intended for him, though, as there are a lot of users on the address. Sam Korn (smoddy) 16:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikimedia UK v2.0
Hello! Thanks for showing an interest in Wikimedia UK v2.0. Formation of the company is currently underway under the official name "Wiki UK Limited", and we are hoping to start accepting membership in the near future. We have been drawing up a set of membership guidelines, determining what membership levels we'll have (we plan on starting off with just standard Membership, formerly known as Guarantor Membership, with supporting membership / friends scheme coming later), who can apply for membership (everyone), what information we'll collect on the application form, why applications may be rejected, and data retention. Your input on all of this would be appreciated. We're especially after the community's thoughts on what the membership fee should be. Please leave a message on the talk page with your thoughts.
Also, we're currently setting up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed about the to-be-Chapter's progress. If you would like to receive this newsletter, please put your username down on this page.
Thanks again. Mike Peel (talk) 19:56, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (Membership Secretary, Wikimedia UK [Proposed])
Recorded debates and discussions
Candidates and the community,
Wikivoices (formally NotTheWikipediaWeekly) would be interested in making several podcasts with candidates running in the 2008 English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee election. Given the high number of candidates likely to be signing up during the nomination stage (likely to be around 45) it will be a very busy 2 weeks. These shows typically last about one and a half hours to record, taking into account setup time, and are recorded using the free, downloadable programme, Skype. The programme can be used on Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating systems and is also available on some mobile platforms. If any candidates have problems with installing or running the program please contact either myself at my talk page or by email
There will be 2 formats being run over the next 2 weeks. The first will be general discussion with a small number candidates at a time with several experienced hosts from Wikivoices. Each candidate will be given 2-3 minutes to introduce themselves then the main body of the cast will begin. The topics discussed will vary in each recording to ensure fairness however the atmosphere will be generally free flowing. These will be running throughout the two weeks starting tomorrow. Specific signup times can be found here at our meta page.
The second format will be based on a similar style to election debates. Questions will be suggested here by the community. A selection of these will then be put to a panel of larger panel candidates with short and concise 1-2 minute responses. Other than an introduction and hello from each candidate, there will be no opportunity for a lengthier introductions. Specific signup times can be found here at our meta page.
It is recommended that candidates attend both formats of casts and we will try to be as flexible as possible. We are looking for the greatest participation but also for shows with enough members to keep it interesting but not too many that it causes bandwidth and general running issues. I look forward to working with all candidates in the coming weeks.

Question #4
(xposting in case you aren't watching my page)
Hi. With respect to your questions, do you think you could clarify what question 4 means? Are you discussing the role of Jimmy in deciding the results? That seems to me the only way to read it, but it's quite possible I'm reading you incorrectly. Thanks, Sam Korn (smoddy) 00:50, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, correct--the notion of "no Jimmy" in the elections, so that it's handled entirely as other WMF wikis do it. That is, it could be a straight vote--5 open slots, the top 5 get in--with us deciding what the is. Percentage? Raw support? Inbetween? Etc., but where the process of selection/approval of who is trusted to be an Arb laying entirely with "us". rootology (C)(T) 01:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Wiki UK Ltd Membership applications now invited!
Hello,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Wiki UK Limited is now inviting membership applications! You can download the application form in PDF format from meta:Image:Wiki_UK_Ltd_membership_application_form.pdf
Information is given on the form about membership fees (£12/year standard, £6 for concessions); these need to be paid by cheque initially, although we hope to accept other forms of payment in the future. Applications should be submitted to me at the address given on the form. If you have any queries about the application process, please let me know.
We will formally start accepting members once we have a bank account, as we cannot process membership fees until that time. We will be submitting our application for a bank account in the very near future, and we hope to have this set up by the end of December at the latest.
Thank you for your support so far; I look forward to receiving your membership application.

ArbCom questions
Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article this week, and your response is requested.
- What positions do you hold (adminship, mediation, etc.), on this or other wikis?
- Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
- Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
- How do you feel the Arbitration Committee has handled cases and other situations over the last year? Can you provide an examples of situations where you feel the Committee handled a situation exceptionally well, and why? Any you feel they handled poorly, and why?
- What is your opinion on confidentiality? If evidence is submitted privately to the Committee, would you share it with other parties in the case? Would you make a decision based on confidential information without making it public?
- Why do you think users should vote for you?
Please respond on my talk page. We'll probably go to press on Tuesday, but late responses will be added as they're submitted. Thanks, Ral315 (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Culture of secrecy
I believe, then, that we're concerned with quite different aspects of the "culture of secrecy". I believe there is an incredibly vast middle ground between "respecting confidences" and the sort of obfuscation that has become the daily fare in ArbCom operations. For those of us who 1) care about the project and 2) volunteer hours to it, this stonewalling can be infuriating. We end up with completely incoherent communication from ArbCom on cases like SlimVirgin-Lar, and for no good reason. When the details emerged, it was apparent that it would have been trivially easy for Arbitrators to have said what happened without breaching any confidences or violating anyone's privacy. Too often they simply make no effort, and ludicrously claim confidences or privacy concerns. Another example, off the top of my head, is the block of User:Melsaran. Just tell the community. "He was creating sockpuppets to harass and attempt to out another user. This user has been the victim of such harassment in the past. Although we cannot determine who exactly he is a sockpuppet of, the behavior is clear and Arbitrator A, Arbitrator B, Arbitrator C, Arbitrator D and Arbitrator E have evaluated the evidence and all agree." Instead we got several weeks of drama created by ArbCom. I know it is not easy. I am sure it takes a lot of careful thought. But the questions I highlighted in my oppose were opportunities to demonstrate the balancing act of transparency that we desperately need from the Wikipedians who govern us. Being unable to mention a single final decision with which you disagree, for example, because of your need to "respect confidences" is not what I mean by transparency. On the contrary, it's the very behavior that I find exasperating and demoralizing. --JayHenry (talk) 23:44, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I do agree it is possible to respect confidences and believe the confidences unnecessary. But in instances where it's necessary to keep confidences (and it will always be necessary to keep at least some), there is still a vast middle ground for better communication. Perhaps I'm naive, but I believe it would have been quite possible for you to publicly identify a final decision with which you disagree. More generally, it would be very possible for the ArbCom to respect confidences in every case it already does so, but to dramatically increase their transparency. I'm not calling for the ArbCom to keep less confidences. I'm calling for them to learn how to respect confidentiality, and still communicate. --JayHenry (talk) 00:09, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Sam, per an off-wiki conversation that myself and User:j.delanoy had with the above two users, they have demonstrated that they are two separate users (they are indeed husband and wife - I suppose the old unblock reason "It's my wife!" had to be true sometime), and I have unblocked them with conditions that you can see on User_talk:Cambios. Sambot - error logs
Hi, Is it possible for you to add to Sambot's coding, so that the list of players without valid boxes is either updated or transcluded onto the WP page for requested infoboxes - it probably gets a bit more traffic and is more likely to be checked and worked on. I did transclude User:Sambot/Issues but then realised that it was really old info!
Thanks,
—MDCollins 00:19, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Second opinion
Hey!
It's been a while since I bothered you with this but I'm pretty sure I have a Brexx sockpuppet in Anywhere But Home (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki). I filed an RfCU at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Girl Get it a couple of weeks ago but Avi found the results inconclusive. Would you mind taking a second look at it? By the contribs, I'm all but convinced it's Brexx and the recent block for edit warring looks all too familiar.
Thanks! SWik78 (talk • contribs) 01:08, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Technically, it's certainly possible. I agree with Avi that there is nothing that links this conclusively to Brexx technically. From a limited familiarity with Brexx, I can see similarities that would cause suspicion. I am, however, not personally confident enough at this stage to block myself. Perhaps you could go to WP:SSP and file a brief case there? Sam Korn (smoddy) 10:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- I think I might have to do that. I certainly do appreciate your second opinion and your fast reply.

Sambot error
On the latest round of updating infoboxes I notice Dimitri Mascarenhas and Luke Wright have had their International Twenty20 stats replaced by Twenty20 ones, a possible error to fix? --Jpeeling (talk) 11:28, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up. I think this is a consequence of their being listed as IT20 rather than T20I, which is what Sambot is looking for. I have programmed it to have IT20 as a synonym. Many thanks, Sam Korn (smoddy) 15:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
...That's probably my fault for thinking that IT20 was more intuitive than T20I (which can look like T201)! Incidentally the error log didn't actually transclude probably (see above) - it listed "Array*" followed by the last in the list.—MDCollins 23:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Sambot for 2 nationalities
Hi,
I was just wondering whether Sambot can cope with the dual-country problem. As far as I know, Gavin Hamilton (cricketer) is the only current player that it may effect - I've just updated his infobox (country=England, country2=Scotland). The problem will be whether the bot is programmed to work out the lasttestfor/lastodifor field. It's probably clearer if you could have a look, although he isn't likely to play in the near future.
—MDCollins 23:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- I have to say I'm not exactly sure what Sambot will do here... I think it might work perfectly, but I'm not absolutely sure -- it's not a functionality I had considered (I was only thinking of Test teams at the time, and Kepler Wessels is long retired...). Sambot takes its idea of the player's nationality from User:Sambot/players, not the infobox, so it should be OK from that perspective. The real question is what it's going to do with the debut matches when he played for England... We will see on Saturday -- if it breaks, Sambot will edit then. Sam Korn (smoddy) 23:47, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
It broke!. I've reverted the changes, probably best to leave them out and do it by hand maybe. Could Sambot recognise when "country2" is set and just skip it and put a note in the log flagging up the error? Or just unlink him from the player list but leave him there to show he is current?—MDCollins 12:13, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Probably best to remove him from the list for now. The functionality isn't impossible -- I'll have a look at it soon. The trouble is that I built it to ignore matches when players had played for the World XI, so it's using that procedure. I could take that procedure out, I guess, on the grounds that World XI matches seem less than imminent... Sam Korn (smoddy) 13:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Cool - I've delinked him and put a note in case anyone adds him back again. I assume what I've done will mean Sambot ignores it. Thanks.—MDCollins 22:06, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, exactly so. Sambot doesn't go player-hunting ;-). Sam Korn (smoddy) 22:56, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Hi Sam. I was wondering if you could check this case again. As Banigul just e-mailed me telling me that he is not "NisarKind". --Kanonkas : Talk 14:28, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- The evidence is not by any means conclusive. I suggest that any block be assessed upon behavioural evidence as much as CU evidence. The CU evidence is fairly weak as there have been no recent "confirmed" socks. Sam Korn (smoddy) 14:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Please look at this what user/junglebrother has to say about all this. I don't think Banigul and Nisarkand are same people. Nisarkand told me he is 100% positive that Banigul is someone else. Also, please tell user:kingturtle and user:tajik not to revert the checkuser until investigation is completed, tajik is creating socks and getting away with it, he is also using annon IPs that start with 82, 84 and 88 which are all located in the same exact location and edit-warring with same exact POVs as user/tajik. I.e. labelling everyone as ethnic tajik when they are not, harshly degrading other ethnic groups, always claiming that Afghanistan was created in late 1800s when that is untrue. Look, tajik claims to be Afghan but he is critizing everything about Afghanistan and its people with the most negative view you can image, why are such people allowed to edit Wikipedia?--Tytooring (talk) 03:57, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Rlevse indicates that SeventeenForever17 is the same as Unwrittendrew700, but that is an independent case from Lzki. Rlevse confirmed his results. Are you in actual disagreement, or is it just an error in the summary?—Kww(talk) 13:21, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- I don't recall the results in detail. As I am no longer an enwiki CU (I am now an ombudsman I can't have another look. I'm sure Rlevse is correct. Sam Korn (smoddy) 13:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Infobox tool
Hi,
Posting here to save cluttering WT:CRIC.
A few more minor points...
- the 'batting ave, top score, bowling ave, best bowling' don't appear when it is producing the box text
- The link to All-rounder (cricket) needs changing to All-rounder
- I prefer it to say "Right-hand batsman" rather than "Right-hand", but that may be just personal preference!
- Could the "role" option also have an "other" box, so we can also type Umpire/captain/match referee etc?
- Could "–" be left, rather than it automating to – ? (so people remember to use it)
- Could the "deliveries" field be automatically filled in as "balls" - I think 99% of records will use that...
- ODI needs correcting to ODI
- Something went wrong with the Test debut/ODI debut section - I "think" that it is reading the same field twice (the Test information is coming from the ODI boxes?)...
- Can you include a 'back' button?!! I pressed continue twice and couldn't go back again!
Hope that all makes sense, that's all for now!!
Thanks again, —MDCollins 20:04, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- All done, apart from the last one. It will preserve what you've written until you hit "new infobox", so you can just start again from the beginning. Sam Korn (smoddy) 22:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Great! One problem, the create infobox/finish and new infobox buttons have gone!!—MDCollins 23:22, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, I don't see that problem... Is it still there? The server it's running on is in its "scheduled instability" time, so it could be that... Sam Korn (smoddy) 23:34, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I wondered if it was me being stupid. When I go to the site now, it gives me page 1 (general info), including what I typed before, I can then 'continue' through columns 1-4; from column 4 I can continue (back to the start!) and that's about it. It might be a cache thing (for either of us), but I can't think what else to do!—MDCollins 01:05, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- There is now a "new infobox" button on the front page -- try pressing that and starting again. Sam Korn (smoddy) 14:07, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Great - it's all good (apart from the FC batting top score...!! Sorry :-p —MDCollins 19:53, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops, typo! Fixed. I'll work on a domestic one shortly. Sam Korn (smoddy) 20:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Infobox template - yet again.
Hi,
How are you regarding template coding? I just had a thought that we could code the cricketer infobox so that if "deliveries1", "deliveries2", "deliveries3" and "deliveries4" were all left blank, the infobox could omit the fields balls-->best bowling. If noticed a few 'batsmen' only, who just have 6 rows of ndashes, which is just wasting space. I'm ok with "if" commands, but I'm not sure about "if p and q and r and s = "blank", then...".
Any ideas?
Also is the "deliveries = balls" necessary anymore? Isn't CA and CI completely converted to balls and not overs now?
Regards, —MDCollins 14:07, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have been looking at this -- so far without what you might call "resounding success". The easiest solution might be a "hidedeliveries= true" field. I don't think there are actually many occasions where it happens! I have done a mock-up at User:Sam Korn/infobox cricketer biography (see a test at User:Sam Korn/infobox cricketer biography test). The changes I've made are this diff
- And yes, I think we could happily remove the deliveries=balls field.
- If these changes seem like a good idea, I could get Sambot to make the appropriate changes.
- Sam Korn (smoddy) 15:32, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
That's quite a good workaround which works nicely. Kamran Akmal [2] was the example that gave me the idea. Roll with it!—MDCollins (talk) 15:43, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I've done Kamran Akmal -- it looks a lot better. Especially as there was, for some inexplicable reason, a second infobox to allow for Twenty20 stats to be included as well... Bizarre. I'll get on with generating a list of players with no deliveries. Sam Korn (smoddy) 16:44, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Excellent - there are a few Pakistani's with a strange use of double infoboxes, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/requested infoboxes.—MDCollins (talk) 17:03, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Cheers for the heads up!
Yeah, as above – I wasn't aware of any injunctions about the delinking of dates, and just thought that it was still being treated as the common way to go on articles nowadays. But yeah, many apologies. Regards, Cs-wolves(talk) 14:59, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Sambot seems to not like "NB Extra fields available from Template:Infobox cricketer biography" (Morne Morkel)- I'm not sure why it's been added in the first place (messages like that aren't normally added to infoboxes...
Is the simplest solution for Sambot to automatically delete the line? Can it do that or does it skip due to "too many boxes" (like those stupid Pakistani ones before it gets to do any editing?

Robert Fisk
I take exception to your characterisation of my edit of the Robert Fisk article. You say that I "inserted text that gives a highly misleading impression of a living person", yet you in no way explain what impression this is or why you believe it is misleading. The arguments against the inclusion of this material on the Mark Steyn article do not apply here; looking at the Fisk talk page I see none have even been raised. This concerns a topic about which Fisk has spoken and written of often. I would advise you not to rush to judgment in future, as you seem to have done in this instance. Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 15:31, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
I repeat: "you in no way explain what impression this is or why you believe it is misleading". The arguments are not the same, nor could they be, for the article is regularly referenced by Fisk to illustrate how vehemently he is opposed. Your remark about Fisk's position being "ironic" mean you cannot reasonably pretend neutrality on this issue. Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 14:05, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
On Fisk's article, I wrote: "Fisk has taken exception to and often made reference to comments made by fellow journalist Mark Steyn on his account of the incident, when Steyn wrote : "You'd have to have a heart of stone not to weep with laughter."" Despite my being careful to distinguish Steyn's attitude to the attack (of which I am ignorant) from his comments on Fisk's attitude to the attack, you contend this gives a negative impression of Steyn (I presume you mean undeservedly negative). Do you believe more care is needed? Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 14:25, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Firstly, clarification could have been easily provided if sought (it wasn't). Secondly, I haven't come across anyone who disputes that Fisk objects to the comments, and I have provided several sources on the noticeboard which shows he does. Thirdly, I have no objection to lengthening the quote. I asked you did you believe more care was needed, not why. Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 14:45, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey - any reason why Steven Davies keeps getting removed from the Sambot players list? Does sambot not recognise T20I matches?—MDCollins (talk) 12:09, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- Sambot recognises T20I matches, but didn't recognise the .co.uk domain name. (It needed this to determine the URL of, e.g., http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/45/45352/International_Twenty20_Matches.html.) Now fixed to convert .co.uk to .com (the easiest solution). Sam Korn (smoddy) 10:48, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Deleting evidence
In the context created by the following, I have no objection to deleting the evidence offered by Bueller 007, which -- for whatever reason -- seems to be what he/she wants.
The following shows that Bueller 007 reconsidered what was initially added to the Evidence page, deciding instead to add a comment on the Workshop page. Then, Teeninvestor reverted that change. When Bueller 007 tried to correct what Teeninvestor had done, it seems to have caught the attention of Coldmachine.

In addition to the diffs noted above, Bueller 007 amplifies his/her disinterest in participating further in this ArbCom case -- see short discussion threads here and here.

Links to motions
Hi Sam. I'm not sure that many people want it (might just be me), but do you have a link to the state of the motions at the time they were closed in the Aitias case? I sometimes like to look at the voting and comments later. Kind of like the equivalent of the PD page, but for motions. What's on the page at the moment is only a summary of the final vote. Am also posting something to the evidence talk page - if you or Tip could follow up with a notification (unless I've done it myself) or ask other parties giving evidence to be more explicit, that would be good. Submarines are boats, not ships
Was any discussion made of whether submarine articles should be placed in the ship launch categories such as was done here? --Pascal666 08:09, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- *Sigh* Firstly, I am not an expert in the matter -- I was asked to make these edits at Wikipedia:Bot requests. However, I did happen to know of this distinction (the benefits of being at a school with a CCF section!) but was given the impression by ship and boat that this was an RN-specific nomenclature. Furthermore, it was not an unreasonable assumption to make, I think, to suggest that a page transcluding
infobox ship
should in fact be a ship ;-) If you could discuss this with Belhalla or at this discussion on WP:SHIPS, I can implement whatever you decide is the best route. Sam Korn (smoddy) 10:30, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Sam Korn is right; he was merely implementing the bot request. Consensus in the past has held that while submariners tend to refer to their vessels as "boats", they are still classed as "ships" by most reference materials. The categorization scheme maintained by WikiProject Ships reflects this and classes submarines as ships. As an example, you will notice that SM UC-106 (the article you inquired about above) is a member of Category:Type UC III U-boats, which is a member of Category:Submarines of Germany, which is a member of Category:Naval ships of Germany, and so on up to Category:Ships. The boats vs. ships distinction has been discussed at WikiProject Ships in the past, which has resulted in the current, stable categorization scheme. If you would like to revisit the issue, we will welcome your participation and your thoughts at the discussion page for the WikiProject. — Bellhalla (talk) 12:24, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I am not interested in revisiting the issue, I just wanted to make sure that it had in fact been discussed before. --Pascal666 21:00, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Sambot 11
Hello again. Yeah, this is an issue that's been around a while. Even when humans add the puic notice, they don't know what to do in these cases; most do just what Sambot does. I suppose you could force these to thumbnail, or add a small text caption below the image... but that will cause formatting ugliness in some cases that human editors will certainly be unhappy about, especially if the image is kept. I'd say the bot is doing the right thing.
In other news... You may have seen this coming, but I was wondering if Sambot 11 could also add/remove ifdc tags to the captions of images currently discussed at WP:FFD? Or deletable image-caption for speedy-deletables listed in the pages at Template:DailyDeletionCategories? It seems like most of the code would be the same for these tasks. – Quadell (talk) 14:29, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
puic
Hi
I never considered this before, but adding the puic caption to any image that doesn't have "frame" or "thumb" set is of course a bit pointless, since it will only be "shown" in the alt attribute. If you have enough^W too much time you can try to make your bot add it to the respective caption parameter of the surrounding infobox (since that's the most usual case), but otherwise I'd suggest to not add the tag at all in those cases. What do you think?
Amalthea 13:57, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Amalthea. As you can see from the above discussion with Quadell, I had already noticed this. I think the best solution probably is, as you say, not to tag images that don't use either

Somewhat related to this, it seems from this edit that Sambot adds the puic tag even if one is already present nearby. Perhaps its should check if a puic template for the file is already present anywhere on the page? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 13:50, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Greetings. This edit is problematic. No idea if it's true, but it seems to attempt to "out" someone who wants their identity secret. Is this a good candidate for oversight? – Quadell (talk) 19:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Sambot and Speedy Deletion
Sambot keeps tagging a picture I uploaded ith the speedy deletion tag, on the article Baldwin High School (Milledgeville, Georgia). The pic is in the Ongoing Renovation section at the bottom of the page. The pic is of construction adding a performing Arts Center to the school, and I got the pic from the official PAC website. I referenced it as best I could. Do you think you could get Sambot to stop tagging it? I would greatly appreciate it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mellophonius (talk • contribs) 19:35, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- You will notice that File:Bhspac.jpg is still tagged as being eligible for speedy deletion. It is a deliberate decision that the bot repeatedly tags images if the problem that has made them eligible for speedy deletion has not been resolved. For my part, I think it is very unlikely that that image satisfies our non-free content criteria. I personally don't believe it is valuable enough to the article to meet those criteria. Sam Korn (smoddy) 19:46, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Your bot just targeted my photo!
I gave all the proper format and I am waiting for an admin to accept it, here is the photo that your bot tagged MySummerJob (talk) 19:53, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

- This image is currently a candidate for speedy deletion. You don't need to get an admin to "accept" the image, but you do need to follow the instructions that you'll find on the image information page to ensure that the proper information is given. Sam Korn (smoddy) 20:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, so I did what it said and I sent a message to an admin. Now what do I do? MySummerJob (talk) 20:33, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Sambot and stub articles
While working on the WikiProject Food and drink project, Sambot tagged talk:Ponderosa lemon as a stub article. If you disagree, one of thing things it says to change is "removing the stub template from the article." But I can find no such template! The article is at least a Start class article, what triggered this rating? -Dirus (talk) 18:22, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- It took it from the
WikiProject Plants
rating below. I've retagged it as start-class. Sam Korn (smoddy) 18:25, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- I hadn't considered that, but I figured it was something I was overlooking. I thought maybe it was the expand template and was going to suggest that didn't make it a stub. Thanks for changing it, I was going to do it myself after I made sure there wasn't something else I had to change first. -Dirus (talk) 18:36, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
I think the cause of the confusion is that the auto=yes parameter of the Wikiproject template causes text to display that clearly says the autotagging was due to the presence of a stub template. If there are other cases that result in autotagging, as appears to be the case, that message should be modified accordingly. (Not that I have any clue where to do so.) Powers T 13:35, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- To tell the truth, I had never noticed that the template specified that. I'll think about what to do with the tag before I do another run. Sam Korn (smoddy) 14:03, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Tenmei
(This is the same copy to another ArbCom clerk for Tang Dynasty case, Mailer diablo) I'm seriously asking you to stop Tenmei continuing disruptive behaviors until the ArbCom case is closed. It is extremely frustrating that ArbCom clerks and Arbitrators just let Tenmei harass me. Tenmei has called me "toxic long-tern edit warrior" more than 10 times during the ArbCom case and attacked me with vicious verbal abuses. I can't imagine this kind of abuses have been condoned for two months that if Tenmei were in other ArbCom cases like Macedonian or Obama case, he would have been already blocked for such behaviors. Since you're a ArbCom clerk, I'm asking you to warn him. Thanks.--Caspian blue 17:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Sam, thanks for replying. The pic was taken by a friend of the subject on whose namepage the pic has been used. It does not belong to any newspapers, website or any other media. It comes from the personal collection of the subject in question. As such there is no copyright associated with the photograph. Pls advice how do I go about it? Thanks. Bot request
Hi Sam, I wanted to know if you could help out with a bot. I saw that you did the work on a similar bot request for the WikiProject College Football, so I thought I'd ask you directly instead of formally put a request in at WP:BOTREQ. If this is not the proper channel to ask this, I apologize.
Anyway, if you're willing to help, here's what we'd like done: To have a bot go through every article in the Category:College football and all categories nested therein, and tag any articles' talk pages with the project banner (Template:WikiProject College Football) that don't already have it. Ideally, this would also incorporate all the functionality from the aforementioned request, which would auto-assess if another project banner with an assessment exists.
Thanks for your time. I've added your talk page to my watchlist, so you can respond here to let me know what you decide. 05:02, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can do that. I've done similar tasks before (see User:Sambot for a list of the tasks I have approval for). I have another request pending, though, so you might have to wait until the middle of next week for me to get the coding done. Sam Korn (smoddy) 09:46, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Great, glad to hear it. Looking through the BRFA list, it looks like I'm talking about essentially the same thing as task #4. Thanks again, I appreciate your help. Strikehold (talk) 09:58, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- One more thing: before you have the bot run, can you have it produce a list of all the nested categories in Category:College football and have me verify what is to be tagged? I know there are a few nested categories that should be excluded (Category:NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision conferences, Category: NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision conferences, Category:American football teams in Mexico, and Category:British Collegiate American Football League teams), and I'd like to make sure there aren't any other inappropriate cats that get included. Thanks. Strikehold (talk) 08:43, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Self portrait pic
you recently posted an intention to delete a self pic i posted on MY user page. that pic was a duplicate of another one i had posted with the exception that i had blanked out my nametag for security reasons. after posting the original pic i realized that the nametag was readable. as a personal security precaution i edited the original pic and posted the edited one in it's place in order to remove my name from the pic. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE IT as i do not feel comfortable allowing my name to be viewable on an open website. i have a question tho. why is the content of my profile and my personal info and images being review and edited? why should anyone care what is put on a person's personal profile? thank you for your time. ImageTagBot
Hi. :) Your bot pulled a strange one here, and I'm not sure if there's somebody about the PUI listing that caused it. The PUI (Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2009 May 14) closed for delete, but OTRS release subsequently came through. Is there something wonky about the formatting there or is this a one-off thing? (I received a confused note through OTRS from the artist.) I'll watch here in case you have an opportunity to give a reply. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:44, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Re: JavaScript
Hi, I've not been on Wikipedia much and I only saw your comment about the secure server script now. Thanks for your suggestions/work. If I remember correctly, the other wikis didn't have HTTPS when I first wrote that, and although I updated my local Greasemonkey copy of the script to add Commons support a few months ago, I forgot to copy the changes to the one on Wikipedia. I didn't know the other wikis could be accessed like that either. I've now completely updated it to incorporate your additions (and fixed Wiktionary and Wikispecies, which didn't work). I think it handles everything now. • Anakin (talk) 21:10, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Sam Korn. Soxred93 (I can't get used to X!) suggested that I speak to you via IRC, but I haven't seen you, so I figured I'd leave you a message. I've started using the Pillar bot framework for MadmanBot (Soxred93 thinks I might be the only one except you and him ;)), and I've run into a couple bugs and feature enhancements that I think would benefit the project. I was going to file them as issues; he suggested that I ask you for commit access instead. So I am; if you don't know me well enough, that's fine -- I'd be fine with simply filing issues. Hi,
I have been trying to contribute to the entry for Jubilee Clips recently - not quite sure what inspired me but anyway.
I added a picture which was marked as a CSD because there was insufficient copyright information. I attempted to address that this morning and I thought I had but the bot seems to have found something about it objectionable and re-listed it as a CSD.
As this is the first time I have attempted to add an image to Wikipedia, it is perfectly possible that I have omitted something or done something wrong. Problem is that I think I have done it all correctly. Please could you enlighten me?
Many thanks,

Sysop has disclosed my personal information on diq.wikipedia
Hi Sam,
I am told to contact one of the m:Ombudsmen to solve a privacy issue. I found you in the list.
The issue is that one of the sysop of the diq.wikipedia, User:Mirzali, has disclosed my personal information on diq.wikipedia.
The information includes my real name, when and where I was born, where I went to school, where I currently live, and my occupation (and previously he posted pictures of me).
I feel very uncomfortable about disclosure of my personal information, and I deleted the entry many times before. I still have the sysop authority to delete it; however, sysop Mirzali keeps re-posting the same entry. I know involving in an edit war is an abuse of sysop responsibilities. That's why I don't want to remove the contend again by myself. I am hoping that the Wikipedia community will help me.
Disclosing my private information is a breach of Wikimedia m:Privacy policy and abuse of sysop privileges.
Thank you very much for your understanding. --Xoser (talk) 22:39, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hang on
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mhiji 02:01, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
